Mrs.
Marie
D. “Mom” Hill, age 86, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Sunday, December 29, 1996 in
Union General Hospital.
Mrs. Hill
was born March 24, 1910, in Union County, Georgia,
a daughter of the late Solomon A. Deaver and Amanda Carolina Chastain
Deaver. She was a lifelong resident of
this
area, a member of Antioch Baptist church, the Union County Retired
Teacher’s
Association, The Alpha Delta Sorority, and the Union County Historical
Society. Mrs. Hill had spent 50 years
with the Union General hospital Auxiliary and was a graduate of Young
Harris
College and North Georgia College. Mrs.
Hill was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Marshall Hill in
1965.
Surviving
are a daughter, Jimmie C. Hill, of Atlanta; son and daughter in law,
Julian
“Bo” Hill and Jo Hill of Ringgold, Georgia, and son and daughter in
law, C.
Gary and Paulette Hill of griffin, GA; a brother, Earl Deaver, of
Blairsville,
and a sister in law, Charlsie Deaver of Blairsville; four
grandchildren:
Amanda, Julie and Travis Hill and Traci Chambers; great granddaughter,
Haley
Chambers; several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral
services were held Monday, December 30, 1996 at 3 p.m. from Antioch
Baptist
Church with Rev. Bill Gowder officiating.
Special music was presented by Martha Cone and Patsy Davenport. The following gentlemen served as
pallbearers: Jimmy Deaver, Joe Deaver, Wendell Rich, Bruce Gray,
Elliott Hill,
and Bud Hill,.
Serving
as honorary escort to the family was members of the Union General
Hospital
Auxiliary. In lieu of flowers, the
family suggests memorials be made to the Antioch Baptist Church
Building fund
(sic), The Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, or the Union General
Hospital
Auxiliary.

Mr. Mary
Klassen, 69, of Harrison, Tennessee, passed away Wednesday, December
25, 1996
in Memorial Hospital in Chattanooga, TN.
Mrs.
Klassen was born in Union County, Georgia, on November
20, 1927 a daughter of the late William Henderson and Onnie Smith
Henderson. She was a native of Union
County, but lived most of her life in Chattanooga.
Mrs. Klassen was preceded in death by her
husband, Thomas Edward Klassen. She was
of the Baptist Faith.
Surviving are a son, Ricky Klassen,
of Harrison, TN; four sisters:
Susie Cordell, Nina Bible, Maxine Sims and Regina Morgan.
(sic) All of
Chattanooga; four
brothers: Don Henderson, Randall Henderson, and Fletcher Henderson, all
of
Blairsville, and Ray Henderson, of Chattanooga; nieces and nephews also
survive.
Funeral
services were held Saturday, December 28, 1996, at 1 p.m. from the
chapel of
the funeral home with Rev. R. Martin officiating. Special
music was presented by the Faith
Singers. The following gentlemen served
as pallbearers: David Turnbill, Mike Ferguson, Link
Klassen, brad Hailstone, Edward Mashburn, and Richard Mashburn. Interment was in Ebenezer Baptist Church
Cemetery.

Rev.
Emerson Iles, 77, Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Friday, December
27, 1996
at his home.
Rev, Iles
was born in Hocking County, Ohio, on January 29,m
1919, a son of the late John Clifford Iles and Hattie
Blosser Iles. He had lived in this area
since 1983, coming here from Florida.
Rev. Iles was a minister in the Methodist Church for forty years
in the
Ohio and Florida conferences.
Surviving
are his wife, Mrs. Ellen Iles, of Blairsville; daughter, Elaine Lykins,
of
Clearwater, Florida; daughter, Patricia Kerr, of Hiawassee, GA; son,
Clifford
Iles, of Shipley, FL; and daughter, Paula Lobetti, of Clearwater, FL;
sister,
Fern Thomas of Logan, Ohio; and brother Harry Iles, of St. Clairsville,
OH;
fifteen grandchildren, and ten great grandchildren also survive.
Funeral
services were held Sunday, December 29, 1996 at 2 p.m. from the chapel
of
Cochran Funeral Home in Blairsville with Rev. Cliff Rigby officiating. The following gentlemen served as
pallbearers: Jim Lykins, Wayne Bryson,
David Kerr, bobby Kerr, and Matthew Gilbert.
Interment was in Union memory Gardens Cemetery.

Mrs.
Louis Regina Allis, 73, of Blairsville, GA, passed away Thursday,
December 26,
1996 at her home.
Mrs.
Allis was born in Suffolk County, Massachusetts, on
November 25, 1932, a daughter of the late Herbert Hewitt and Margaret
Durgin
Hewitt. Mrs. Allis had lived in this
area since 1982, coming here from Miramar, Florida.
She was of the Episcopalian Faith.
Surviving
are her husband, Donald B. Allis, of Blairsville; daughter, Denise
Fransen, of
Rochester, NH; sons, Andrew Devito, of Las Vegas, NV, and David Devito,
also of
Las Vegas; and Kenneth Devito, of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; brother, Herbert
Hewitt,
of Redding, Massachusetts; eleven grandchildren, and several other
relatives also
survive.

Mrs.
Bonnie
K. Fortenberry, age 88, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Saturday,
December
28, 1996 in Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville, GA.
Mrs.
Fortenberry was born in Towns County, Georgia, on March
30, 1908 a daughter of the late Frank Kirby and Louisa Burns Kirby. She was a lifelong resident of this area and
was preceded in death by her husband, Garnie Fortenberry, and a son,
Robert
Fortenberry. Mrs. Fortenberry was a
member of Old Liberty Baptist Church.
Surviving
are daughters, Mary Ruth Garrett, Barbara Everett, and Betty Turner,
all of
Blairsville; sons, earl Fortenberry of Hiawassee, and Claxton
Fortenberry, of
Blairsville; fourteen
grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren also
survive.
Funeral
services were held Tuesday, December 31, 1996 at 11 a.m. from the
chapel of the
Cochran Funeral Home
of Blairsville with Rev. Jerry Young officiating.
