mrs. donna jeannine west corn

 

Mrs. Donna Jeannine West Corn, age 50 of Frank Corn Cove, Blairsville and also of Hayesville, passed away on Sunday, January 4, 2004 in the Union General Hospital following an extended illness.

Mrs. Corn was born on November 23, 1953 in Murphy, NC, the daughter of Wanda Pagel West and the late Harold West.  She was a lifelong resident of both Union County, GA and Clay County, NC.  She had been employed with the North Georgia News for several years.  Donna was a very loving and caring mother, wife, daughter and sister and a friend to all who knew her.  Mrs. Corn was a member of the Shiloh Baptist Church of Hayesville.

Surviving Mrs. Corn are her loving husband, Bill Corn of Blairsville; mother, Wanda West of Blairsville; two sons, Robert Shannon Swanson of Hayesville and Bradley Scott Swanson of Hayesville; one brother and sister-in-law, Kenneth and Liz West of Blairsville; two grandchildren, Ariel Lancaster and Keely Allen, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, January 6, 2004 at 11 a.m. from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Wofford Kelley and Rev. Danny Moss officiating.  Special music was presented by the Kelley trio and Pam McCray.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers, Matt Smith, Daniel Ledford, matt Triplett, Kevin Conaster, Moe Buckner and Doug Martin.  Interment followed in the Rich Cemetery.

mrs. lois r. reazak

 

Mrs. Lois R. Reazak, age 98, of Blairsville, GA., died Monday, December 29, 2003 in Union County Nursing Home.

Mrs. Reazak was born April 25, 1905, in Emmetsburg, Iowa, a daughter of the late Ernest James and Florence Helen (White) Wilcox.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford B. Reazak  Both Mr. and Mrs. Reazak were residents of Charles City until young adults, when they moved to Minnesota where they built a resort in the Leach lake area, later living in Florida where they were with the Tampa Recreation Department for many years, teaching and calling square dances.  They were well known internationally for their work in recreation.

Survivors include one step-daughter, Sharon Scoles of Nashua, IA; a sister, Helen E. Walsh of Decatur, GA; four grandchildren; a great grandchild and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Reazak was very busy until her death.  Cremation followed.

Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville, GA., was in charge of arrangements.

mr. ignatuis “iggy” Puccio

 

Mr. Ignatuis (better known as Iggy) Puccio, age 68 of Blairsville, GA passed away on Saturday 3, 2004 at his home.

Iggy was born on June 6, 1935 in New York, NY, the son of the late Phillip Puccio and Angelina Puccio.  Following a move to Andrews, NC, in 1980, Iggy and his devoted late wife Peggy established Aldo’s, the first fine dining restaurant in the Murphy, NC area.  Iggy and Beverly were instrumental in establishing Unity Church of the Mountains in Blairsville.

Surviving Mr. Puccio are his wife, Beverly Puccio of Blairsville; mother, Mrs. Phillip Puccio; three children, Lenore Perrone, Steven Puccio and Patricia Dunn all of Murphy, NC; stepson, Michael Smith of Orlando, FL; two brothers, Phillip and wife Joanie Puccio, Anthony and wife Lorraine Puccio all of NY; nine grandchildren, Casey, Jesse, Bradley, Alexa and Megan Puccio, Cataldo, Anthony and Christina Perrone and Kamryn Dunn; mother-in-law, Beverly Moore and an aunt Peggy Tryon both of Winter Park, FL.  Many other relatives and friends also survive.

A celebration of life service will be held on Thursday, January 8, 2004 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home chapel with Rev. Kathleen-Claire McKevitt officiating.  In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials may be made to Unity Church of the Mountains Church Building fund in Iggy’s memory.

mr. robert e. patterson

 

Mr. Robert E. Patterson, age 81, of Blairsville, GA, dies Saturday, January 3, 2004 at Union General Hospital.

Mr. Patterson was born, September 17, 1922, in Union County, a son of the late Arvil and Bessie (Weaver) Patterson.  He was a WWII U.S. Army Air Force Veteran, and a member of the Blairsville Christian Center.  He was preceded in death by son Tony Patterson.

Surviving are his wife, Sarah Nell Patterson of Blairsville, GA; son & daughter-in-law, Robert and Susan Patterson of Dacula, GA; daughter & son-in-law, Barbara and Bill Evans of Neptune Beach, FL; brothers, Bruce Patterson and Larry Patterson of Blairsville, GA, Conard Patterson of Morganton, GA, Roy Patterson of Blue Ridge, GA and Billy Patterson of Ball Ground, GA; sisters, Roselle Arp of Mineral Bluff, GA and Sara Hutson of Marietta, GA; grandchildren, Lisa Boley, Nicole Evans, Russ Paterson and Courtney Patterson; great grandchildren, Rachel Boley and Ryan Boley.

Funeral services were held Monday, January 5, 2004 at 11 a.m. at te chapel of Cochran Funeral Home with Rev. Wofford Kelley officiating.  Music was by the Kelley Trio.  Pallbearers were Bruce Patterson, Roy Patterson, Russ Patterson, Jeff Patterson, Billy Patterson and Jim Conley.  Honorary pallbearers were Larry Patterson and Conard Patterson.  Burial was in Union Memory Gardens.  Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville was in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Joyce Madline McGaha, age 73, of Pat. Colwell Road in Blairsville passed away on Friday, January 2, 2004 in the Chatuge Nursing Home following an extended illness.  Mrs. McGaha was born on October 24, 1930 in Ducktown, Tennessee, the daughter of the late Hoel Weaver and the late Ora Coleman Weaver.  Mrs. McGaha was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving Mrs. McGaha are her loving husband of twenty nine years, Fred McGaha of Blairsville; three sons, Roger Dale Weaver of Blairsville; Richard Johnson of Cumming, Georgia, Harold Johnson of Florida; one daughter, Donna Weaver of Hiawassee; four step-daughters, Minnie Williams, Mary Weaver, Susie Cheek and Alice Ballard; one step-son, Freddie McGaha, all of Blairsville; sixteen grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Sunday, January 4, 2004 at 11:00 am from the Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jimmy Rogers and Rev. Bill Dyer officiating.  Special music was presented by Sue Epperson and Charles Matheson.  The following gentlemen served as Pallbearers, Tony Worley, Joseph Dinatale, Michael Colwell, Russell Weaver, James Metzeldorf, Joe Williams, Amos Williams and Joe Williams II.  Interment followed in the Valley Town Cemetery in Andrews, NC.

Mr. Junior Carl (better known as J.C.) Chastain, age 73, of Tanyard Court in Blairsville passed away on Thursday, January 1, 2004 following an extended illness.  Mr. Chastain was born on September 2, 1930 in Cherokee County, NC, the son of the late Carl Chastain and the late Alcie Cole Chastain.  He was a lifelong resident of Union County.  Mr. Chastain was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving Mr. Chastain are five daughters and three sons-in-law, Wanda and Bill Allen of Blairsville, Diana and Larry Cox of Blue Ridge, Donna Kay and Raymond Killian of Blairsville, Brenda Wimpy of Young Harris, Darlene Herr of Young Harris; nine grandchildren, Sharon Wimpy, Michael Hughes, Misty Teague, Rusty Cox, Bridget Anderson, Meghan Herr, Chris Killian, Crystal Killian and B.J. DeBra; five great-grandchildren, McKena Killian, Jabob Anderson, Joseph Hughes, Natalie Teague and Cheyenne Ramey; many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Sunday, January 4, 2004 at 2:00 pm from Mountain View Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ray Harper officiating.  Special music was presented by The Faith Singers.  The following gentlemen served as Pallbearers, Burl Chastain, Tim Odom, Jerry Martin, Jerry Ballew, Ray Long and Kevin Teague.  Serving as Honorary Pallbearers were L.H. Towe and Charles Worden.  Interment followed in the Martins Creek Cemetery.

alma townsend cordell

 

            Mrs. Alma Townsend Cordell, age 97, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Wednesday, December 24, 2003 in Union County Nursing Home in Blairsville.

            Mrs. Cordell was born in Towns County, Georgia on Tuesday, December 4, 1906, a daughter of the late John Townsend and Inda Howell Townsend.  She was a homemaker and member of Bellview Methodist Church.  Her husband, David Cordell, passed away in 1979.

            Surviving are step-daughters, Minnie Cordell Ownbey and Nita Cordell Foster, both of Blairsville; three nieces, Marie Beckworth and Ernestine McDuffie, of Marietta, and Barbara Pass of Columbus, Georgia; nephew, Charles Erwin of Young Harris; a sister, Thelma Harris, of Blairsville; seven step-grandchildren and nine great grandchildren also survive, along with many other relatives and friends.

            Funeral services were held Saturday, December 27, 2003 at 11:00 am from the chapel of Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville with rev. pat Miller and Rev. Tom Barney officiating.  Special music was presented by R. Terry Hooper and James Hooper.  The following gentlemen served as Pallbearers: Tim Odom, Steve Foster, Roger Ownbey, Charles Erwin, Ken Beckworth, Gene McDuffie, James Pass and Don Rogers.  Burial was in the Old Union Baptist Church Cemetery.

            Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville was entrusted by the family for the arrangements.
