Mr. Joel
L. Fortenberry, age 101, of
Blairsville, GA, passed away Sunday, December 15, 1994, in Northeast
Georgia
Medical Center in Gainesville, GA.
Mr.
Fortenberry was
born in Union County, GA, on June 11, 1893, a son of the late Marcus
LaFayette
Fortenberry and Nancy Delilah Logan Fortenberry. He
was a veteran of the U.S. Army, and served
during World War I, along the front lines in Germany and France. Mr. Fortenberry was a retired farmer and a
lifelong resident of this area. He was a
member of Shady Grove Methodist Church.
His wife, Mrs. Fannie Belle Reese Fortenberry, passed way (sic)
in 1989.
Surviving are two daughters: Mrs.
Grace Jackson of Marietta, GA, and Mrs. Vida Jackson of Celveland,
(sic) GA;
six grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services were held Wednesday,
December 28, 1994 at 2 p.m. from the chapel of Cochran Funeral Home
with Rev.
Dean Head officiating. Special music was
presented by Kenneth and Elaine Young.
The following gentlemen served as pallbearers:
Leon Jackson, Rick Jackson, Terry Jackson,
Danny Saxon, Mike Clark, and Ronnie
Higgins. Military Graveside honors were
presented by the North Georgia Honor Guard.
Interment was in Shady Grove Methodist Church Cemetery.

Mr.
Robert E. Colwell, age 84, of
Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Monday, December 26, 1994 in Union
General
Hospital in Blairsville.
Mr.
Colwell was born
in Gordon County, GA, on January 11, 1910, a son of the late Homer
Jewell and
Eula England Colwell. He was a veteran
of the US Navy and served during World War II.
Mr. Colwell had lived most of his life in the Blairsville area
and was a
retired businessman. He was a member of
First United Methodist Church of Union county, and also a member of
Allegheny
Mason (sic) Lodge No. 114, F&AM. Mr.
Colwell was a Shriner of the Yaarab Temple.
Surviving are his wife: Mrs. Doris
Colwell, of the home; a daughter: ms. Robbie Colwell, of Blairsville; a
sister:
Mrs. Austelle Devilbiss of Nashville, TN; several nieces, nephews and
friends
also survive.
Funeral services were held Wednesday,
December 28, 1994, at 11 a.m. from the Chapel of the Funeral Home with
Dr.
Robert Darvy, Rev. Danny parries, and Rev. Ryan Seawright officiating. Special music was presented by Mrs. Martha
Cone. The following gentlemen served as
pallbearers: Don Phillips, Ricky Wilcox, Newt Miller, Hoyt Browning,
Eric
England, and Joe Dyer. The following
gentlemen served as honorary escort to the family: Bob Colwell, Jim
Dobson,
Clayton Brown, Glenn Gooch, Max Ware, Harry Wright, Frank Merritt,
Wayne
Stroud, and Cecil Nelson. Members of the
Blairsville city Council and members of the Allegheny Masonic Lodge
served as
honorary escort also. Interment was in
Union Memory Gardens in Blairsville.
In lieu
of flowers,
the family requests memorials be made to First United Methodist Church
Building
Fund, or to Habitat for Humanity.

Mrs. Ella
Lou Cantrell, age 71, of
Morganton, passed away Sunday, December 25 in the Lanier Park Hospital
in
Gainesville. Mrs. Cantrell was a native
of Union County and was a life long resident of this area.
She was as a member of the Coopers Creek
Baptist Church.
Survivors include three daughters,
Shirley Hogan of Ellijay, Susie Sisk of Dahlonega, and Diane Rogers of
Morganton; one son, Johnny Cantrell of Suches; two brothers, Leonard
Crizzol
and Archie Crizzol both of Blairsville; one sister, Della Warren of
Winder, GA;
five grandchildren and one great grandchild also survive.
Funeral services were held Wednesday,
December 28, 1994 at 2:00 p.m. from the Coopers Creek Baptist Church
with Rev.
Horace Potts and Rev. Doyle Galloway officiating. The
following gentlemen served as
pallbearers: Rufus Warren, Keith Culberson, Charles Seabolt, Steve
Seabolt,
John L. Edwards, Harold Parker, W. B. Roger and Timmie Hilton. The following gentlemen served as honorary
pallbearers: Charlie Marr and Robbie Wilkins.
Music was by Bean and Gary Callihan, Robbie Wilkins and Margaret
Moates. Interment followed in the church
cemetery. The Henry-Cochran Funeral Home
in charge
of
arrangements.

Mrs.
Alean Patterson, age 83, of
Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Thrusday (sic), December 29, 1994 in
Union
General Hospital in Blairsville. in

Mrs. was
born in
Fannin County, Georgia, on September 18, 1911, a daughter of the (sic)
Elisha
Hunt and Sarah McHan Hunt. She was a
lifelong resident of this area and a homemaker.
Mrs. Patterson was a member of Philadelphia Baptist church and a
former
member of the Friendship Quartet. Her
husband, the late Millard Patterson, passed away in 1976.
Surviving are a son, Mr. Sheldon
Patterson, of Blairsville; a daughter, Mrs. Condice Collins, of
Knoxville,
Tennessee; grandson, Chris Patterson, of Dalton, Georgia; three
granddaughters:
Shelynda Patterson of Blairsville; Catrina and Rayann Collins, both of
Knoxville; several nieces, nephews, and friends also survive.
Funeral services were held Saturday,
December 31, 1994 at 11:00 a.m. from Philadelphia Baptist Church with
Rev.
Waymon Lovell officiating. Special music
was presented by the Kelley Trio. The
following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Vernon Patterson, George
Buchanan,
Vester Dills, Eugene Burnette, Tim Grizzle, and Tim cook.
Interment was in Philadelphia Baptist Church
Cemetery.
