mrs. velma marvine pickelsimer warren

 

Mrs. Velma Marvine Pickelsimer Warren, age 77, of Wheat St., Chatsworth, formerly of Union County, passed away on Sunday, January 6, 2002, at her home following an extended illness.  Mrs. Warren was born on Aug. 4, 1924 in Cobb Co., the daughter of the late Dave Pickelsimer and the late Florence Agnus Patton Pickelsimer.  Mrs. Warren had lived most of her life in Union County, where she and her husband owned and operated the Blow Market Grocery Store on Hwy 325.  She was a member of the Eastern Star and was a member of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church.

Surviving Mrs. Warren are two daughters and sons-in-law: Marilyn and Fred Collins of Dalton, Carolyn and Robert Shipman of Chatsworth; two sons and daughters-in-law: R.V. and Kathy Warren and Ronnie and Patricia Warren, all of Chatsworth; one brother and sister-in-law: J.C. and Rita Walcott of Blairsville; ten grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2002, at 4 p.m. from the Mt. Zion Baptist Church with the Rev. Luther Thomas and Pastor Carolyn Shipman officiating. 

Special music was presented by Kathyrine and Saved by Grace.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Billy Caylor, Rickie Warren, Roy Warren, David Davis, Jeremy Collins, Jason Farris and Brian McCarter. Interment followed in the church cemetery.

mrs. genevamae rich nicholson

 

Mrs. Geneva Mae Rich Nicholson, age 84, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Thursday, January 10, 2002 in Union General Hospital in Blairsville.

Mrs. Nicholson was born in Madison County, Georgia, a daughter of the late Elbert Rich and Bonnie Jackson Rich.  She was born on Friday, August 10, 1917, and was the widow of the late Paul Nicholson, who passed away in 2000.  She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Bobbye Rogers, who passed away in 1981.  A lifelong resident of Union County, Mrs. Nicholson was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church.

Surviving are daughter, Kathy Walton, of Hiawassee, Georgia; daughter Doris Collins of Marietta, Georgia; three sisters, Lorene Holbrook, Juanita Fair, and Jimmye Kimsey, all of Blairsville; seven grandchildren, Kourtney and Robbie Stuart of Mineral Bluff, Georgia, Brittany Walton of Hiawassee, Paul Walton of Hiawassee; Terri Norman of Dallas, Georgia; Lisa Dean of Marietta; Craig Rogers and Phillip Rogers, both of Charleston, South Carolina; eleven great grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held Saturday, January 12, 2001 at 2 pm from the chapel of Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville with Rev. Ray Potts and Rev. Vernon Davenport  officiating.  A eulogy was given by hr granddaughter, Kourtney Stuart.  Special music was presented by The Faith Singers and Martha Davenport.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: David Cox, Tony Dinatale, Hoyt Cunningham, Earl Odom, Rex Odom and Fred Roberts.  Serving as honorary escort to the family was Steve Kimsey.  Interment was in Bethlehem Baptist church Cemetery.

sandra elizabeth king payne

 

Sandra Elizabeth King Payne, age 56, of 402 Hwy 441, Homer, GA passed away Thursday, January 10, 2002 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center.

Sandra Payne was born on March 1, 1945 in Union County, Georgia the daughter of the late Clayton Doyle King and the late India Estelle (Helton) King.  She was a homemaker and a member of the House of Prayer.

Survivors include her husband, Arlie Payne of Homer, GA; sons, Darren Payne of Homer, GA; daughter Kim Ledford of Commerce, GA; brothers Buddy King and Charles King both of Blairsville, GA; four grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services were held Saturday, January 12, 2002, at 3 p.m., from Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Blairsville, with Rev. Bill Manus officiating.  Interment was in Pleasant Grove Cemetery.

Mrs. Evelyn Wright, age 68, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Thursday, January 10, 2002 in Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville, Georgia.

Mrs. Wright was born in Fannin county, Georgia, on Saturday, March 18, 1933, a daughter of the late L.P. Long and Callie Free Long.  She was a homemaker and a member of Bethany Baptist Church.  Mrs. Wright had been preceded in death by two sisters, Ophia Brawley and Frankie Grizzle, and a brother, Worth Long.

Surviving her husband, Clyde Wright of Blairsville; daughters, Kathy Taylor, Barbara Wells, and Helen Souther, all of Blairsville; sons, Michael Wright, Lonnie Wright and Wayne Wright, all of Blairsville; sisters, Birta Woody of Dial, Georgia, Cleo Oshields of Brady Lake, Ohio, Clara Black of Woodfield, Ohio, Othella Wynn of Suches, Georgia, Elsie Herendon of Blairsville, Opal Brawley of Brady Lake, Ohio; brothers, Hubert Long of Blairsville and D.L. Long of Blue Ridge, Georgia; nine grandchildren, five great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews along with many friends also survive.

Funeral services were held Sunday, January 13, 2002 at 2 pm from the chapel of Cochran Funeral Home with Rev. Tom Ford and Rev. Guy Wayne Shook officiating.  Special music was presented by The Bennie Shook Family.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Ray Long, Dusty Young, Terry Black, Allen Black, Travis Taylor and Jimmy Black.  Interment was in Tilley Baptist Church Cemetery.

mr. alexander george berezanski, jr.

 

Alexander George Berezanski, Jr., 59, of Pickens, SC and Blairsville, GA died as a result of an automobile accident in Valdosta, GA Sunday, January 6, 2002.  Mr. Berezanski was born in Oklahoma to the late Alexander G. and Liberty Berezanski, Sr.  He was a truck driver, a Catholic, and had served in the United States Marine Corp.

Survivors include his wife, Carol Bush Berezanski of Zephyr Hills, FL; a daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Jackie Popham of Six Mile, SC; a son, Alexander G. Berezanski III of New Jersey; a stepson, William Bush of St. Petersburg, FL; six grandchildren, two great grandchildren, twin sisters and their husbands – Barbara and Pete Brotti of Manville, NJ, Bernice and Tommy Ryan of Titon Falls, NJ; brother-in-law Richard O. Bush and his wife Dru of Ft. Myers, FL, and sisters-in-law Eileen, Beverly, and Linda.

There will be no services at this time.  Mr. Berezanski’s body will be cremated.  Carson McLane Funeral Home of Valdosta, GA is serving the Berezanski family.

Mr. nathan luke thomas

 

Mr. Nathan Luke Thomas, age 77, of Pendleton St. Pickens, SC, formerly of Blairsville, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2002, in the St. Frances Hospital in South Carolina following an extended illness.  Mr. Thomas was born in Union Co., on Dec. 27, 1924, the son of the late Edd Asker Thomas and the late Fannie Mae Cloer Thomas.  Mr. Thomas was preceded in death by a son, William Eddie Thomas and a grandson, Gregory Scott Thomas.  He was a Union Co. native and was a member of the Trackrock Baptist Church.

Surviving Mr. Thomas are: his loving wife, Lillian Bennett Thomas of Pickens, SC; one son and daughter-in-law: Leon and Nancy Thomas of Rocky Face, GA; three daughters and sons-in-law: Dorothy and Joe Dillard of Blairsville, Fannie and Danny Garrett of Murryville, GA, Frances and L.C. Fortenberry of Blue Ridge; Dewyne, Larry, Linda, Jimmy, Ronnie, Edd, and Bobby Bennett, all of SC; three sisters: Pauline Collins of Blairsville, Vina Cook of Blairsville, Eva Mae Pendland of Edge Field, Sc; many grandchildren and many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Friday, Jan. 11, 2002, at 2 p.m. from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Horace Potts officiating.  Special music was presented by Brandon Garrett and Tammy Baisden.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Danny Dillard, Royce Dillard, Steven Thomas, Nathan Bennett, Jeryl Fortenberry, Brian Garrett, Brandon Garrett and Barry Garrett.  Interment followed in the Old Union Baptist Cemetery.

Mr. Clifford Barnett, age 64, of Sweet Gum Road, Blairsville, passed away Sunday, January 13, 2002, in the Blue Ridge Health Care Center in Blue Ridge.  Born in Clairborne, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Hillary and Emma Taylor Barnett.  The body was cremated.

He is survived by a son, Sean Barnett of Blairsville; a brother, Melvin Barnett of Dearborn, Michigan; a sister, Faye Potts of Hammersville, Ohio; and 4 grandchildren.

mrs. nellie ann brown williamson

 

Mrs. Nellie Ann Brown Williamson, age 93, of Gum Log Road, Union County, Georgia, passed away Friday, January 11, 2002, in Union General Hospital in Blairsville.

Mrs. Williamson was born in Towns County, Georgia on Thursday, August 6, 1908, a daughter of the late Edward Brown and Mindy Barnes Brown.  She was a homemaker and a lifelong resident of this area.  Mrs. Williamson was a member of Many Forks Baptist Church.  A son, James Williamson, passed away in 2000.

Surviving are her husband, Charlie Williamson, of Union County; son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Wilia Mae Nicholson of Gastonia, North Carolina; son and daughter-in-law, Carroll and Rachel Williamson, of Young Harris, Georgia; daughter-in-law, Rebecca Williamson of Cramerton, North Carolina; four grandchildren, Ray Covington, Tony Williamson, Dewanna Williamson, and Karen Williamson; six great grandchildren also survive, along with many friends and other relatives.

Funeral services were held Sunday, January 13, 2002 at 4 pm from the chapel of Cochran Funeral Home in Blairsville with Rev. R.L. Martin officiating.  Special music was presented by Instrumentalist Alicia Covington and Many Forks Duet, accompanied by Joyce Mason, pianist.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: John Bilbo, Phil Williamson, Kenneth Davis, Gene Little, Sheldon Henderson and Gary Martin.  Interment was in Many Forks Baptist Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, if you wish, the family has suggested memorials be made to Union County Nursing Home.

Mrs. Abbie Elizabeth Maxwell, age 43, of Fairview Church Road, Blairsville, passed away on January 9, 2002 from injuries received in an automobile accident.  Mrs. Maxwell was born on August 27, 1958 in Glencove, NY, the daughter of Warren Sanford Lee and the late Marcia Nathanson Lee.  She was serving as Office Administrator at the New Hope Baptist Church at the time of her death.  She was preceded in death by her mother, Marcia Lee in 1991 and Richard Allen Lee in 1996.  Mrs. Maxwell was a member of the New Hope Baptist Church.

Surviving Mrs. Maxwell are one daughter, Venice Maxwell of Blairsville, father, Warren Lee and stepmother, Carolyn Levant of Ellijay, one sister and brother-in-law, Jane and Steve Hall of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Sunday, January 13, 2001 at 2:30 pm from the New Hope Baptist Church with the Rev. Gregg Williams and Rev. Leon McDonald officiating.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Bobb Overstreet, Gary Hone, Joe Davis, Sr, Daniel Floyd, Steve Fish, and Kirk Hinke.  Interment followed in the Pinetop Baptist Church Cemetery.

mr. john wendall webster

 

Mr. John Wendall Webster, age 61, of Wild Water Road, Blairsville, passed away on Thursday, January 10, 2002 in the Union County Nursing Home following an extended illness.  Mr. Webster was born on June 29, 1940 the son of the late Jake W. Webster and the late Lorena Lavoie Webster.

Surviving Mr. Webster are two sisters and brother-in-laws, Madeline and Bob Scoda of Blairsville, Linda and Art Karmgard of Blairsville; sister-in-law, Carol Webster of Rome, GA; many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Monday, January 14, 2002 at 10 am from the Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jerry Helton officiating.  Special music was presented by Mildred LeCroy.  Interment and graveside services followed at 3 pm from the Sunset Memory Gardens in Cartersville, GA.

mr. merritt victor brown

 

Mr. Merritt Victor Brown, age 79, of Rocky Top Heights Road, Blairsville, passed away on January 10, 2002 in the N. Fulton Hospital in Atlanta following an extended illness.  Mr. Brown was born on September 26, 1922 in Spalding County, the son of the late Charles Augustus Brown and the late Pearlie Mae Jones Brown.  Mr. Brown was retired from the College Park Police Department with over twenty years of service and was Captain for several years.  He was a veteran of the U.S. Marines in WWII.  Mr. Brown was a Shriner and a member of The College Park Lodge #454 F&AM and also was a Post Commander of American Legion Post 50.  He was a member of the Antioch Baptist Church.

Surviving Mr. Brown are one sister and brother-in-law, Marilyn and Gene McCaffery of Long Island, NY; one brother and sister-in-law, Charlie and Shirley Brown of Blairsville, a long time friend and part of the family, Sue Merritt, several nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, January 12, 2001 from the Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. George Cline officiating.  Special music was presented by Tammy Blassingame and Patsy Davenport.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Andy Anderson, Ray Roberts, Harold Plott, Charlie Gregory, Terry Kintz, John Lemmon, Ted Noelle, and A.G. Sherman.  Interment followed in the Antioch Baptist Cemetery.
