MR. franklin d. platt

 

Mr. Franklin D. Platt, age 58, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Tuesday, December 28, 1999 in Union County Nursing Home in Blairsville.

Mr. Platt was born in Union County, Georgia, on Monday, April 28, 1941, a son of the late Clemon Platt and Mary Thomas Platt.  He had lived in the Atlanta area for 30 years of his life, and was a carpenter by trade.  Mr. Platt was a member of Antioch Baptist Church.

Surviving are his daughter, Donna Platt of Atlanta, and Christie Platt, of Murphy; sons, Steven Platt of Atlanta; Scott Platt of North Carolina; Chad Platt of Blairsville; three sisters, Jessie Collins, of Blairsville; Nancy Ham, of Detroit and Florida; Martha Schroeter of Young Harris and brother, Charlie Platt, of Blairsville; many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, December 29, 1999 at 2 p.m. from the chapel of Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville, with Rev. Willis Garrett and Rev. Brent Chatham officiating.  Special music was presented by Ken and Elaine Young.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Frank Collins, Leon Collins, Johnny Burnett, Shane Murphy, Frankie Couret, and Charles Murphy.  Interment was in Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery.

MR. dave mccollum

 

Mr. Dave McCollum, age 86, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Sunday, December 26, 1999 at his home.

Mr. McCollum was born in Union County, Georgia, on Monday, September 1, 1913, a son of the late Gordon McCollum, and Lou Shope McCollum.  He was a saw-miller and was a member of Corinth Baptist Church.  Mr. McCollum was a life-long resident of Union County, and was preceded in death by his wife, Lola, and two sons; Junior and Jack McCollum.

Surviving are his five daughters: Vel Hicks of Mableton, GA; Grapelle Partridge, and Lynda Timms, both of Gainesville, GA; Doris McCollum, of Blairsville; and Barbara Cook of Murphy, NC; four sons: Robert, Larry and Wayne McCollum, all of Blairsville, and Clyde McCollum of Gainesville, GA; twenty grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren also survive, along with many other friends and relatives.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, December 28, 1999 at 2 p.m. from the chapel of Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville, with Rev. Willis Garrett officiating.  Special music was presented by The Faith Singers, with interment in Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Mike and Anthony Partridge, Johnny Timms, Frankie Miller, Dennis Davis, and Mike Krigline.

MR. frank carmen lucarelli

 

Mr. Frank Carmen Lucarelli, age 78, of Pinebrook Drive, Blairsville, passed away on Friday, December 31, 1999 in the Union General Hospital following an extended illness.  Mr. Lucarelli was born on January 27, 1921 in Utica, NY, the son of the late Raphael Lucarelli and the late Marie Grace Fucci Lucarelli.  He was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, a member of NAFRE, and a member of the American Legion.

Survivors include his wife, Hilda Lucarelli of Blairsville; three sons and daughter-in-laws, Ralph and MaryRose Lucarelli of Hilton head, SC, Craig and Dana of Longmont, CO, James and Marie Lucarelli; one brother, Michael and Gladys Lurel of Long Island, NY; six grandchildren, one great grandchild, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Sunday, January 2, 2000 at 1 pm from the Funeral Home Chapel with Father Tim Gadziala officiating.  Special music was presented by Ken and Elaine Young.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Craig and Jim Lucarelli, Burton Gasser, Paul Leonard, Michael and Dick Smith.  Interment followed in the Union Memory Gardens.

MR. john eveerett pierce

 

Mr. John Eveerett Pierce, age 93, of the Gainesville Hwy. Blairsville, Georgia, passed away on Monday, December 27, 1999 in the Union General Hospital following an extended illness.  Mr. Pierce was born on January 1, 1906 in Union County the son the late Joe Parham Pierce and the late Caldonia Nelson Pierce.  He was a member of the Harmony Grove Baptist Church.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Nora Mae Nicholson in 1966, a daughter, Evon Kelley in 1984, sisters, Alma Walker, Dorkeas Hopkins, Eva Mae Chapman, and Lela Stephens, brothers, Jewell, Marvin, and Carl Pierce.

Survivors include one daughter, Joe Evelyn Davis of Blairsville; one son, Edward Junior Pierce, of Tunnel Hill, GA; one sister, Cora Lee Hackney, of Dalton; grandchildren, Barbara Ann Langford, Linda D. Chambers, John William Davis, Scott and Randy Pierce, nine great grandchildren, four great great grandchildren; many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, December 29, 1999 from the Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Stacy Dyer and the Rev. Horace Potts officiating.  Special music was presented by the Kelley Trio.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Johnny Davis, Scott Pierce, Tyson and Kevin Chambers, Sean and Darin Langford.  Honorary Pallbearers were Randy Pierce, Craig Flater and Jerry Thornton.  Interment followed in the Union memory Gardens.

ms. leona bayne pollard

 

Ms. Leona Bayne Pollard, age 84, of Sweetheart Lane, Blairsville, Georgia, passed away on Saturday, January 1, 2000 at her home following an extended illness.  Ms. Pollard was born on January 1, 1914 in Palmetto, FL., the daughter of the late Levi Daniel Jones and the late Netti Bayne Moore Jones.  Ms. Pollard had worked for Eastern Airlines for several years.

Survivors include one daughter and son in law, Patricia and Joe Taylor of Blairsville; two sons, Michael Pollard of Houston, TX. Peter Hall of Sebring, FL.; nine grandchildren and many other relatives and friends also survive.
