zelma corrine hunnicutt cordell
Zelma
Corrine Hunnicutt Cordell, 96, of Marion, passed away peacefully
Monday, December 1, 2008 at the Mountain Ridge
Wellness center in Black
Mountain, NC.
She was
born November 21, 1912, in Hiawassee, GA, to the late William Arbra
Hunnicutt
and Corrine Gibson Hunnicutt. In
addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by her husband
of 74
years, Harold Cordell, and a daughter, Marjorie Cordell Creasman. Brothers that preceded her in death: Felder,
Norris, Voyd and James B. Hunnicutt, sister that preceded her in death,
Dalene
Hunnicutt Gregory.
She was a
longtime member of Pleasant Gardens Baptist Church serving as Sunday School teacher, Bible School Teacher, and a Girls
Auxiliary
leader. She helped start the Golden Age
Club. She loved young people, and would
often take her classes on picnics, driving an old pickup with the kids
in
back. She served as PTA president to
Pleasant Gardens School. She also worked
in Rose’s managing the snack bar, Belk, and the old Jimison Hardware
Store, and
was a hospital volunteer. Zelma loved
her late husband, her family, friends, and her church.
She was always there to lend a helping hand
in the neighborhood.
Surviving
are one son, Kenneth Cordell (Barbara) of Athens, GA; one daughter,
Glenda
Jackson (Dennis) of Marion; two sisters, Ruby Hunnicutt Rhinehardt of
young
Harris, GA, and Ruth Hunnicutt Rogers of marble, CN; one brother,
William
Hunnicutt of Hayesville NC; six grandchildren; and three great
grandchildren.
Services
were held at 2 PM on Thursday, December 4, 2008 in McCall Memorial
Chapel at
Kirksey Funeral Home, Marion. Burial
followed at McDowell Memorial Park. The
family received friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral
home.
A very special thank you to the staff of
Mountain Ridge Wellness
Center, Black Mountain for the excellent care and love shown to Ms.
Cordell.
In lieu of
flowers, memorials may be made to the Golden Age Club, Pleasant Gardens
Baptist
Church, or meals on Wheels in Marion.
The family
will be at the home of Glenda Jackson.
Kirksey
Funeral Home in Marion N C is assisting the family.

Mr. Paul
Wesley McClure, age 88, of Hiawassee, GA, passed away on Tuesday,
December 02,
2008 following a period of declining health.
He was born to the late Walter J. and Hester (Carter) McClure on
August
16, 1920, in Clay County, NC. He is
survived by his wife, Ann McClure of Hiawassee, GA; son, Paul William
McClure,
of Houston, TX; sister, Wanda Woody, of Blairsville, GA; one
grandchild, two
great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services
were held on Friday, December 05, 2008 at 2 PM from the chapel of
Banister
Funeral Home, with Rev. Mike Youngblood and Rev. Harold Ledford
officiating. Music was provided by Glen
and Sheila Eller
and Doc. Pallbearers were V.C. McClure,
Kelley Jones, Loy Thomas, Ricky Dyer, Byron Jones and Tommy Thomas. Interment was in laurel Hills memory Garden
cemetery.

Mrs.
Robin Burns Atwater, age 55, of Wild Wood Rd., Young Harris, passed
away on
Sunday, Dec. 7, 2008 in the Union General Hospital following a brief
illness. Mrs. Atwater was born on Oct. 12,
1953 in
Macon, GA, the daughter of the late Leon Black Burns and the late Lora
Roller
Burns. Robin was a loving wife, mother,
sister and grandmother. She was preceded
in death by a brother, Lawrence Burns.
Mrs. Atwater was a member of Vineville United Methodist where
she had
taught Sunday School.
Surviving
Mrs. Atwater are her loving husband of thirty-eight years, Jim Atwater
of Young
Harris, one daughter and son-in-law, Michelle and John Irvine of Macon,
GA,
three sons and two daughters-in-law, Jonathan and Jennifer Atwater of
Macon,
Christopher and Susan Atwater of Macon, Private First Class *US Army)
Blake
Atwater, of Blairsville, one brother and sister-in-law, Len and Pat
Burns of
Forsyth, A, four grandchildren, Summer and Chyna Irvin, Jon-Clay and
Madyson
Atwater, many other relatives and friends also survive.
Services will
be held on Thursday, Dec. 11, 2008 at 11 a.m. form the mountain
View Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Derek McAller officiating. In lieu of flowers if you wish, the family
requests that memorials may be made to the Methodist Children’s Home,

Pierce Ave., Macon, GA 31204 or to the Union County Humane Society in
memory of
Mrs. Atwater. The family will meet with
friends at the funeral home on Wednesday evening anytime after 6 p.m.
