Gladys
Mae Ash Smith Lotz, age 100 years and 55 days, died at the Chatuge
Nursing
Home, Hiawassee, GA on November 29, 2010. The cause was
cardio-pulmonary-respiratory failure.
Born
October 5, 1910 in Toledo, OH. Following
graduation from high school in Toledo, Gladys worked for Champion Spark
Plug
Co. in Toledo, OH from 1928-1934. Her
responsibilities included supervising the entering and processing of
data using
one of the earliest commercial versions of IBM computer punch card
technology. She lived in Toledo, OH, the
Chicago, IL area,
Ann Arbor, MI, and Hayesville, NC. She
and her husband, Hal, travelled extensively through the United States
and
Canada. Gladys was a member of Sharp
Memorial Methodist Church in Young Harris, GA. She
held many leadership and volunteer
positions in her church and with the Chatuge Hospital and Nursing Home
Auxiliary in Hiawassee, GA. until the age of 95. She
resided in Hayesville for 38 years, and
was able to live in her own home through her 100th birthday.
Survivors
include her five children: Dr. Marshall L. Smith & Dominique
Lepoutre of
Caledonia, NY; Dr. Nelson L. Smith & Dawn Smith of Escanaba, MI;
Susan Lotz
Browne and Pat Browne of Chicago, IL; Wayne Lotz & Cathy Lotz, of

IL; and Linda Lotz Mapel & Randy Mapel, of Towanda, IL; seventeen
grandchildren: Dr. Aric Smith of Grand Rapids, MI, Dr. Robert Smith of
Canandaigua, NY, Michael Browne of Riverside, CA, Shannon Smith Pope of

step-mother, Mary
Radcliffe Ash (January 29, 1965); step-son Paul Lotz (July 13, 1963);
step-grandson David Browne (March 8, 1998); siblings: Helen Ash
Bandfield
(December 7, 1966), Harry K. Ash, Rev. Robert Ash, and Dorothy Ash
Ackland; and
nephews Glenn Smith, Richard Paulson and Lawrence Bandfield (February
8, 2009),
niece Roberta Paulson Fox, cousin Eugene Paul Hiett (December 28,
2009), Ivan’s
parents Walter H. Smith (January 25, 1926) and Mabel Edna McKinley
Smith (June
7, 1938), and Hal’s parents Charles Lotz and Clara Nothdurft Lotz.
A
memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. EST, Saturday, January 15,
2011 at
Sharp Memorial Methodist Church, Young Harris, GA.

Mrs.
Dorothy Martha
Lewis age 84 of Heathers Cove Rd., Hiawassee passed away on Thursday
Dec. 2, 2010
in the Northeast GA Medical Center following a brief illness. Mrs. Lewis was born on Aug. 3, 1926 in Hudson,
PA, the daughter of the late Thomas Roland Robson and the late Julia
Ella
Rondeau Robson. Dorothy had an awesome
gift of hospitality and service. Her
home and family was her life. She was a
loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother and great grandmother. She enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening,
flowers and crafts. Dorothy was preceded
in death by a brother, Thomas Robson and sister, Jean Clay. Mrs. Lewis was a member of All Saints Lutheran
Church.
Surviving
Mrs. Lewis
are her loving husband of sixty-six years, James Richard Lewis of
Hiawassee,
three daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra and James Sharrock of
Blairsville,
Suzanne and Frank Broedell of Tequesta, FL, Debbie and Paul Robinson of
Longwood, FL, one sister, Shirley Crowley of Windsor, NY, eight
grandchildren,
Todd (Lindsay) Sharrock, Sean (Tracey) Sharrock, Frank (Marcey)
Broedell III,
Kara (Ben) Hodas, Jamie (Grabriel) Sugar, Jenny Robinson, Christie
Robinson and
Carrie Robinson, seven great grandchildren, Sydney and Adalynn
Sharrock,
Rachel, Broedy and Bryce Broedell, Linley and Tyler Hodas many other
relatives
and friends also survive.
A
celebration of life service will be held on Sunday Dec. 5, 2010 at 4
p.m. from
the All Saints Lutheran Church with Pastor Dave Wesche officiating.
Special
music will be presented by Carol Blackburn. Serving as pallbearers will
be
family members. In lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests
that
memorials may be made to the All Saints Lutheran Church in memory of
Mrs.
Lewis. Interment was held on Saturday Dec. 4, 2010 in the Holly Hills
Cemetery.
