Mrs.
Doris Laverne Stuart age 97 of Ivy Log Gap Young Harris formerly of
Memphis,
TN., passed away on Tuesday Dec. 16, 2008 in the Union County Nursing
Home following
an extended illness. Mrs. Stuart was
born on March 4, 1911 in Stanton, TN., the daughter of the late Edward
Peeler Sr.
and the late Lucille Slaughter Peeler.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Allan Ferguson
Sr. in
1988 and by her second husband, Lofton Stuart in 1995, a daughter,
Joyce Kaye
Ferguson in 2006. Mrs. Stuart was a
member of St. Lukes United Methodist Church in Memphis.
Surviving
Mrs. Stuart are one son and daughter in law, Allan and Sandra Ferguson
of Young
Harris, one sister, Regina Mullins of Jacksonville, TN., one grandson,
Michael
Ferguson of Jacksonville, FL, two great grandchildren, many other
relatives and
friends also survive.
A memorial
service will be held at a later date in Memphis, TN.
IN lieu of flowers if you wish, the family
requests that memorials may be made to St. Lukes United Methodist
Church or to
the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation in memory of Mrs. Stuart.

Mrs.
Annie Ruth Berrong, age 83, of Hiawassee, GA, passed away on Wednesday,
December 17, 2008 following a period of declining health.
She was born to the late Leonard and Bertha
(Underwood) Nicholson on January 14, 1925 in Towns County, GA. She is survived by daughter, Sandra Byers, of
Hiawassee, GA; sons, Gary Berrong, of Hiawassee, GA; Mike Berrong, of
Hiawassee, GA; brother, Wade Nicholson, of Hiawassee, GA; sisters,
Thelma Reed
and Opal Berrong, both of Hiawassee, GA; seven grandchildren, several
great
grandchildren, one great-great grandchild and a number of nieces and
nephews also
survive. Funeral services were held on
Friday, December 19, 2008 at 1 PM from the chapel of Banister Funeral
Home with
Rev. David Berrong officiating. Music was provided by Rodney and Becky
Underwood. Pallbearers were: Tim
Coleman, Joseph Foster, Scott Hamilton, Brandon Burrell, Jeff Arrowood
and
William Chastain. Interment was in Lower
Hightower Baptist Church cemetery.

Elzie Denton, age 75, of Hiawassee, GA, passed away Sunday, December
14, 2008
at Chatuge Regional Hospital.
Mrs. Denton
was born Friday, May 12, 1933 in towns Co., GA, to the late M.C. and

(Beck) Burrell. She was a member of Pine
Grove Baptist Church.
Survivors

Claude
Lamar Coleman, Sr., age82, of Mt. Airy, GA, died Sunday, December 14,
2008 at
the Northeast Georgia Medical Center.
Mr. Coleman
was born on December 19, 1925 in Hiawassee, GA, to the late Leamon
Lavaughn and
Emma Bell Arrendale Coleman. In
addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Louis
Ronnie
Coleman, his grandsons, Andrew Reece Coleman and Clayton Lee Coleman,
his
sisters, Della Shirley and Vella Little, as
well as
his brothers, Patrick, Verlyon, Wilson, Clyde, and Dorsey Coleman. Mr. Coleman was a
Untied states Army Veteran having served during World War II. He was an independent trucker for 20 years
and retired after 22 years at Lee Arrendale Correctional Institute as a
Corrections Officer II. Mr. Coleman was
of the Baptist faith and was a member of the Mt. Airy Masonic Lodge
#141
F&AM. He was a wonderful husband,
father, and grandfather; was a simple man and simple things made him
happy. Mr. Coleman was an avid sportsman
who enjoyed hunting, fishing, and golf.
He was an excellent gun smith.

include: his wife: Lillian Vesta Payne Coleman, Mt. Air, GA; his
daughters and
sons-in-law; Margaret Ann and Jerry Elrod, Clarkesville, GA; Janice and
David
Green, Demorest, GA; Martha Sue and Robert Chastain, Mt. Airy, GA; his
sons and
daughters-in-law: Claude Lamar, Jr. and Denise Coleman, Cornelia, GA;
Jimmy
Leamon and Kathy Coleman and Rex Stanley and Marsha Coleman, all of Mt.
Airy,
A; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren.
Funeral
services were held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, December 16, 2008 from the
Glade Creek
Baptist Church with rev. Bill Gravely officiating.
Interment followed in the church cemetery
with Masonic Grave rites provided by the Mt. Airy Lodge #141 F&AM
and full
military honors provided by the Habersham County American Legion Post
#84, the
Grant Reeves V.F.W. Post #7720 and the Rabun County DAV Chapter #15.
The family
received friends at the Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel, Baldwin,

2 until 4 and 7 until 9 p.m. on Monday.
Mr. Coleman was placed in the church at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday to
lie in
state until the funeral hour.

Douglass
E. Lyons, 69, of Bonita Springs, FL, passed away December 15, 2008 at
the
University of Miami Miller School of
Medicine. A former resident of Miami, he
had lived in
Bonita Springs for the past three years.
He was born June 29, 1938 in Miami, FL, the son of the late
Edward E.
and Menla (nee Norman) Lyons.
He was the
former owner of Lyons Insurance agency, Inc., in Miami and affiliated
with
state Farm Insurance for 36 years. He
was a graduate of the American College of Life Underwriters through the
University of Miami, a former member of the Matheson Hammock yacht
Club, The
Dinner Key Cruising Club and the Knights of Columbus.
Doug moved to West Palm beach
with his family when he was 8 years old and attended St. Ann HIGH
School. He returned to Miami when he was
16 and
graduated from Southwest High School.
He is
survived by his loving children, Yvonne, (Rodney) Lyons Snow, Douglass
E.,
(Jennifer) Lyons, Dr. Eileen, (Steve) Lyons-Howey and Linda Lyons
Addeo;
brother, Michael R., (Cynthia) Lyons and his sisters, Menla (Sandy)
Tyson,
Linda Draper, Mary Stanley and Cecily Jennings.
He is also survived by seven loving grandchildren, Hannah and
Natalie
Lyons, Alexa, Cailen and Amber Lyons-Howey, and Giuliana and Genevieve
Addeo.
He was
preceded in death by his beloved wife of 49 years, Eileen, one year ago
on
12/18/07, as well as 2 younger brothers Timothy and Charlie Lyons. Visitation was held at Our Lady of Light
Catholic Church, Friday, December 19 2008, from 1 PM to 3 PM with the
Celebration of the Mass of Christian Burial immediately following;
