Mrs.
Elsie
Jarrard Grizzle, 77, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Thursday,
December
28, 1995 at her home.
Mrs.
Grizzle was born in Lumpkin County, Georgia, a daughter
of the late Charlie Jarrard and Betsy Baker Jarrard.
She was a lifelong resident of this area and
was a member of the Macedonia Baptist Church, and was attending Corinth
Baptist
Church. Mrs. Grizzle was preceded in
death by her husband, Clifford Grizzle, in 1979.
Survivors
are: daughter, Mary “Susie” Rester, of Blairsville; son, James H.
Grizzle, of
Canton, OH, sisters - Carrie Moose and Virginia Burnette, both of
Suches, GA;
granddaughters - Christy Lynn Turnage, of Franklinton, LA, Susan
Lumpkin and
Jammie W. Rester, both of Blairsville, Dede Grizzle and Kim R.
Talkington, both
of Canton, OH; grandson, Greg Grizzle of Canton, OH; great grandsons,
Shelly
Turnage, Mickey Turnage, Wesley Lumpkin; and great granddaughter, Megan
Talkington.
Funeral
services were held Sunday, December 31, 1995 at 2 p.m., from Corinth
Baptist
Church with Reverend Willis Garrett and Reverend Horace Potts
officiating. Music was presented by the
Suches Community
Choir. The following gentlemen served as
pallbearers: Greg Grizzle, Johnny Cantrell, J.M. Grizzle, Aaron Turner,
garland
Moose, and Kenneth Grizzle. Interment was
in the church cemetery.
In lieu of
flowers, the family respectfully requests memorials be
made to the American Cancer Society.

Mr.
Robert
Gary Waldrop, 41, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away unexpectedly at
his home
on Tuesday, December 26, 1995.
Mr.
Waldrop was born in Henderson County, North Carolina, on
December 11, 1954. He had lived in the
Blairsville area for the past four years, coming here from Port S.
Joe.,
Florida. Mr. Waldrop was preceded in
death by his father, William Roten Waldrop in 1966, and his brother,
William
Roger Waldrop, in 1971.
Surviving
are his mother, Mary Frances Cagle Waldrop, of Flat Rock, North
Carolina;
sisters, Judith Purdee, and Patricia Waldrop, both of Flat Rock; Brenda
Glover,
of East Flat Rock; brothers: Martin Waldrop an Thomas Waldrop, both of
Hendersonville, NC; and Harold Waldrop, of Greensboro, North Carolina;
nieces
and nephews and other relatives also survive.
A memorial
service was held Sunday, January 7, 1996 from the Upward Worship Center
on
Jackson Loop Road in Flat Rock with Rev. Norman Bayne officiating.

Mrs.
Alma Elsbeth Braun, 85, of Blairsville, Georgia, and Miami, Florida,
passed
away Sunday, December 31, 1995 at her home.
Mrs.
Braun was a native of Latvia, and had lived part time
in the Blarisville area since 1994. She
was of the Protestant faith. Mrs. Braun
is survived by her husband, Mr. Joseph Anphony Braun.

Mr.
Raymond
L. Duncan, 90, of Blairsville, Georgia, formerly of Maryville,
Tennessee,
passed away Saturday, December 30, 1995, in Union General Hospital in
Blairsville.
Mr.
Duncan was born in Mississippi on April 5, 1905 a son of
the late Joseph Duncan and Clara Belle Sisk Duncan.
He had lived in Maryville for many years
before moving to Blairsville. Mr. Duncan
was a member of the Broadway Methodist Church in Maryville.
Survivors
include his wife, Mrs. Ella F. Duncan, of Blairsville; daughter, Billie
Jennings of Chattanooga, Tennessee; son Raymond Terrell Duncan, of
Victorville,
California; and daughter, Glenda Haney, of Blairsville.
Five grandchildren and eight great
grandchildren also survive.
Funeral
services were held Tuesday, January 2, 1996 at 2:00 PM from Hillside
Memorial Gardens chapel (sic) with Rev. Jerald Parker
officiating. Grandsons and great grandsons
served as
pallbearers. Interment was in Hamilton
Memorial Gardens.

mr. matthew valentine swerzynski
Mr.
Matthew
Valentine Swerzynski, 73, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away January
1, 1996
in Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville.
Mr.
Swerzynski was born January 24, 1922, in Bridgeport,
Connecticut, a son of the late Dominick Swierczynski, and Stanislawa
Zuzelska
Swierczynski. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and served during World War II. Mr. Swerzynski had lived in this area since
May of 1995, coming here from Beacon, New York.
He was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church.
Surviving
are his wife, Mary V. Swerzynski, of the home; three step daughters:
Joan
Winters, of Blairsville; Estelle Higgins, of Johnstown, New York; and
Marie
Stropolli, of Highland, New York; brother, Stanley Swerzynski, of
Richmond,
California, and sister, Jeanie Lipinski, of San Francisco, California;
seven
grandchildren also survive.

was held Wednesday, January 3, 1996 at 11:00 AM from St. Francis of
Assisi
Catholic Church with Father Patrick Donaghey officiating.

Mr. Jesse
T. Mayo of Blairsville, Georgia passed away on December 20, 1995 at
Union County
General Hospital in Blairsville, Georgia.
He was
born at Chattaroy in Mingo County, State of West
Virginia on July 20, 1926 the son of Jess Mayo and Dorce Frazier, who
preceded
him in death.
Burial was
in the McGuire Cemetery, Hitchins, Kentucky.
There were no services at his request.
After
retiring from Navistar International Corporation, he
moved to Blarisville, Georgia. He was a
fisherman, hunter and photographer who loved nature and Georgia.
He is
survived by several half-brothers, a niece, numerous
cousins and a step-daughter. During his
lifetime, he made many items, such as Turkey Callers and knives, and
was a
craftsman in his own.
He is
sadly missed by all those who knew him as well as a
very special couple, Mr. and Mrs. Peter Schultze of Blairsville,
Georgia.

Mrs. Bess
Mauney Conley, age 90, of Mauney Road, Blairsville, passed away
Thursday
January 4, 1996 in Union General Hospital.
Mrs. Conley was born June 17, 1905 in Union County to Charles
and Theodocia
Carroll Mauney. She had been a school
teacher for many years and was active in both the Union County
Historical
Society and the Union County Retired Teachers Association.
Mrs. Conley was a member of Antioch Baptist
Church. She was preceeded (sic) in death
by her husband, Doyce Conley, December 20, 1994.
Bess is
survived by two sisters, Johnnie Mauney Gladson of Murphy, North
Carolina and
Minnie Mauney Teague of Blairsville.
Several nieces, nephews and a host of friends also survive.
Funeral services
were held Saturday, January 6, 1996 at 2:00 PM from Antioch Baptist
church with
Rev. Billy Rabern and rev. Bill Gowder officiating.
Music was provided by Mrs. Martha
Davenport. Interment was in the Antioch
Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers,
memorials
may be made to Antioch Baptist Church.

Mrs. Mary
Griffin, age 82, of 4522 Piney Grove Lane, Cumming, Georgia, died
Sunday,
January 7, 1996 at the parkway Medical Center in Lithia Springs,
Georgia,
following a short illness.
Mrs.
Griffin was a native of White County who had lived in
Union county most of her life. She had
lived in Forsyth County for the past eight years. She
was a homemaker and was a member of Zion
Baptist Church In Union County. She attended North Lanier Baptist Church in
Cumming, Georgia.
Survivors
include: three daughters; Mrs. Viola Gilbert, Mrs. Eary Bell Campbell,
both of
Cumming, Georgia and Mrs. Elaine Gober of Dawsonville, Georgia; sons:
Mr.
Clinton Griffin and Mr. Jerry Griffin both of Cumming, Georgia; sister:
Mrs.
Mary Popham, of Cumming, Georgia; brother: Mr. Fate Tow, of Suches,
Georgia;
twelve grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and several other
relatives
also survive.
Funeral
services are scheduled for 2:00 PM Wednesday, January 10, 1996 at the
Banister
Funeral Home Chapel in Dahlonega with Rev. Harold Evans officiating. Interment will follow in the Zion Baptist
Church Cemetery in Union County.
