rev. ralph arthur weinrich

 

Rev. Ralph Arthur Weinrich, age 69, of Hiawassee, GA, passed away Monday, October 31, 2005 at 1037 Barbara Lane.

Mr. Weinrich was born Saturday, April 11, 1936 in Arlington Heights, IL to the late Arthur Edwin and Norma Mertie (Grooms) Weinrich, Jr.  He was baptized May 3, 1936 and confirmed May 28, 1950.  He was married to Jean Carol Pirk on June 18, 1960.

He attended elementary school at St. Peters Evangelical Lutheran School in Arlington Heights, IL.  The family moved to Boulder, CO in 1949, where he attended Casey Jr. High School and Boulder High School.  He graduated in 1954.  He attended the University of Colorado for two years, studying Electrical Engineering.  He then entered Concordia Theological Seminary and he spent his vicarage at Faith Lutheran Church and School in Whittier, CA and graduated from seminary in 1962.  He was ordained at his home church, Grace Lutheran in Boulder, CO on June 17, 1962.

He served four churches during his ministry, Good Shepherd in Gainesville, GA from 1962 to 1966, Christ in Cape Canaveral, FL from 1966 to 1983, Faith in Marietta, GA from 1983 to 1996 and then All Saints in Blairsville from 1996 until his retirement in 2000.

During his ministry he served in many capacities.  In the Florida-Georgia District of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod he served as Vice-President of the District Pastoral Conference, Lutheran Women’s Missionary League Counselor, Chairman of the Student Aid Committee and was on the District Youth Board.  On the circuit level he served several terms as Circuit Counselor both in Florida and Georgia and as a Vacancy Pastor in Merritt Island and Satellite Beach.  In 1981 he led a trip to the Holy Land.  He began the Hospital Chaplains Association in Gainesville, GA and served as a chaplain both in Marietta and at Union County Hospital.

He had served as president of the Ministerial organizations in Gainesville and Union Co. and had served on the Ministerial Boards in Cobb Co. and Towns Co.  Locally he had served on the board of TULIP.  He had been president of the local chapters of Aid Association for Lutherans and Thrivent.  He also participated in Laborers for Christ which is an organization of retired people who help to build churches and schools.

Survivors included: wife, Jean Weinrich of Hiawassee, GA; son and daughter-in-law, Kevin and Betsy Weinrich of Athens, GA; son and daughter-in-law, Philip and Robin Weinrich of Bogart, GA; grandchildren, Sarah, Lauren, Paul, Julia and Noah Weinrich, several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Memorial services will be held Thursday, November 10, 2005 at 11 a.m. from the All Saints Lutheran Church with Pastor Dave Wesche officiating. 

The family will receive friends at the church immediately after the service.

In lieu of flowers the family has requested memorial contributions be made to All Saints Lutheran Church for the Florida-Georgia District Student Aid fund, or to Regency Hospice.

mr. james harvey bass

 

Mr. James Harvey Bass, age 77, of Young Harris, Georgia, formerly of Albany, Georgia, passed away Thursday, October 27, 2005 at his residence.

Mr. Bass was born Wednesday, may 2, 1928 in Thomas County, Georgia, to the late Wesley Bass and Della Parker Bass.  He was a member of McConnell Memorial Baptist Church and the Lions Club of Hiawassee, Georgia, and was an U.S. Army Veteran.  He was preceded in death by his first wife, LaNaette Bass, who died in 1994

Survivors include: wife, Ruby Watson Bass of Young Harris, Georgia; daughter, Marsha Buchanan of Albany, Georgia; son, Gregory P. Watson of Suwanee, Georgia; daughter, Connie W. Turner of Jonesboro, Georgia; grandsons, Jeffrey Buchanan of Lee County, Georgia; and Jason Buchanan of Jacksonville, Florida; great-grandson, Jackson Buchanan of Lee County, Georgia; brother, Leroy Bass of Tifton, Georgia; sister, Lillie Pearl Whittington of Moultrie, Georgia.

Funeral services were held Monday, October 31, 2005 at 11 .m. from the Hall and Hall Funeral Home Chapel in Albany, with the Rev. J.B. Redd officiating.  Interment will follow in Floral Memory Gardens.

The family has suggested, that in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Georgia Mountains Hospice, Inc., 70 Caring Way, P.O. Box 580, Jasper, Georgia 30413 officiating.

David lee gribble

 

David Lee Gribble, 85, of Gastonia, died October 30, 2005, at Gaston memorial Hospital.  He was born March 8, 1920 in Towns County, GA, the son of the late Don D. and Ruth Sims Gribble.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, at Greene Funeral Service, South Chapel, Gastonia.  Interment was in Gaston memorial Park.  Officiating clergy were Rev. Jimmy Galloway, Dr. M.O. Owens Jr., Dwight Johnson.

Mr. Gribble was a loving husband, father and grandfather.  He was associated with local civic organizations.  He was a member of Parkwood Baptist Church, Gastonia, where he was a past Deacon, Treasurer and Usher.  He was a lifetime member of the National Softball Assoc. and a licensed umpire.

Survivors include his wife of sixty-seven years, Era Galloway Gribble; daughter and son-in-law, Martha and Jerry Deaver of Gastonia; grandsons, Morris Deaver of Myrtle Beach, SC, Jonathan Deaver of New York, NY; granddaughter and spouse, Allison and Matt Kiser; great granddaughter, Sydney Ann Kiser; brothers, Alton E. Gribble of Hiawassee, GA, Harold Gribble of Marietta, GA, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Mr. Gribble was preceded in death by a brother, Clarence Gribble.

mr. ray stroud

 

Mr. Ray Stroud, age 63, of Hiawassee, GA passed away on Tuesday, November 1, 2005 following an extended illness.  He was born in Clay County, NC the son of Claude and Lucille (Davenport) Stroud.  He is survived by his father, Claude Stroud; wife, Mrs. Rose Stroud, of Hiawassee, GA; daughter and son-in-law, Tonya and Scott Shields, of Mineral Bluff, GA; son, Mr. Charles Stroud, of Hiawassee, GA; brothers: Mr. Carl Stroud of FL; Mr. Raymond Stroud, of Hayesville, NC; Mr. David Stroud, of Gastonia, NC; Mr. Billy Stroud of Hayesville, NC: and Mr. Terry Stroud of Hayesville, NC; sisters: Mrs. Virginia Kirby of Gastonia, NC; Mrs. Ruth Beasley, of Hayesville, NC; Mrs. Kathleen Lands of Hayesville, NC; Mrs. Willa Jean Lyvers of Hayesville, NC; and Mrs. Wanda Bear of LaGrange, GA; six grandchildren: Erica, Logan and Cory Shields, Caleb Stroud and Wendy and Blake Carroll.

Funeral services were held on Friday, November 4, 2005 at 2 p.m. from the chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Bill Dyer and Rev. Lloyd Ledford officiating.  Pallbearers were Alvin Dyer, Chris Wiggins, Avery Beasley, Scotty Moss, Morris Sutton and David Garrett.  Music was provided by Brenda Teems and Oleana Dyer.  Interment was in Burch Cemetery.  Banister Funeral Home of Hiawassee in charge of arrangements
