mrs. mary griffin

 

            Mrs. Mary Griffin, age 82, of 4522 Piney Grove Lane, Cumming, Georgia, died Sunday, January 7, 1996 at the Parkway Medical Center in Lithia Springs, Georgia, following a short illness.

Mrs. Griffin was a native of White County who had lived in Union County most of her life.  She had lived in Forsyth County for the past eight years.  She was a homemaker and was a member of Zion Baptist Church in Union County.  She attended North Lanier Baptist Church in Cumming, Georgia. 

            Survivors include: three daughters; Mrs. Viola Gilbert, Mrs. Eary Bell Campbell, both of Cumming, Georgia and Mrs. Elaine Gober of Dawsonville, Georgia; sons: Mr. Clinton Griffin and Mr. Jerry Griffin, both of  Cumming, Georgia; sister: Mrs. Martha Popham, of Cumming, Georgia; brother: Mr. Fate Tow, of Suches, Georgia; twelve grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and several other relatives also survive.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 PM, Wednesday, January 10, 1996 at the Banister Funeral Home Chapel in Dahlonega with Rev. Harold Evans officiating.  Interment will follow in the Zion Baptist Church Cemetery in Union County.

mr. paul g. erwin

 

            Mr. Paul G. Erwin, age 88, of Blairsville, passed away Saturday, January 6, 1996 at his home.  Mr. Erwin was born November 28, 1907 in Union County, the son of Benjamin and Murphy Jones Erwin.  Mr. Erwin was of the Methodist faith. 

            Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Jessie Erwin of the home; two sons, Mr. Lehman Davis of Cumming, Georgia and Dr. Benny Erwin of Blairsville; one daughter, Mrs. Paulette Erwin Hill of griffin, Georgia; twos sisters, Mrs. Ellen Nix of Blairsville and Mrs. Ann Burgess of Cleveland, Georgia; and one brother, Mr. Houston Erwin of Blairsville; 5 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.

            Funeral services were held Tuesday, January 9, 1996 from the chapel of the Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville the Rev. Jerry Helton and Rev. Bill Honaker officiating.  Interment was in the Shady Grove Methodist Cemetery.

rev. james edward odom

 

            Rev. James Edward Odom, 68, of Oxford, Georgia, formerly of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Friday afternoon, January 12, 1996 in Peachtree Hospice in Decatur, Georgia.

James was born in Union County, Georgia, on March 1, 1927, a son of the late John Gordon Odom and Leila Bessie Thomas Odom.  Since 1971 he had been living in Oxford, Georgia.  Mr. Odom was a member of the Way of the Cross Baptist Church in Conyers, Georgia, and was an ordained minister and deacon.  James was known to all as a fervent witness for Christ and was a loving husband and father.  He was preceded in death by a son, Larry Edward Odom. 

            Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Grace Parris Odom, of Oxford; daughter, Penny R. Odom, also of Oxford; daughter and son in law, Tammy and Mark Lewis, of Benton, Arkansas; grandchildren, Zachary and Abigail Lewis, of Benton, Arkansas; and a brother, J.C. Odom, of Blairsville.

            Funeral services were held Monday, January 15, 1996 at 11:00 AM from the chapel of the funeral home with Rev. John Ridings and Rev. Leonard Hunter officiating.  Special music was presented by the Faith Singers.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Mark Lewis, Randall Patterson, Bobby Blount, David Bruce, Stanley Odom, and Tim Odom.  Interment was in New Union Baptist Church cemetery (sic) in Blairsville.
