arvel m. shook

Mr. Arvel M. Shook, age 102, of Young Harris, Ga., passed away November 7, 2003.  He was born to the late Elesha and Mary Lou (Watkins) Shook on October 19, 1901 in Union County, GA.  He was a 77 year member of Stephens Lodge #414 F&AM and a member and deacon of West Union Baptist Church.  

He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Mrs. Inez Shook of Young Harris, GA; two daughters, Mrs. Joyce Hamby of Blairsville, GA., and Mrs. Eva Ruth Southern of Young Harris, GA; four sons, Mr. Paul Shook of Young Harris, GA., Mr. Grover Shook of Young Harris, GA., Mr. Guy Wayne Shook of Blairsville, GA., and Mr. Terrell Shook of Woodstock, GA; two brothers, Mr. Andy Shook of Young Harris, GA., and Mr. Arthur Shook, also of Young Harris, GA; two sisters, Mrs. Leola Smith of Young Harris, GA., Mrs. Selma Chapman of Ackworth, GA; sixteen grandchildren; twenty one great-grandchildren and six step-grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services were held on Monday, November 10, 2003 from West Union Baptist Church at 2:00 pm with Rev. Jerry Young and Rev. Vernon Davenport officiating.  Music was provided by the Benny Shook Family and the Eagle Mountain Quartet.  Pallbearers were: Delin Brown, Danny Brown, Brant Shook, Johnny Southern and Tim Shook.  Interment was in West Union Baptist Church cemetery.

Bannister Funeral Home of Hiawassee was in charge of arrangements.
