Florence
Marie Stokes Burnett, age 73, loving wife of Judge E. “Jack” Burnett,
Jr.,
passed into the Lords hands on January 7, 2008 after an extended
illness. The couple had just celebrated
their 55th wedding anniversary on
December 25, 2007.
Left to
cherish her memory are 6 children, Tom Burnett and wife Fay of Seaford,
VA,
Judge Burnett, III and wife Merilyn of Chino Valley, ZA, Richard
Burnett and
wife Elizabeth of Medlothian, TX, Phillip Burnett of Casper, WY, Mary
Burnett
Lehman of Clevelan, GA, and Linda Burnett of Suches, GA.
She will be sadly missed by 11 grandchildren,
6 great-grandchildren, and 1 sister.
Marie was
born December 16, 1943 and was a Peninsula resident until the couple
sold
Burnett’s market in Seaford in 1994 and moved to Suches, GA to enjoy
their
retirement. Along life’s highway she
touched many people with her kind and caring ways.
We will all miss her.
Funeral
services for Mrs. Burnett were held Thursday, January 10, 2008 at 2
p.m. at
Zion Baptist Church in Suches, GA with Rev. Russell Lyle officiating. Interment followed in the church
cemetery. Mrs. Burnett lay in state at
the church from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. on Thursday. In
lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy
may be made to The Medical Center Foundation, Hospice of Northeast
Georgia
Medical Center Fund, 2150 Limestone Parkway, Suite 115, Gainesville, GA
30501-2567.

Mr. James
Robert Ballard, age 72, of Young Harris, GA passed away on January 11,
2008 following
a period of declining health. He was
born to the late Fred and Beulah Shuler Ballard on April 25, 1935 in
Union
County, GA.
He is
survived by a special companion, Faye Kirby of Young Harris, GA;
daughters,
Shirlee Eller of Hiawassee, GA, Sandra Mai and Shelby Ballard, both of
Gainesville, GA; son James Lee Ballard of Gainesville, GA; step-son,
Terry
Kirby of Young Harris, GA; brother, Bill Hunnicut of Hayesville, NC;
sisters,
Ruby Rhinehardt of young Harris, GA, Ruth Rogers of marble, NC; eleven
grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and
nephews
also survive.
Funeral
services for Mr. Ballard were held Saturday, January 12, 2008 at 2 p.m.
from
the chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Jimmy Rogers and Rev. Bill
Dyer
officiating. The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Dennis Lee
Wheeler,
Joseph Maney, Tom Mai, Kevin Sutton, Terry Kirby, and Ashley Eller. Music was provided by Ashley Eller and Ray
Eller. Interment was in Old Union
Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Augusta
Jean Richardson, age 76, of Craig Thompson Drive, Blairsville passed
away on
Friday, January 11, 2008 in the Union General Hospital following a
brief illness. Mrs. Richardson was born on
March 3, 1931 in
Wilkinson, IN, the daughter of the late Willis Whisler and the late
Bessie
Bennett Whisler. Mrs. Richardson was a
loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and will be missed by
her
family and all who knew her. She loved
animals, especially her dog Muffy, who she had for over fifteen years. She loved pictures, Coca Cola and just being
with her family. She was preceded in
death by a sister, Bertha Seely who passed away this year also. Mrs. Richardson was of the Methodist faith.
Surviving
Mrs. Richardson are three daughters and one son-in-law, Terri McAfee of
Blairsville,
Bonnie Whitmore of Dawsonville, Brenda and Bob Young of Lafayette, IN;
one
brother and sister-in-law, Earl and Celia Whisler of Shirley, IN; eight
loving
grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren; many other relatives and
friends also
survive.
A memorial
service and interment will be held at a later date in Indiana and will
be
announced. In lieu of flowers, if you
wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to the Humane
society in
Mrs. Richardson’s memory.

R. Scott
Shattles, age 42, of Blairsville, GA passed away Tuesday, January 8,
2008 at Union
General Hospital in Blairsville. Scott
was of the Baptist Faith.
Survivors
include his parents, Don and Janice Shattles of Blairsville; maternal
grandparents, Lillian and Russell Jackson; paternal grandmother, Louise
Shattles; sister and brother-in-law, Layne and John Ward, all of
Blairsville;
nephews, Andrew and Jeffrey Ward; his dog, Wilson.
Many other relatives and friends also
survive.
Memorial
services will be announced later. In

Mr. Paul
M. covey, age 60, of Blairsville, GA, passed away Tuesday, January 8,
2008 in
Blairsville. Mr. Covey was born in
Huntington, Indiana, on March 14, 1947, a son of Donald Covey and
Vivian Wright
Covey. He was a musical instrument
maker, specifically the oboe, and was a member of the International
Double Reed
Society. He had lived in Blairsville
since August of 2007, and had been a resident of Atlanta for 11 years
prior.
Surviving
family members include his parents, Donald and Vivian, of St.
Petersburg, FL
and a sister, Suzanne Swisher, also of St. Petersburg.
Memorial
services were held Saturday, January 12, 2008, at 2 p.m. from St.
martin of the
Fields Episcopal Church. If you wish,
