medford leon green

 

Medford Leon Green, age 70, of Brasstown, NC passed away Tuesday, November 20, 2007 at Murphy Medical Center in Murphy, NC.  Mr. green was a native of Towns County, GA but had lived most of his life in Clay County, NC.  He was a son of the late Willie Blin and Amanda Fleming Green.  He was a self employed Timber Cutter and was of the Methodist faith.  He enjoyed his family, especially his grandchildren and also was a regular fan at Tri-County Raceway.  He could often be found “sittin’ on the bench” at Clay’s Corner.  He was preceded in death by a sister, Jo Ann arms.

Mr. Green is survived by his wife, Gladys Lance Green; two sons, Leon Green and wife Debbie of Murphy, NC and Richard Green of Brasstown, NC: two daughters, Sarah Suddereth of Brasstown, NC and Mary Henderson and husband Darrell also of Brasstown, NC; one brother, Bob Green of Blairsville, GA and one sister Jenell Barnett and husband Clarence of Peachtree; one grandson, Greg Suddereth of Brasstown, NC; six granddaughters: Jennifer Green of Greenville, NC, Alicia Green of Conway, AR, Vanessa and Haley Henderson of Brasstown, NC, Stacy Green of Murphy, NC and Crystal Green of Hayesville, NC and one great-granddaughter, Ann Alyse Green and several nieces and nephews.

The family received friends at 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Wednesday, November 21, 2007 at the Townson Rose Funeral Home Chapel in Murphy, NC.  Visitation concluded at 8 p.m. with prayer by Rev. Aud Brown.  Interment was at Hickory Stand Methodist Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in memory of Medford L. Green to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 1151, Murphy, NC 28906.  You may send tributes to the Green family at www.mem.com.

dorothy louise wilkinson

 

Dorothy Louise Wilkinson, age 87, of Hiawassee, GA, formerly of Hayesville, NC died Wednesday, November 14, 2007, at her home.  She was a native of Tampa, FL and a daughter of the late Walter M. and Carrie Rief Beckley.  She was a member of the Hayesville First United Methodist Church and was a homemaker.  Dorothy loved all animals, especially her pets.

Dorothy is survived by her husband, Harold George “Hal” Wilkinson; a brother, Walter M. Beckley, JR. of Tampa, FL and a sister, Gloria Gomalak of San Antonio, TX.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Saturday, November 17, 2007, at the Hayesville First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Kirk Hatherly officiating.  Pallbearers were: Bud Vaught, Rick Knowles, Steve West, Dannie Reed, R.J. Knowles and Mike Cooper.  Graveside rites and burial were held at 10 a.m. Monday, November 19, 2007, at the Myrtle Hill memorial park in Tampa, FL.  The family received friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, November 16, 2007, at the Townson Rose Chapel in Hayesville, NC.

IN lieu of flowers memorials may be made in memory of Dorothy L. Wilkinson to the Valley River Humane Society, P.O. Box 658, Murphy, NC 28906.

ruby ledford colwell

 

Mrs. Ruby Ledford Colwell, age 90 of Hiawassee, GA passed away on Thursday, November 15, 2007 following a period of declining health.  She was born to the late Elbert and Laura (Nichols) Ledford on March 24, 1917 in Walker County, AL.  She was preceded in death by her husbands, Robert Colwell and Neal E. McNabb; a twin sister, Ruth Campbell; a daughter, Betty Ruth Helton and a son, Donald Gene McNabb.

She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Tommy L. and Jimmye McNabb, of Hiawassee, GA; ten grandchildren, twenty-three great-grandchildren, eighteen great-great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services were held on Sunday, November 18, 2007 at 2 p.m. from the chapel of Banister Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Youngblood officiating.  Music was provided by Julia Youngblood.  Pallbearers were Johnathan Helton, Patrick Gibson, Robert McNabb, Randall McNabb, Dwayne Helton, Bobby McNabb and Jason McNabb.  Interment was in Lower Bell Creek cemetery.

mildred haigler

 

Mrs. Mildred Haigler, age 77, of Hiawassee, GA passed away on Monday, October 15, 2007.  She was born to the late Frank McKinley and Verdie Emiline Duckworth Ensley on May 2, 1930 in Union County, GA.  She was preceded in death by a grandson, Joseph Zachary Shepard.

She is survived by daughters, Laura Jane Turner of Houston, TX and Elizabeth Ruth Palmer of Chicago, IL; sons, James Martin Brown, Jr. of Augusta, GA, Joseph Blair Turner of Oakwood, CA, Jarrett Stephen Turner of Rome, GA; brothers, Bob Ensley and Sam Ensley, both of Blairsville, GA, and Franklin Ensley, Jr. of Young Harris, GA; sisters, Willa Bel Fritz Caylor of Blairsville and Sara Posin of Las Vegas, NV; seventeen grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services were held on October 19, 2007 at 11 a.m. from Union Hill Methodist Church with Rev. Hoyt Allen officiating.  Music was provided by jean Ward and Claudette Griffin.  Pallbearers were Morgan Brown, Matthew Bray, Adam turner, Nathan Turner, Jesse Turner, and Jarrett Turner.  Honorary pallbearers were Sammy Ensley, Jr., Tray Hicks, and Jay Jarrett Moore.  Eulogy was by Dr. Joseph B. Turner.  Interment was in Holly Hills Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to the VFW Thrift Store or to the Mountain Shelter Humane Society.
