jaimeson drew snow

 

Jaimeson Drew Snow, age 17, of Pleasant Hill Rd., Blairsville, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 29, 2005 in Lumpkin County following injuries received in an automobile accident.  Jaimeson was born on Jan. 31, 1988 in Union County, the son of John William Snow Jr. and Janene Henson Snow.  He was a native and lifelong resident of Union County and had attended the Union County School System.  He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Jimmy Henson and Fumiko Snow.  Jaimeson attended the First Baptist church.

Surviving Jaimeson are his parents, John William Snow Jr. of Blairsville, Janene Henson Gray of Loganville, GA, second Mom and Dad, Rita and Stan Gunter of Blairsville, three brothers, John William Snow III, Kyle Snow and Caleb Snow all of Blairsville, grandparents, Joyce Henson of Blairsville, John William Snow, Sr. of Blairsville, great-grandparents, Reba and William Newsome, uncles and aunts, Jason and Amy Henson, Jared and Helen Henson, Jennifer Howard, Pat and Denise Snow and Henry Snow, cousins, Jordyn Hoard, Misty, Brandy, Brooke, Ashley, Daniel and Dylan Snow, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Sunday, Jan. 1, 2006 at 4 pm from the First Baptist Church with the Rev. Fred Lodge and Rev. Chris Miller officiating.  Special music was presented by Terry Hooper.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers, Trey Gunter, Matt Forrester, Justin Jones, Lee Goodman, Evan Albright and Shane McDonald.  Interment followed in the Ebenezer Baptist Church Cemetery.

wayne t. stroud

 

Wayne T. Stroud, age 97, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away FRIDAY, December 30, 2005.  Mr. Stroud was born Tuesday, April 28, 1908 in Union County, Georgia to the late William Harve Stroud land the late Louise Swanson Stroud.  Mr. Stroud lived most of his life in Union County.  A member of the First United Methodist Church of union County, Mr. Stroud was a WWII Army Air Corps Veteran, a graduate of Young Harris College Class of 1933, past president of the Blairsville Chamber of Commerce and one of the five original board members of the Union General Hospital Authority.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Pusser Stroud.

Survivors include many nieces and nephews, and other relatives.

Funeral services were held Monday, January 2, 2006 at 11 AM from the Chapel of the Cochran Funeral Home with Rev. Eddie Herring officiating.  Music was provided by Mrs. Martha Ann Cone.  Interment followed in Blairsville City Cemetery.  Serving as pallbearers were the following gentlemen: John Gurley, Richard Davis, Jerry Driskell, Charles Nash, Bob Ball, Jack Butler and Steve Everman.  The family received friends at the funeral home from 9-11 AM, Monday, January 2.  If you wish, memorials may be made to Wayne Stroud and Ruth P. Stroud Student Loan Fund for Young Harris College.

phillip luke barnett

 

Phillip Luke Barnett, age 19, of Chatham Rd. Blairsville, passed away on Thursday Dec. 29, 2005 in Lumpkin County following injuries received in an automobile accident.  Luke was born on Dec. 31, 1985 in Hall County, GA, the son of Phillip Joel Barnett and Virginia Maxine Tignor Barnett.  He was a lifelong resident of Union County and had attended the Union County School system.  Luke was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving Luke are his parents, Maxine Barnett of Blairsville ;and Phillip Barnett of Lawrenceville, GA, two sisters and one brother-in-law, Allison and Mark Thorsen of Cumming, GA, Britton Naomi Barnett of Deluth, two brothers and sister-in-laws, Jeff and Teresa Barnett of Savannah, GA, Robert and Susan Barnett of Blairsville, grandparents, Troy and Joy  Tignor  of Snellville, Bobbie Barnett of Lawrenceville, nieces and nephews, Natalie Thorsen, Ryan Marie Barnett and Isiah Barnett, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Sunday 1, 2006 at 2 pm from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Brent Chatham officiating.  Special music was presented by Casey Jones and Scott Lance.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers, Chris and Bo McClure, Jarod Berger, Jeff and Robert Barnett, Jeremy Huggins, Wes Summers, Kevin Terry, Dusty Huggins and Jonathan Barclay.  Interment followed in the Liberty Baptist Church cemetery.  The family met with friends at the funeral home on Saturday evening from 6-9 pm.

ronnie jones

 

Mr. Ronnie Jones, age 50, of W. Anderson Rd., Blairsville passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2005 following a brief illness.  Mr. Jones was born on May 12, 1955 in Towns County, the son of Ollie King Jones and the late I.V. Jones.  He was a lifelong resident of Union County.  Ronnie’s favorite hobby was pitching horse shoes.  He loved his cat named Rosie who had owned for several years.  Mr. Jones was a member of Victory Baptist Church and had attended Fairview Baptist Church.

Surviving Mr. Jones are his mother, Ollie King Jones of Blairsville, sister and brother-in-law: Diane and Sam Robinson of Gainesville, GA, nephew: Christopher Cornett, Uncles: Grady Jones, J.B., Ovell, Vernon and Troy King, Aunt: Kathleen Brackett, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday Dec. 31, 2005 at 11 am from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Tommy Jones officiating.  Special music will be presented by the New Life Singers.  The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers, Arlin Everett, Jerry Everett, Charles Totherow, Raymond King, Terry Everett and Scott Jones.  Interment will follow in the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.  The family will meet with friends at the funeral home on Friday evening from 6-9 pm.

mazel bernice hunt

 

Mrs. Mazel Bernice Hunt, age 73, of the Old Blue Ridge Hwy. Blairsville, passed away on Thursday Dec. 29, 2005 following an extended illness.  Mrs. Hunt was born on June 13, 1932 in Towns County, GA, the daughter of the late Frank Gribble and the late Dollie Cruise Gribble.  She had worked at Georgia Boot for several years.  Her husband, Bruce Hunt and a brother Hoyt Gribble preceded her in death.  She was a lifelong resident of Union County.  Mrs. Hunt was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving Mrs. Hunt are one son and daughter-in-law, Ricky and Michelle Rich of Blairsville, one daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Bill smith of Loganville, GA, two sisters, Mozella Crouch of Ocala, FL, Monette Rhodes of SC, two grandchildren, Kerry Jayne Rich and Brian Plumley, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Saturday Dec. 31, 2005 at 2 pm from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Earl Pickelsimer and Rev. Jerry Young officiating.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers, Jeff Butt, Mike Brown, David Miller, Brian Plumley, Ted Lunsford and Bill Smith.  Interment followed in the Union Memory Gardens Cemetery.

walter wallace ismond

 

Mr. Walter Wallace Ismond, age 82, of Wesley Mountain Drive, Blairsville, passed away on Monday, Dec. 26, 2005 at his home following a brief illness.  He was born on Sept. 3, 1923 in Cadillac, MI, the son of the late Wallace Ismond and Minnie Anderson Ismond.  He graduated from Houghton lake High School.  He worked at Fords in Ypsilanti, MI prior to joining the Navy on Jan. 12, 1943.  He served in the Asiatic Pacific and was discharged on Jan. 1945.  Walter worked at several different jobs, ending up in Ann Arbor, where he joined the Army on Dec. 2, 1947.  Most of his 20 plus Army career was spent in Japan, German, Austria and the United States as a Master Sergeant Specialist in Personnel Accounting.  He retired from the Army in 1964.  After his retirement, he worked for the USDA and a trailer factory in Plainville, MI.  He moved to Murphy, NC in 1985.  Walter was active in the Hiawassee Dam Fire Dept. and was a member of several square dancing clubs.  He moved to Branan Lodge in Sept. 2003.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Morrison D., and sisters, Nellie June Kuns and Helen Louise Kinsey.  He is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Leona and James Turner of Blairsville, GA, and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Friday Jan. 6, 2006 at 2 p.m. from Branan Lodge.  Interment will follow in the Fort Custer national Cemetery in Battle Creek, MI.  The family will meet with friends following the services.  In lieu of flowers, if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to Branan Lodge                                       Celebration of Services in Walter’s memory.

mr. garland carl garrett

 

Mr. Garland Carl Garrett, age 73, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Sunday, January 1, 2006 in Blairsville.  Mr. Garrett was born Sunday, June 12, 1932 in Cherokee County, North Carolina, to the late Emory Garrett and the late Bessie Roberts Garrett.  Mr. Garrett was a U.S. Army Veteran and was of the Baptist Faith.  He loved Bluegrass Music and played a mandolin together with other local musicians.

Survivors include: his wife, Mary Ruth f. Garrett and son and daughter-in-law, Larry R. and Janet B. Garrett, all of Blairsville, sisters, Irene Rhodes, Edith Keenum and Susan Duncan, all of Hendersonville, NC, sister, Ellen Croft of Dallas, NC, sister, Leila King of Wahalla, SC, brother, Roland Garrett of marble, NC, grandson, Jim Matt Garrett, grandson, Joe M. Garrett, great grandson, Scott David Garrett and great grandson, Robbie Garrett. Many nieces, nephews and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, January 3, 2006 at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of the Cochran Funeral Home with Rev. Harley Hunter and Rev. Jerry Karnes officiating.  Music was provided by Ellen, Calvin and Karen Collins.  Interment followed in Shady Grove Church Cemetery.  Serving as pallbearers were: Junior Duckworth, Junior Puett, Jim Garrett, Joe Garrett, Danny Stephens, Chris Souther and Edward Sexton.  The family received friends at the funeral home form 6-8, Monday, January 2.
