MR. ralph gordon duckworth

 

Mr. Ralph Gordon Duckworth (better known as the Sunshine Man) age 84, of Fairview Trail Road, Blairsville, Georgia, passed away on Monday, January 3, 2000 in the Murphy Medical Nursing Home in Murphy, NC.  Mr. Duckworth was born on October 14, 1915 in Union County the son of the late Van Duckworth and the late Nancy Reed Duckworth.  He was a lifelong resident of Union County and was of the Baptist Faith.

Surviving are two daughters: Kathy Sue Burrell of Cartersville, Vessie Marie Carabllo of Stuart, FL; sis sons, Jerry Ralph Duckworth, of Rockmart, GA; Thomas Dewey, Edgar Lee and Gordon Henry Duckworth, all of Blairsville, Roy Duckworth of Stuart, FL and Robert Wayne Duckworth of Young Harris, sixteen grandchildren, six great grandchildren and many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, January 6, 2000 from the funeral home chapel with Rev. Stacy Dyer and the Rev. Thomas Burrell officiating.  Special music was presented by Ken and Elaine Young.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Bobby Cantrell, Mack Duckworth, Jack Burrell, A.C. Nix, Larry Thomas, and Ed Nix.  Interment followed in the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.

MR. gene foster

 

Mr. Gene Foster, age 60, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Monday, January 3, 2000 in Union General Hospital in Blairsville.

Mr. Foster was born in Union County, Georgia on Saturday, February 4, 1939, a son of the late Earnest Foster and Ora Reece Foster.  He was a retired school bus driver and was a member of New Harmony Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Joyce Smith Foster, of Blairsville; daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Ernie Pruitt of Suches; daughter and son-in-law, Diane and Stacy Dyer of Blairsville; and daughter, Regina Foster of Blairsville; sisters, Margie and Sue Sparks of Blairsville; brothers, Earnest and Jack Foster, both of Panama City, Florida, and Marion Foster of Blairsville; five grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, January 5, 2000 at 2 pm from the chapel of Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville with Rev. Horace Potts and Re. Kenny Beaver officiating.  Special music was presented by Stacy Dyer and Paul Scales.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Lamar Underwood, Ronald Burns, Eugene Pope, Alex Foster, Darren Sparks, and Robbie Brown.  The following gentlemen served as honorary escort to the family: Doug Pruitt, Daniel Pruitt, and Derrick Pruitt.  Burial was in New Harmony Baptist Church Cemetery.

mrs. bobbie ruth payne randall

 

Mrs. Bobbie Ruth Payne Randall, age 72, of Dacula, Georgia, passed away Friday, January 7, 2000 after a brief illness.

Mrs. Randall was born in Union County, Georgia on Thursday, march 31, 1927, a daughter of the late Dennis and Kathleen Scruggs Payne.  She was a native of this area, having lived in Gwinnett County for three years.  Mrs. Randall was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church in Riverdale, GA.

Surviving are her husband, Gene Randall, of Dacula; son, Tony Wade, of Young Harris, GA; and daughters, Catherine Dale Wade of Dacula, and Robin Lynn Herod, of Powder Springs, GA; four grandchildren and several cousins and other relatives also survive.

Funeral services were held Sunday, January 9, 2000 at 2 p.m. from McConnell Memorial Baptist Church with Dr. Rudy Patton officiating.  Special music was presented for the service by Donna Trull and Ricky Thomas.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Hank Maxwell, Donnie Thomas, Bryon Carter, Roy Thomas, Hugh Herod, and David Tallent.  Burial was in Old Union Baptist Church Cemetery.

miss jessie mae fair

 

Miss Jessie Mae Fair, age 86, of Blairsville, Georgia passed away Thursday, January 6, 2000 in Union General Hospital in Blairsville.

Miss Fair was born in Union County, Georgia, on Sunday, October 26, 1913, a daughter of the late John David Fair and Claudia Hood Fair.  She was a lifelong resident of this area and was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church.

Surviving are two sisters: Anna Lee Fair Barfield, of Forest Park, GA; and Eurahvee Fair Foster, of Counce, TN; and brother, Clifford Fair of Blairsville; two sisters-in-law; Mae Fair, of Morganton, GA and Juanita Fair, of Blairsville; several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services were held Saturday, January 8, 2000 at 2 p.m. from Providence Methodist Church with Rev. Ray Potts and Rev. Charles Black officiating.  Special music was presented by Edward Vest.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Tony Thrasher, David Cox, Rex Odom, Earl Odom, Steve Kimsey and Billy Nix.  Interment was in Providence Methodist Church Cemetery.

MR. james russell pirkle

 

Mr. James Russell Pirkle, age 71, of Suches, Georgia, passed away Tuesday, January 4, 2000 in Union General Hospital.

Mr. Pirkle was born on Friday, November 23, 1928, in Fulton County, Georgia, the son of Mattie Irene Gooch Pirkle and the late Russell Boyd Pirkle.  He was a U.S. Air Force veteran.  Mr. Pirkle had lived and worked for many years in Warren, Michigan, for Chrysler, and moved back to this area in 1979.  He was a member of Gideon Baptist Church in Warren.  Mr. Pirkle had many hobbies.  Included in his interests were amateur radio, farming, and conservation.  He was a member of the NRA and was an avid computer enthusiast.  He was preceded in death by his father, Russell Boyd Pirkle, and a brother, George Harold Pirkle.

Surviving are his wife, Ruth Pirkle, of Suches; his mother, Mattie Irene Gooch Pirkle, of Suches; two daughters: Cindy Jane Pirkle Barwin and her husband Jeff; and Carol Jane Pirkle O’Neill and her husband Scott all of Sterling Heights, MI; three sons: James Russell Pirkle, Jr., and his wife Patti, of Winston-Salem, NC; Ronald Boyd Prikle and his wife, Robyn, of Martinez, GA; Rex Warren Prikle and his wife, Jeannette, of Denison, TX; twelve grandsons: Benjamin Pirkle, of Winston-Salem, David, Russell, Matthew and Thomas Pirkle, of Martinez, Adam, Daniel and Timothy Prikle, of Dension, TX, Steven and Michael Barwin, of sterling Heights, Alex, Richard and Robert O’Neill, of Sterling Heights; five granddaughters: Tera Lynn Pirkle Fuller and her husband, Carter, of Flinstone, GA, Tonya Kay Pirkle Keith and her husband Jeremy, of Chickamauga, GA, Emily Kate Pirkle, of Winston-Salem, Charlotte Ann Barwin and Toni Renee O’Neill, both of Sterling Heights; one great grandson, Carter Jacob Fuller, of Flinstone, sister, Janice Ann Pirkle Burns, of Warren, uncles, aunts, nieces and nephews also survive along with many friends.

Funeral services were held Friday, January 7, 2000 at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville, with Pastor James Brock officiating.  Special music was presented by the Kelley Trio.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Rex and Ronald Prikle, James Prikle, Jr., Scott O’Neill, Jeffrey Barwin, and Van Brock.  Interment was in Union memory Garden Cemetery with military honors presented by North Georgia Honor Guard.

MR. tom morgan huggins

 

Mr. Tom Morgan Huggins, age 72, of Tom Huggins Road, Blairsville, Georgia, passed away on Wednesday, January 5, 2000 in Union County the son of the late John Henry Huggins and the late Octavia Amanda Walker Huggins.  Mr. Huggins was retired after thirty years of service with the Blue Ridge Mtn. EMC in Young Harris.  He was a lifelong resident of union County, a member and deacon of the Liberty Baptist Church.

Surviving are his loving wife of fifty three years, Mary Sue Brown Huggins, of Blairsville; daughter and son in laws: Diana and Hoyt Stephens of Tate, GA; Jamie and Jim Kinnersley of Blairsville, Sheila Huggins Dean of Lilburn, GA; son: Johnny Huggins of Blairsville; son and daughter in law, Joel and Amy Huggins, of Blairsville; three brothers and sisters in laws: Claude and Jackie Hunt of CA., Rev. J.R. and Earlene Huggins of Virginia, Bob and Helen Huggins of Blairsville, twelve grandchildren, and one great great grandchild, many other nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, January 8, 2000 from the Liberty Baptist Church with the Rev. Brent Chatham officiating.  Joe Satterfield read the Linemans poem.  Special music was presented by Jim Kinnersley, Gloria Griggs, Nelson and Mildred Lecroy.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Kevin and Brian Kinnersley, Eli, Nathanael and Joel Stephens, Jeramy, Cole, and Dusty Huggins.  Honorary pallbearers were Cody and Joshua Huggins.  Interment followed in the Old Union Baptist Church Cemetery in Young Harris.
