Mr.
Fred
Houston Poteet, age 58, of Blue Ridge Hwy, Blairsville, passed away,
Monday,
January 2, 2012 at his home following an extended illness. Fred was born December 29, 1953 in
Chattanooga, TN. He was a U.S. Army
Veteran. He moved here in 1992. Fred was preceded in death by his father,
Raymond Poteet and a son, Justin Poteet in 1992. He
was a member of Youngstown Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Gail Poteet of Blairsville, mother, Pauline
Driggins of Hixon, TN, daughter and son-in-law, Becka and Tim Hamilton
of
Blairsville, Carly Poteet of Gainesville, GA, brothers, Paul and Julie
Poteet
of Palm Beach, FL, Bill and Kathy Hixon of Dayton, TN, Jim and Deborah
Hixon of
Hixon, TN, Mike and Diane Poteet of Etowah, TN, brothers-in-law and
sisters-in-law, Terry and Glenda White of Chattanooga, TN, Larry and
Diane
Blanks of Fayetteville, GA, grandchildren, Cody Short, Peyton Hamilton,
Makenzie Randolph and Braylon Randolph, many nieces, nephews, relatives
and
friends also survive.
Memorial services were held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, January 4, 2012 at
Mountain
View Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jonathan Hood officiating. Music was by Becka, Cody and Tim. Honorary
Pallbearers were co-workers of
Colwell PDC. In lieu of flowers make
memorials to Glenda Gooch Foundation. The
family received friends at the funeral home from 1 until 2 p.m.

Mrs.
Amelia
Edith St. Dennis, age 89, of Wesley Mtn. Dr., Blairsville, passed away
Sunday, January
8, 2012, at Union General Hospital. Mrs.
St. Dennis was born May 25, 1922 in Plattsburgh, NY, the daughter of
Edmond and
Ada Attwell Weatherwax. She had lived
here since 1993. She was involved in all
the social activities at Branan Lodge, Line Dancing, led exercises at
the Lodge
(sic). Mrs. St. Dennis was a member of
St. Francis of Assisi Catholic and was very devoted to her church where
she was
a member of the Women’s Guild. She was
preceded in death by her husband, George St. Dennis, and sisters,
Lillian
Kaelin and Dorothy Ryan.
Survivors include four children, Gary and Donna St. Dennis of Knob
Noster, MO,
Gayle and Jack Wilson of Plattsburg, NY, Joie and Joe Wessendorf of
Sandy, UT
and Richard and Mary St. Dennis of N. Ft. Myers, FL, sister, Thelma and
Steve
Bianchi of Apollo Beach, FL, 9 grandchildren, Marnie Shore, Jennifer
Giambruno,
Anthony Giambruno, Brian St. Dennis, Jamie St. Dennis, Heather St.
Dennis,
Gretchen Massey, Gabrielle Schafer and Laventeena St. Dennis, 13 great
grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews
and many
other relatives and friends.
A Memorial Mass will be held Wednesday, January 11, 2012 at 10 a.m. at
St.
Francis of Assisi with Father Arturo officiating. Cantor
will be Beth Berger. Music will be by Ron
Goucher. Interment will follow at
Riverside Cemetery
in Plattsburgh, NY. In lieu of flowers
make memorials to St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. The
family will receive friends at the church
following the service.

Mr. Billy
Ray
Ledford, age 68, of Blairsville, GA, passed away Monday, January 2,
2012, in
Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta, GA.
Billy was
born in
Hayesville, NC, on September 12, 1943, a son of the late Adam William
Ledford
and the late Ethel Coker Ledford. He had
lived in Acworth, GA for 36 years, and then moved to Blairsville where
he had
lived for the past 6 years. Billy was a
member of Day of Grace Baptist Church in Blairsville. He
loved the outdoors, and enjoyed hunting,
fishing, and skiing. He loved his
family, especially his grandchildren.
Bill will
be greatly
missed by all who knew him, but especially his family: loving wife,
Kathey, of
Blairsville; daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Richard Rice, of
Holly
Springs, GA; son, Billy Scott Ledford, of Acworth, GA; and son, Cody
Ledford,
of Blairsville; brother and sister-in-law: Carroll and Carol Ann
Ledford, of
Clyde, NC; sisters and brothers-in-law: Mary and Louis Cook and Martha
and
Ralph Berrong, all of Hayesville, NC; Pat and Steve Nowland, of
Hiawassee;
Margaret and Boyd Ledford, Jr., of Hayesville; and sister, Ginger
Henderson, of
Blairsville; grandchildren, Sara Rice, Katelyn Rice, and Grace Rice. Many other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral
services for
Bill were held on Thursday, January 5, 2012, at 2 p.m., in the Chapel
of
Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville, with Rev. Jeremy Henderson and
Rev. Steve
Clayton officiating. Special music for
the service was presented by The Faith Singers. The
following gentlemen served as pallbearers:
Ross Wright, Stacy Hutchins, Richard Rice, Will Wright, Wesley McClure,
and Jesse
Flint. Serving as honorary escort to the
family was Hank McClure. Burial was in
Ebenezer Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation
at the funeral home was held on Wednesday, after 6 pm.

Mr.
William “Bill” Palmer Shubert, age 58, of Bunker Hill Drive,
Blairsville,
passed away, Monday, January 2, 2012 at Union General Hospital after a
brief
illness. Bill was born August 15, 1953
in Ft. Belvour, VA son of the late James and Juanita Russell Shubert. He had lived in this area for the past 30
years. He loved riding motorcycles and
building things. Bill was preceded in
death by a daughter, Ashley Shubert in 2009. He attended New Hope
Baptist
Church.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth Shubert of Blairsville, children,
James
Shubert, JR and his fiancé, Jasmine Jones of Blairsville, Angie and
D.J.
DeJoseph of Blairsville, Billie and Jeff Daniel of Blairsville,
brother, James
Shubert of Daytona, FL, sisters, Judith Shubert of Daytona, FL and

Abrams of Daytona, FL, grandchildren, Dillion Shubert, Josh Daniel,

Daniel, Kenndy Daniel, Bailey Daniel, Madison Garrett, Ally Jo Shubert,

Shubert, Madison Snow, and baby boy Shubert.
Funeral services were held Friday, January 6, 2012 at 5 p.m. at

Mr.
Gary
"GT" Wayne Tinsley, age 61 of Blairsville, GA, passed away, January 6,
2012 at his home after a short battle with cancer. Gary was born
May 18,
1950 in Odessa, TX, the son of Dorothy Smith. He was raised
in Doraville, GA by the late William and Anna Tinsley whom
where Mom
and Dad to him.
Gary
loved his Georgia Bulldogs and the Atlanta Braves. He was a huge
NASCAR
fan watching the races on tv or loved going to watch the races
at Atlanta Motor Speedway.
Gary
worked in law enforcement for the cities of Chamblee, Norcross,
Decatur, Tucker
and Stone Mountain, GA. He also was a fireman in Doraville, GA. Gary drove a big rig for 7 years and
loved taking his grand daughter Brittany "Porkchop", and nephew
Nick Tinsley on some of his hauls. Gary loved his family and
friends more
than the world. Spending time
with them is what Gary loved to do.
Surviving
are family members, his brother, Larry Wayne Tinsley of Lawrenceville
and his
son Nick Tinsley, his sister Debra Lakeman of Snellville, children
Marcie
Tinsley and her fiancé of Sharpsburg, Ryan Tinsley and his
wife
Maria of Buford, and Kimberly Tinsley and her husband
Shane of
Blairsville, grandchildren, Carissa Pierce, Brittany Stanley, Aiden
Tinsley,
Christopher Tinsley, and Maya Tinsley.
A
memorial service will be held at a later date and will be announced. Flowers are accepted or if you wish, the
family requests that donations may be made to help defray medical and
funeral
expenses in memory of Mr. Tinsley.

Mrs.
Betty Jo Fortenberry, age 79, of Wesley Mtn. Drive, Blairsville passed
away
Sunday, January 8, 2012 in Chatuge Regional Nursing Home following an
extended
illness. Mrs. Fortenberry was born
September 25, 1932 in Blairsville, GA daughter of the late Joseph
Hightower and
Nora Lee Everett. She was preceded in
death by her husband, Edmond Fortenberry, two brothers, Thomas Andrew
Everett
and John Festus Everett. Betty Jo was of
the Jehovah’s Witness Faith.
Survivors include sisters, Ina Jordan of Hiawassee, GA and Martha Evans
of
Jacksonville, FL, brother Joseph David Everett of Cumming, GA, several
nieces,
nephews, many other relatives and friends also survive.
No services are planned at this time. In
lieu of flowers make memorial to Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses
Church.

Mr.
John
(Jack) Joseph Holleran, age 71, of Blairsville, GA, passed away on
January 4,
2012 at his residence. Mr. Holleran was
born on Christmas Day in 1940, the son of the late James and Helen
Holleran. Mr. Holleran was a graduate of
Millburn High
School in Millburn, NJ, class of 1958. Mr.
Holleran attended Rider University in Trenton, NJ. He
served in the United States Army. Mr.
Holleran was a self-employed Manufactures
Representative. He was a loving husband
to his wife, Lynne, a loving father and grandfather. He
was preceded in death by his parents, James
and Helen Holleran, and one sister, Joan Pappas. Mr.
Holleran attended St. Francis of Assisi
Church in Blairsville, GA.
Mr. Holleran is survived by and lovingly remembered by his wife, Lynne.
All of Jacks’s (sic) children from his
first
marriage to Leslie Poe, reside in St. Augustine, FL, a son, Jack, a
son, Jeff
and his wife Kelly, a daughter Kelly and her husband Dan Borrer, two
grandchildren, Reilly Kathleen Holleran and Jameson Murphy Holleran,
known to
his grandchildren as Pop-Pop. Mr.
Holleran was from a big Irish family. He
was the fourth child in a family of six, two brothers Jim and Bill,
three
sisters, Joan Pappas (deceased) Terry Motzel and Ellyn Holleran. Mr. Holleran had many nieces and
nephews, of whom loved “Uncle Jack”. He
moved to Blairsville, GA in 2001 and he truly loved Blairsville, GA!
Mr.
Holleran lived in Seagirt, NJ and Jupiter, FL before moving to
Blairsville, GA.
Mr. Holleran was a gentleman in every
respect and will be sorely missed by those who loved him. His sense of humor was quick. He
made everyone laugh. His favorite song, as
were many Irish tunes,
was the “Holleran Song”. Mr. Holleran
was a member of the Elks in St. Augustine, FL, the American Legion in
Hiawassee
and a member of the Chatuge Gun Club.
Memorial services were held Saturday, January 7, 2012 at 11 a.m. at
Mountain
View Funeral Home Chapel with Father Bob Gibson officiating. The family received friends at the funeral
home from 10 until 11 a.m.

Betty
Walker, nee
Elizabeth Lucile Puckett, passed away Sunday, January 1, 2012 in
Florida.
Betty is
survived by
her daughter, Denise Doane, and grandson, Joshua Cousins.
She was born in Atlanta, but lived in the
Hiawassee-Blairsville area for the past 20 years. She
was a wonderful mother and grandmother
who enjoyed attending church, listening to gospel music and square
dancing.
Visitation
at
Cochran Funeral Home in Blairsville was held on Friday evening, January
6,
2012, between the hours of 6 p.m. and 9 p.m.
Graveside services were held on Saturday, January 7, 2012, at 1
p.m., in
Melrose Cemetery in Stone Mountain, GA, with Rev. jack Cochran
officiating.
