dr. frank elam gore

 

Dr. Frank Elam Gore, age 83 of Hiawassee, GA passed away Wednesday, December 3, 2003 at his home.

Dr. Gore was born October 30, 1920 in Highlands County, FL, a son of the late Jesse and Ruth (Swilley) Gore.  He retired from his dental practice in Naples, FL in 1985 and moved to Hiawassee.  Dr. Gore was a WWII U.S. Navy Veteran, a member of Macedonia Baptist Church and the Corithian Masonic Lodge F&AM #191 in Mulberry, FL.

Survivors include: his wife, Joy Gore of the home; sons, Frank Gore, Jr. of Bonita Beach, FL, Fred Michael Gore of Woodstock, GA, Randall Vernon Gore of Naples, FL and Ronald Jesse Gore of Hiawassee, GA; fifteen grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Saturday, December 6, 2003 at 2 p.m. at the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home with Rev. Harold Ledford officiating.  Music was by Lois Phillips.  Pallbearers were Cecil Hicks, Doug Kendall, Chick McClure, Dwayne Osborn, Bill Kendall and J.T. Wilson.  Burial was in the Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery.

mrs. veta mae barrett

 

Mrs. Veta Mae Barrett, age 81 of Hiawassee, GA passed away Tuesday, November 25, 2003.

Mrs. Barrett was born January 20, 1922 in Towns County, GA a daughter of the late Charlie and Stella (McConnell) Kirby.  She was a member of Union Hill United Methodist Church.  Mrs. Barrett was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Barrett and a daughter, Jimmie Nell Barrett.

Survivors include: her son and daughter-in-law, Benny and Linda Barrett of Hiawassee, GA; sister, hazel Edwards, Blon Swanson, and Deloris Chastain all of Hiawassee, GA; grandchildren, Dena Ivester, Tammy Hooper and Stacey Davenport; five great grand-children.

Funeral services were held Thursday, November 27, 2003 at 2 p.m. at Union Hill United Methodist Church with Rev. Harold Ledford officiating.  Music was by Bobby Taylor and Lois Phillips.  Pallbearers were Jennings Ivester, Chad Hooper, Tommy Davenport, David Nicholson, Larry Swanson and Terry Swanson.  Honorary pallbearers were Rudy Roach and Vester Barrett.  Interment was in Burch Cemetery.

william hubert youngblood

 

Mr. William Hubert Youngblood, age 76, of Hiawassee, GA., passed away Friday, November 28, 2003 in Union General Hospital.

Mr. Youngblood was born December 14, 1926 in Towns County, a son of the late Pengry and Verna Wood Youngblood.  He was a WWII U.S. Army Veteran, a member of Unicoy Masonic Lodge #259 F&AM and a member of Macedonia Baptist Church.  Mr. Youngblood was retired from General Motors.

Survivors include his wife, Margie Youngblood, of the home; sons, Jerry Hancock, of Fairburn, Georgia and William Dale Youngblood of Waco, Texas; daughters, Diane Yates of Gainesville, Georgia, Sherry Berrong and Katrina Rodriguez, both of Hiawassee, Georgia; sisters, Ruth Stamey, Della Mae Dearing and Wanda Hyatt, all of Hiawassee, Georgia; brothers, James B. Youngblood of Moline, Illinois, Ray E. Youngblood and Owen Youngblood, both of Lawrenceville, Georgia; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Sunday, November 30, 2003 at 2:00 pm in the chapel of Cochran Funeral Home with Rev. Harold Ledford and Rev. Rayburne Wilson officiating.  Music was provided by Glen and Sheila Eller and Rayburne and Lynn Wilson.  Pallbearers were:  Paul Moss, Kevin Youngblood, Tony Dearing, Barry Dearing, Terry Dearing and Bret Barrett.  Honorary Pallbearers were Brad Barrett, Roger Youngblood, Brad Chastain, Russell Youngblood, Joey Hyatt and Keith Hyatt.  Interment was in the Laurel Hills Memory Gardens.

Cochran Funeral Home of Hiawassee, Georgia was in charge of the arrangements.

mr. james william sluder

 

Mr. James William Sluder, age 76 of Hiawassee, GA formerly of Gilmer County passed away Wednesday, December 3, 2003 at his home.

Mr. Sluder was born August 2, 1927 in Gilmer County, a son of the late Walker M. and Lerah (Sumner) Sluder.  He was a WWII U.S. Navy Veteran and a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church. of Macedonia Baptist Church.  Mr. Youngblood was retired from General Motors.

Survivors include: his wife, Lassie Sluder of the home; daughter, Geneva Beal of Athens, GA; step-sons, Gene Williams of Hiawassee, GA and Michael Williams of Dahlonega, GA; sisters, Onita Parks and Betty Vautrot both of Ellijay, GA; brothers, Wayne Sluder and John Sluder, both of Ellijay, GA; five grandchildren, including Jamie Williams, Dexter Williams and Dustin Williams; three great grandchildren, including Cody Williams; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Friday, December 5, 2003 at 2 p.m. at Mt. Zion Baptist Church with Rev. Anthony Dye and Rev. Chip Gribble officiating.  Music was by The Men of Zion.  Pallbearers were John Sluder, Jr., Wayne Sluder, Jr., Jerry Parks, Ronnie Vautrot, James Parks and Chip Cook.  Burial was in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Mary Faye Dial, age 76 of Young Harris, GA passed away Friday, December 5, 2003 in Chatuge Regional Hospital in Hiawassee, GA.

Mrs. Dial was born in Winston-Salem, NC, October 24, 1927, a daughter of the late Bernard C. and Mary Kathleen (Bachman) Johnson, Jr.  She moved to Towns County six years ago from Jonesboro, GA.  Mrs. Dial was a retired Banker having worked for the 1st National Bank of Atlanta.  She was a member of the Calvary Moravian Church in Winston-Salem, NC and McConnell Memorial Baptist Church in Hiawassee, GA. Mr. William Hubert Youngblood, age 76, of Hiawassee, GA., passed away Friday, November 28, 2003 in Union General Hospital.

Survivors include: her husband Alvin E. Dial of Young Harris, GA; sons and daughter-in-laws, Avery James and Marsha Wyatt of Suwannee, GA and Stephen A. and Gail Wyatt of Columbia, TN; brother, Bernard C. Johnson of Lakeland, FL; granddaughter, Brittany Wyatt.

Funeral services were held Monday, December 8, 2003 at Calvary Moravian Church with Rev. lane Stepp officiating.  Interment was in the Moravian Graveyard.

Mrs. Georgia Berrong, age 86 of Cleveland, GA formerly of Towns County passed away Friday, December 5, 2003 in Clay County Care Center.

Mrs. Berrong was born January 17, 1917 in Towns County, GA, a daughter of the late Damascus and Minnie Lee (Smith) Denton.  Mrs. Berrong was the widow of Howell Clay Berrong.

Survivors include: grandchildren, David Berrong, Barbara Basil, Vicki Midcap, Steve Buss and Tiffany Crable all of Canton, Ohio; sisters, Faye Watkins of Fletcher, NC, Claudine Ash of Hendersonville, NC, and Willene Owenby of Toccoa, GA; brother, John Denton of Hiawassee, GA; several great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, December 9, 2003 at 11:00 am at the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home with Rev. Richard Robertson officiating.  Music was by Suzanne Hedden.  Pallbearers were Gary Denton, Elliott Arrowood, Everett Arrowood, Edwin Arrowood, J.T. Garrett and Wilford Dean.  Burial was in the Lower Hightower Baptist Church.
