Mr.
Ellard
Davenport, age 77, of Blairsville, GA, away Monday, December 26, 2011
in
Atlanta, GA.
Mr.
Davenport was
born in Blairsville on March 8, 1934, a son of the late Luther Jackson
Davenport and the late Effie Odom Davenport. He
had worked in Marietta for 37 years before
moving back to Blairsville. Mr.
Davenport was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church and he enjoyed
working on
his farm raising cattle, working in the garden, and loved listening to
Bluegrass music. He liked to work with
wood, and had a special fondness for building birdhouses. In 2011, his wife, Mildred Hughes Davenport
passed away. His parents, Mr. and
Mrs.
Luther Davenport, preceded him in death; a brother, Thomas Blaine
Davenport;
and a brother-in-law, Cecil Hughes, also preceded him in death.
Mr.
Davenport was a
special person, and will be greatly missed by all who knew him, and
especially
missed by his family: son and daughter-in-law, Harold and Garlene
Davenport, of
Marietta; son, Bill Davenport, of Dallas, GA; son and daughter-in-law,
Roger
and Cheryl Davenport, of Marietta; son and daughter-in-law, Paul and
Magaline
Davenport, of Rockmart, GA; son and daughter-in-law, Danny and Wendy
Davenport,
of Acworth, GA; and son, Chris Davenport, of Dallas, GA; sister-in-law,
Lillie
Breeden, of Woodstock, GA; brother-in-law, Floyd Hughes, of Murphy, NC;
and sister-in-law,
Carmen Carver, of Jasper, GA; thirteen grandchildren, and three great
grandchildren also survive, along with many other relatives and friends.
Funeral
services for
Mr. Davenport were held on Friday, December 30, 2011, at 2 p.m., in the
Chapel
of Cochran Funeral Home. Special music was
presented by Martha Davenport and Cheryl Davenport. The
following gentlemen served as pallbearers:
Jeremy Davenport, Ryan Davenport, Jacob Davenport, Matthew Davenport,
John
Davenport, and Andrew Davenport. Burial
was
in Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation at the funeral home
began on
Thursday evening after 6 p.m., with the family especially meeting with
friends
between the hours of 6 until 9 p.m.
The
family has
suggested that, if you wish, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions
be made
to Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Doris Hefner, 705
Nicholson
Road, Blairsville, Georgia 30512.
