velma elizabeth gilmer

 

Mrs. Velma Elizabeth Gilmer, age 96, of Fern Valley Lane, Blairsville, formerly of Fredrick, MD passed away on Thursday, Jan. 4, 2007 in the Union General Hospital following an extended illness.  Mrs. Gilmer was born on March 18, 1910 in Fredrick, OK, the daughter of the late J.D. Laney and the late Olie Lawerence Lancy.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Elvis Gilmer in 1969, and also by five brothers, three sisters and a half brother.  Mrs. Gilmer was a member of South End Baptist Church in Fredrick, OK.

Surviving Mrs. Gilmer are one son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Linda Gilmer of Fredrick, MD, one sister, Ruth Forsberg of San Diego, CA, two grandchildren, lacy Gilmer and Kevin Gilmer, both of Fredrick, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Graveside services will be held on Wednesday Jan. 10, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. from the El Camino Memorial Cypress View Chapel in San Diego, CA.  Following the services she will be laid to rest beside her husband.

j.m. wilkins

 

Mr. J.M. Wilkins, age 84, of Suches, GA, died Saturday, December 30, 2006 at the Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga, TN following a brief illness.  Mr. Wilkins was a native of Union County, GA.  He lived in Detroit, MI for nearly 40 years before he retired from General Motors and returned to his native home place where he lived the last 30 years of his life.  He was the son of John M. and Mary Jane Woody Wilkins.  He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Betty Jones; grandson, Ronnie Wilkins; brothers, Carl, Fletcher, and L.N. Wilkins; sisters, Dora Ingram, Estelle Garrett, Ora Woody, Cora Long, Atrice Woody, Maybelle Gooch, Gladys Wilkins, Mattie Garcia, Sara Long, and Julie Seabolt.

Mr. Wilkins is survived by his wife, Lillie Mae “Mickie” Wilkins; sons and daughters-in-law, Nathan Wilkins of Washington, MI, Edward and Karen Wilkins of Almont, MI, Harvey and Dorothy Wilkins of Clayton Township, MI, Ronald and DeAnne Wilkins of Mt. Clemens, MI; daughters and son-in-law, Karen and Riff Skeihk of Warren, MI, Priscilla Jones of Sautee, GA, Margaret Graham of Roseville, MI; twenty-seven grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren, and a number of other relatives also survive.

          Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Thursday, January 4, 2007 at the Banister Funeral Home Chapel in Dahlonega, GA with Rev. Danny Oliver, Rev. Floyd Jones, and Ronald Townley officiating.  Interment followed in the Woody Cemetery in Union County.  The family received friends at the funeral home on Tuesday and Wednesday evening from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m.  In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Liberty Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 1006, Dawsonville, GA 30534.

robert c. phinney

 

            Mr. Robert C. Phinney, age 77, of Blairsville formerly of Ft. Myers, FL passed away on Saturday, January 6, 2007 in the Union General Hospital following a brief illness.  Mr. Phinney was born on February 26, 1928 in West lake, OH; the son of the late Calvin Phinney and the late Nettie Koch Phinney.  He was a farmer for over twenty-five years and was also a Fireman for over ten years.  Mr. Phinney was a member of the All Saints Lutheran Church.

            Surviving Mr. Phinney are his loving wife of fifty-one years, Georgene Bender Phinney of Blairsville; daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Joe Clark of Ft. Myers, FL; son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Pam Phinney of Young Harris, GA; son and daughter-in-law, Timm and Jodi Phinney of Corvallis, MT; daughter and son-in-law, Christi and Billy Hart of Ft. Myers, FL; five grandchildren, Tiffany, Ryan, Ericka, Gretchen and Lairen; one great-grandchild, Laci, and many other relatives and friends also survive.

            Funeral services were held on Friday, January 12, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. from the All Saints Lutheran Church with pastor Dave Wesche officiating.  Special music was presented by the All Saints Church Choir.  Interment followed in the Union memory Gardens Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to the All Saints Lutheran Church in Mr. Phinney’s memory.  The family met with friends at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 6-8pm.
