mr. james harvey bass

 

Mr. James Harvey Bass, age 77, of Young Harris, Georgia, formerly of Albany, GA, passed away Thursday, October 27, 2005 at his residence.

Mr. Bass was born Wednesday, May 2, 1928 in Thomas County, Georgia, to the late Wesley Bass and Della Parker Bass.  He was a member of McConnell Memorial Baptist Church and the Lions Club of Hiawassee, Georgia, and was an U.S. Army Veteran.  He was preceded in death by his first wife, LaNaette Bass, who died in 1994.

Survivors include: wife, Ruby Watson Bass of Young Harris, Georgia; daughter, Marsha Buchanan of Albany, Georgia; son, Gregory P. Watson of Suwanee, Georgia; daughter, Connie W. Turner of Jonesboro, Georgia; grandsons, Jeffrey Buchanan of Lee County, Georgia; and Jason Buchanan of Jacksonville, Florida; great-grandson, Jackson Buchanan of Lee County, Georgia; brother, Leroy Bass of Tifton, Georgia; sister, Lillie Pearl Whittington of Moultrie, Georgia.

Funeral services were held Monday, October 31, 2005 at 11 a.m. from the Hall and Hall Funeral Home Chapel in Albany, with the Rev. J.B. Redd officiating.  Interment was in Floral Memory Gardens.

The family has suggested, that in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Georgia Mountains Hospice, Inc., 70 Caring Wary, P.O. Box 580, Jasper, Georgia 30143.

mildred lee foster

 

Mrs. Mildred Lee Foster, age 69, of Hiawassee, GA passed away on Tuesday, November 29, 2005 following an extended illness.  She was born the late Garmon and Carrie (Arrowood) Maney on August 17, 1936 in Clay County, NC.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Daris Foster.  She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Sheila and Trannis Miller, of Hiawassee, GA; a son and daughter-in-law, Lamar and Teresa Ann Foster, of Hiawassee, GA; sisters, Marie Spiva, of Hiawassee, GA; Edith Dyer, of Blairsville, GA; Jean Bradshaw, of Demorest, GA; and Teresa Bohannon, also of Demorest, GA; three grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.  Funeral services were held on December 1, 2005 at 2 p.m. from Lower Hightower Baptist Church with Rev. Harold Ledford and Rev. Chris Rumfelt officiating.  Music was provided by Chris Rumfelt and the Church choir.  Pallbearers were Jim Arrowood, Travis Miller, Scott Hamilton, Jerry Hamilton, Travis Foster and Aubrey Foster.  Interment was in Lower Hightower Baptist Church Cemetery.  Banister Funeral Home of Hiawassee in charge of arrangements

mrs. gladys shaw

 

Mrs. Gladys Shaw, age 88, of Hiawassee, GA, passed away on November 28, 2005.  She was a resident of Brasstown manor for a number of years.  Gladys was a member of Hiawassee United Methodist Church where she was active I the United Methodist Women and worked on many committees.  She was active in the Home Maker Club.  As a member of Chatuge Regional Nursing Home & Hospital Auxiliary, she logged many hours, receiving a thank you ribbon for her “Dedication and Caring…a Work of Heart:.  She was also a volunteer for the American Red Cross and a member of the Hiawassee Garden Club before going to work as a Dorm Director for Young Harris College from 1973 until 1990.  She was known as “Mama Shaw: to the girls in Appleby West.

She was preceded in death by her husband George W. Shaw; father and mother, Fred and Maggis Shannon, brothers John and Ed C. Shannon and sister, Violet.  She is survived by six nieces, two nephews and many friends.

Funeral services were held Friday, December 2, 2005 at 2 p.m. from the Hiawassee United Methodist Church with Rev. Jim Blair and Rev. Ken Fuller officiating.  Pallbearers were Fred Whitley, Jim Hale, Ron Miller, Vernon Schaffer, Bill Vinning, and Philip Anglin.  Interment was in Enotah Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hiawassee United Methodist Church Building Fund, PO Box 609, Hiawassee, GA in Mrs. Gladys Shaw’s memory.
