mr. jake burton “j.B.” Kelley, jr.
Mr.
Jake Burton, “J.B.” Kelley, Jr., age 76, of Blairsville, Georgia,
passed away
Tuesday, December 22, 1998 in Union County Nursing Home in Blairsville.
Mr. Kelley
was born Tuesday, September 19, 1922, and he had lived all his life in
Union
County. He was preceded in death by 3
brothers: Tommy, Frank and Paul, and one sister, Minnie Duckworth. Mr. Kelley worked at Blairsville Hardware
with Paul Paris and Bruce Hunt until change of ownership.
The he worked with Blairsville Electric, and
Mr. Bud Nichols, until he retired.
Survivors
include his wife, Brittle, of the Gilmer Nursing Home, whom he loved
and cared
for very much; two sons: Roger and Wayne; also two daughters: Evelyn
Jones and
Opal Barnes, all of Blairsville; two sisters: Maude Powers, of
Michigan, and
Julia Head of Atlanta; one brother, Virge, who is a resident of Union
County
Nursing Home; 8 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren also survive.
“Parting is
Sad” but in words comfort, he assured his children that he was saved
and knew
Jesus as his Savior.”
Funeral
services were held Wednesday, December 23, 1998 at 2 p.m. from the
Chapel of
Cochran Funeral home of Blairsville with Rev. Leon Henderson and Rev.
Jimmy
Tanner officiating. Special music was
presented
by Ken and Elaine Young. The following
gentlemen served as pallbearers: Donald Weaver, Chris Fortenberry, Sam
Gentry,
Bretney Barnes, W.H. Hood, and Terry queen.
Mr. Kelley was eulogized by Mr. Bud Nichols.
Interment was in Blairsville City Cemetery.

Mr.
Billy J. Brewer, age 71, of Blairsville, Georgia passed away Saturday,
December
26, 1998 in Union General Hospital in Blairsville, Georgia. Mr. Brewer was born on Sunday, January 2,
1927, in Union County, Georgia, a son of the late Billy Brewer and Lula
Young Brewer. He was a lifelong resident
of this area and
was a member of Liberty Baptist Church.
Survivors
include his wife, Rita Sue Brewer, of the home; son Billy Brian brewer,
and
daughter, Kristi Nicole Brewer, both of Blairsville.
Many friends and other relatives also
survive.
Funeral
services were held Tuesday, December 29, 1998 at 2
p.m. from Liberty Baptist Church, with Rev. Jerry Helton and Rev. Tommy
Jones officiating. Special music was
presented by The Kelley
Trio. The following gentlemen served as
pallbearers: Jerry Brewer, Cecil Brewer, Bobby Warren, Michael Monkus,
Jerry
Cheek; and Alvin Dyer. Interment was in
the church cemetery.

Mrs.
Juanita Kelley, age 72, passed away Thursday, December 24, 1998 at her
home in
Branan Lodge early in the morning, quietly in her sleep.
Mrs. Kelley
was preceded in death by her parents: Arnold and Nell Butt. She was born in Union County, on February 3,
1926, and lived in Union County all of her life.
Mrs. Kelley
is survived by four children: Roger, Wayne, Opal Barnes, and Evelyn
Jones, all
of Blairsville; also surviving are eight grandchildren and 3 great
grandchildren. She is also survived by
seven sisters: Lucille Jordan, of Blairsville, Ruby Hyde of Dalton, GA,
Louise
Owenby of Blairsville, betty Patterson, of Dalton, GA, Pauline
Stephens, of
Blairsville, Barbara Coker, of Blairsville, and Claudine Souther of
Blairsville,
and one brother, Sammy Butt of Blairsville.
She was a
member of the Jones Creek Church of God.
Mrs. Kelley worked at the dress factory for a number of years. Then was employed at the shoe factory where
she was later retired. Mrs. Kelley
enjoyed working with her flowers in her yard and enjoyed sewing and
talking
with her many friends on the phone.
Funeral
services were held Saturday, December 26th, 1998 at 11 a.m. in the
Chapel of
Cochran Funeral Home. Special music was
presented
by Luther and Jane Sandodal with Hillary Kelley and Ken and Elaine
Young. Ministers were Rev. Tommy Jones,
Rev. Ray
Potts, and Rev. Terrell Jones. The
following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Donald Weaver, Ronnie Coker,
Chris
Fortenberry, Sam Gentry, Danny Owenby and Sammy Owenby.
Juanita’s
children know their mother’s love could only be measured by God’s love,
everlasting.
Interment was
in Union Memory Gardens, Cochran Funeral Home Blairsville in Charge of
arrangements.

Mr.
Gordon Schuknecht, age 66, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away
Saturday,
December 26, 1998 in Union County, Georgia.
Mr.
Schuknecht was born on Tuesday, August 9, 1932, in Allegany County, New
York, a
son of the late Kenneth and Laura Pike Schuknecht.
He has lived in this area for 18 years,
coming here form Williamsfield, Ohio.
Mr. Schuknecht was a local builder, and was retired form Coosa
Water
Authority. He also had been employed
with nelson’s Depot. Mr. Schuknecht was
an avid hunter and trapper and enjoyed woodworking.
He was a member of Liberty Hill Methodist
Church.
Survivors
include his wife, Betty, of the home; children: David Schuknecht of
Orwell,
Ohio; Becky Bullard, of Andover, Ohio; Stephen Schuknecht, of
Blairsville;
Susan Donaldson, of Gustavus, Ohio; and James “Willis” Schuknecht, of
Epworth,
Georgia; brother, Harry Schuknecht, of Portland, NY; mother in law,
Olive
Bennett, of Silver Springs, NY’ 15 grandchildren, 3 great
grandchildren, nieces
and nephews and other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral
services were held Tuesday, December 29, 1999 at 11
a.m. from Liberty Hill Methodist Church, with Rev. Juel Sealey
officiating. Special music was presented
by Mary Newton
and Teresa Ross. The following gentlemen
served as pallbearers: David and Jeremy Schuknecht, Joseph Donaldson,
Jason
Donaldson, Christopher Bullard, and Joel Schuknecht.
Grandchildren served as honorary escort to
the family. Interment was in the church
cemetery.

Mr.
Edmond Ervin Fortenberry, age 80, of Rydal, Georgia, formerly of
Blairsville,
Georgia, passed away Monday, December 28, 1998 in Kennestone Hospital
in
Marietta.
Mr.
Fortenberry was born on Wednesday, August 7, 1918 in Union County,
Georgia, a
son of the late Thomas Noah Fortenberry and Minnie Lee Potts
Fortenberry. He was a retired farmer and
had lived in
Rydal for the past 13 years, living most of his years in Union County. He was a member of Allegheny Masonic Lodge,
#114, F & AM, for over 25 years.
Survivors
include his wife, Betty Jo Everett Fortenberry, of Blairsville,
Daughter,
Frankie Carney, of Blairsville, daughter, Montine Burke, of Panama
City, FL.,
daughter, Myrtle Sedgwick, of Blairsville, son Donald Wilbur
Fortenberry, of
Blairsville, and son Bruce Ervin Fortenberry, of Calhoun, Georgia,
Sister in
law, Annette Everett, of powder Springs, Georgia, sister, Bennie Lee
Brown, of
Blairsville, and brother. W.D> Fortenberry, of Dahlonega, Georgia,
18
grandchildren 19 great grandchildren, along with many friends and other
relatives.
Funeral
services were held Thursday, December 31, 1998 at 2
p.m. from Coosa Methodist Church with Rev. Horace Potts and rev. Tommy
Jones officiating. Special music was
presented by The Faith
Singers. Members of The Allegheny
Masonic Lodge #114, F&AM served as pallbearers: Terry Rogers, Jim
Allison,
Johnny Burnette, Tim Heard, Dennis Garrett, and wade Smith. Other masons served as honorary escort and
the lodge members also presented Masonic rites.
Interment was in the Coosa Methodist Church Cemetery.

Mrs.
Thelma Mae Nelson Fair, age 91, of Blairsville passed away Wednesday,
December
16, 1998 at her home. Mrs. Fair was born
January 1, 1907 the daughter of john Festus and Martha Lee Berry Nelson
in
Union Count. She was a member of Zebulon
Baptist Church and had lived most of her life in Union County. She was preceded in death by her husband,
James Robert “Bob” Fair; a son, Johnny Richard “Dick” Fair; a grandson,
Brent
Hollaran; and a granddaughter, Carolyn Fair.
Survivors
include: Son and Daughter in law, Robert M and Patricia Fair of
Acworth, GA;

Mr. Andrew Weldon Martin, age 81, of Blairsville,
Georgia, formerly of Gainesville, passed away Friday, January 1, 1999.
Mr. Martin
was a native of Fulton County, and was a retired Post Office employee. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, and
served during World war II. Mr. Martin
had lived in Gainesville from 1972, until 1987, and then he moved to
Blairsville. Prior to 1872, he had
resided in Atlanta. Mr. Martin was a
member of Coosa United Methodist church, a member of the Mason,
Gainesville
Lodge, #219; a member of the local Chapters of NARFE and AARP. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sarah
Jobson Martin, in 1994.
Surviving
are his son, Michael Weldon Martin, of Lilburn; daughters, Karen
Martin, of
Blairsville and Susan Taylor, of Buford, GA; brothers, Lindsey Martin
of
Conyers and Don Martin of Stone Mountain; sister, Jane King of Stone
Mountain;
7 grandchildren survive.
Memorial
services were schedule for Wednesday, January 6,
1999 at 1 p.m. from Coosa United Methodist Church with Rev. Earl Bishop
officiating.

Mrs.
Marguerite Elizabeth Pearson Katsch, age 87, of Leicester, NC, formerly
of
Blairsville and Brannan Lodge, passed away Thursday, December 31, 1998
in
Asheville, NC.
Mrs.
Kitsch, a native of Cleveland, Ohio, had lived in Blairsville from 1974
until
1996, at which that time she moved to be closer to her son. She was a member of the First United
Methodist Church of Union County and was a former businesswoman, having
owned a
dress shop in Blairsville. Mrs. Katsch
had also been a member of the Union General Hospital Auxiliary. She was preceded in death by her husband,
James Edgar Katsch, Sr., in 1997.
Survivors
include her son, James Edgar kitsch, Jr. of Leicester, NC; daughter,
Marguerite
Webb of Greenville, NC; 4 grandchildren, Timothy Charles Katsch, James
Aaron
Katsch, Kris Spangler and Anne Britt, and 4 great grandchildren, Beth
Spangler,
Denny Spangler, Tiffany Nicole Katsch and Megan Katsch.

services were held Saturday, January 2, 1999 at 2

Mr.
Ray H. Sales, age 54, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Wednesday,
December
30, 1998 following an extended illness.
Mr. Sales was a lifelong resident of this area and was a member
of the
Hickory Stand Methodist Church in Brasstown, NC. Ray
was born October 25, 1944 in Cherokee
County, NC the son of Wallace and Bertha Johnson Sales.
He has worked for the Blue Ridge Mountain
Electric Membership Corporation for the past 23 years.
Ray was also an avid sportsman.
Survivors
include his wife, JoAnn Sales of the home; mother, Bertha Sales of
Lenoir City,
TN; daughter and son in law, Tracey and Bobby King, of Blairsville;
daughter,
Kim Sales, of Blairsville; brother and sister in law, Jack and Bettye
Sales of
Lilburn, GA.; grandson, Heath King and granddaughter, Hallye King, both
of
Blairsville. Many other relatives and
friends also survive.
Funeral
services were scheduled Friday, January 1, 1999 at 2
p.m. from the Blairsville First Baptist Church with Rev. Danny Parris
and Rev.
B.A. Buchanan officiating.
Music was
presented by the First Baptist Church Quartet and
Mrs. Elizabeth Plott. The following
gentlemen served as pallbearers: Jim McAfee, Gerald Nelson, David
Conley,
Curtis Young, Mike Kelley and Morris Mashburn.
Men of the Blue Ridge Mountain RMC acted as honorary escort. Interment was in the Union Memory Gardens
Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family
