Mrs. Beverly Mae Wolkom, age 78, of Wesley Mtn. Drive Blairsville passed away on Sunday, January 15, 2006, in the Union County Nursing Home, following an extended illness.  Mrs. Wolkom was born on April 10, 1927 in Alpena, NJ, the daughter of the late Jonathan Thomson and the late Ida Burt Thomson.  She had been employed as a Book Keeper and retired in 1988.  She was preceded in death by her first husband, Willis Wood and also by her second husband, Jim Wolkom.  Mrs. Wolkom was a member of the Coosa United Methodist church.

Surviving Mrs. Wolkom are one daughter and son in law, Sharin and George Perricone of Blairsville, one brother and sister in law, one brother and sister in law, Jack and Helen Thomson of Florida, one sister, Ida Roberts of Michigan, two grandchildren, Tracy Perricone of Blairsville, Georgia and wife Karen Perricone of Blairsville, one Great-Grandchild, Noah Perricone of Blairsville, Nephew and God Son, Anthony Cosentino and family of Ocean Port, NJ, several nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 19, 2006 at 10 a.m. from the Coosa Methodist Church with the Rev. Katie Strals officiating.  The body will lie in state at the church on Thursday fro 9-10 a.m.  The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers, George Perricone, George Perricone Jr., Bradley O’Brien, Cane Hayes, Michael Perricone and Michael Christopher Perricone.  Interment will follow in the Glenwood Cemetery in West Longbranch, NJ at a later date.

mrs. sidra lee cheatham

 

Mrs. Sidra Lee Cheatham, age 64, of Cheatham Rd., Blairsville, formerly of the Florida Keys passed away on Sunday, Jan. 15, 2006 at her home following a brief illness.  Mrs. Cheatham was born on Oct. 13, 1941 in Jefferson County, KY, the daughter of the late Brunson P. Faust and the late Ardis Mae Zenor Faust.  She was a retired Registered Nurse.  Mrs. Cheatham was of the Christian faith.

Surviving Mrs. Cheatham are her loving husband of thirty-five years, Edwin Cheatham of Blairsville, three daughters and one son-in-law, Julie Cheatham of Helen, GA, Sabrina and Glen Kough of Blairsville, Sandra Campbell of Blairsville, two sons and two daughters-in-law, Robert and Diane Cheatham of Newnan, GA, Kenneth and Julie Cheatham of Palm Coast, FL, one sister and brother-in-law, Sandy and Tom Fisher of Melbourne, FL, twelve grandchildren, many other relatives and friends also survive.

A memorial servile will be held from Mrs. Cheatham’s home at a later date for family and friends.  In lieu of flowers if you wish the family requests that memorials may be made to Regency Hospice in Mrs. Cheatham’s memory.

mrs. eulamae williamson carringer

 

Eulamae Williamson Carringer, age 77 of Brasstown, NC died Saturday, January 14, 2006 at Valley View Care & Rehab Center in Andrews, NC.

She was a native of union County, Georgia and grew up in Towns County, GA.  She was a member of the Little Brasstown Baptist Church in Brasstown, NC.  She loved flowers, canning, and gardening, animals and was an avid reader.  For many years, she owned and operated the Seven Dwarfs Daycare in the Peachtree Community.  Eulamae was the daughter of the late Gus and Mae Messer Williamson and was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-nine years, Robert Bruce Carringer who died August 23, 2005.

She is survived by a son, Perry Carringer and his wife Linda of Hayesville, NC; two daughters, Brenda Black and her husband Bruce of Marble, NC and Wanda Payne of Murphy, NC; two brothers, Odie Williamson of the Gumlog Community, NC and Phillip Williamson of Blairsville, Georgia; one sister, Lou Ella Stuman of the Gumlog Community, NC; seven grandchildren, Kim hardy of Sylva, NC, Andrew Mosteller of Brownfield, Texas, Aaron Black of Burlington, Vermont and Alicen Rogers, Keaton Carringer, Lucas Carringer and Logan Carringer all of Hayesville, NC: and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m., Monday, January 16, 2006, at the Little Brasstown Baptist Church in Brasstown, NC.  The Rev. Aud Brown and Rev. R.L. Martin will officiate.  Interment will be in the Little Brasstown Baptist Church Cemetery.  Pallbearers were David Anderson, Kenneth Davis, Tony Shook, Larry Williamson, Carroll Williamson and John Gibson.  Honorary pallbearers were Robert Allen and Michael Anderson.

The family received friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Monday, January 16, 2006, at the Little Brasstown Baptist Church.

mr. clifford ingram

 

Clifford Ingram, 74, of Warne died Friday, January 13, 2006 in a Blairsville, Georgia hospital.  He was a native of Union County, BA, but had lived in Clay County for most of his life.  He was the son of the late Fred and Stella Early Ingram.  Clifford was a retired construction worker and was a member of the Bethel Missionary Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Mary Ruth Lancaster Ingram; three daughters, Dimple Payne and her husband, Jerry of Brasstown, Shirley Hall and her husband, Gary and Wilma Ingram all of Young Harris, GA; two sons, Scott Ingram and his wife, Kristi and Stacy Ingram and his wife, Sonya all of Hayesville; two sister, Joyce Mulkey and her husband, Steve of Warne and Jeanette Cantrell and her husband, Brad of Brasstown; a brother and best friend, Cecil Ingram and his wife, Ruby of Warne; and nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m., Monday (Jan. 16) in the Chapel of the Ivie Funeral Home, Hayesville with Rev. Jimmy Rogers officiating.  Burial in the Bethel Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery.  Pallbearers: Stacy, Scott, Kyle, and Dakota Ingram, and Eric and Adam Dills.  Eli Dills, Jake Ingram, Jerry Payne, Gary Hall, Terry King, and Nathan Eller as honorary pallbearers.

The family received friends from 11-12:45 Monday at the Ivie Funeral Home, Hayesville prior to the services.

Memory boards by Brittany Payne, Alex Ingram, Ellee and Jazie King, Tashina Eller, Alicia King, and Kim and Jayne Dills.

mr. arthur b. grizzle

 

Mr. Arthur B. Grizzle, age 96, of Suches, GA, died Friday, January 13, 2006 at the Chestatee Regional Hospital in Dahlonega, GA, following a brief illness.

Mr. Grizzle was a native and lifelong resident of Union County, was a retired farmer and was a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church #2 in Union County.

Mr. Grizzle was the son of the late Ells Grizzle and Dollie Thomason Grizzle and was also preceded in death by his wife: Lillian Gooch Grizzle; brothers: Henry Grizzle, Homer Grizzle, Gordon Grizzle, Norman Grizzle, Verlon Grizzle, Arlie Grizzle; sisters: Della Carder, Maude Brookshire and Julie Warren.

He is survived by sons and daughter-in-law: Junior Grizzle, Suches, GA, Wayne and Jeanette Grizzle, Duluth, GA, Robert Grizzle, Suches, GA; daughters and son-in-law: Virginia Anderson, Dahlonega, GA, Reatha and Richard Lee, Woodstock, GA; 18 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren and a large number of other relatives also survive.

Funeral services for Mr. Grizzle were scheduled for 3:30 p.m., Sunday, January 15, 2006 at the Banister Funeral Home Chapel in Dahlonega.

Interment followed in the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church #2 Cemetery in Union County.

mrs. amanda dawn beavers irick

 

Mrs. Amanda Dawn Beavers Irick, age 19, of Pine Log Rd., Young Harris, passed away on Tuesday, January 10, 2006 at her home following an extended illness.  Mrs. Irick was born on July 29, 1986 in Union County, the daughter of Richard Johnson and Mary Beavers.  She was a native and lifelong resident of Union County and had attended the Union County School System.  Amanda was a member of the Blairsville Church of Christ.

Surviving Amanda are her loving husband, Joshua Irick of Young Harris; mother, Mary Jane Beavers; stepfather, Richard Stemple of Blairsville; father, Richard Johnson of Blairsville; grandparents, Don and Ann Beavers of Blairsville; mother-in-law, Cindy Lynd of Young Harris; father-in-law and wife, mark and Susan Irick of Cleveland, GA; brother-in-law, BEN Geiger of Davenport, FL; two brothers, Andy Deyton and Chad Stemple both of Blairsville; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and many other relatives and friends also survive.

A memorial service was held on Saturday January 14, 2006 at 3:30 p.m. from the Blairsville Church of Christ with Minister Terry Stuart officiating.  The family met with friends following the services at the church.  In lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that memorials may made to the Amanda Irick memorial fund, c/o Blairsville Church of Christ or Mountain View funeral home in Amanda’s memory.

Mr. Jerry Swayne Plott, age 67, of Doc Jones Rd., Blairsville passed away on Thursday, Jan. 12, 2006 in the Murphy Medical Center following an extended illness.  Mr. Plott was born on May 11, 1938 in Union County, the son of the late Edward Hubert Plott and the late Bennie Hutson Plott.  He was a native of Union County and was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving Mr. Plott are one daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Coot martin of Blairsville, one son and daughter-in-law, Bryan and Becky Plott of Loganville, GA, one brother and sister-in-law, Ervin and Delphia Plott of Blairsville, five grandchildren, Cullen and Nevin Robertson, Haley, Hannah and Hadrian Plott, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Memorial services were held on Saturday, Jan. 14, 2006 at 1 p.m. from the funeral home chapel with Phillip Meeks officiating.   In lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that donations may be made to the American Lung Association in Mr. Plott’s memory.

mrs. tressie “armell” scroggs

 

Mrs. Tressie “Armell Scroggs, age 79, of Blairsville passed away Monday, January 9, 2006 in the Stonehenge Assisted Living in Blairsville.  Born in Morganton, GA, she was the daughter of the late Arthur Goodman Brackett and Vera Odom Brackett.  She worked as a lunchroom attendant in the Jonesboro School System and was a member of Liberty Hill United Methodist Church.  Mrs. Scroggs enjoyed to sing very much.  She was preceded in death by three brothers, Horace Brackett, Fred A. Brackett and Waldo Brackett, and a sister, Bennie Lee Fagon.

She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Clarence Lucius Scroggs of the home; a sister, Anna Bell Self of Jonesboro, GA; and a host of family, nieces and nephews, and friends.

Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, January 11, 2006 at 2 p.m. from the Akins of Blue Ridge Chapel with Rev. Jennings Neeld and Rev. Charles Black officiating.  Music was by Betty Gould and Beverly Thompson.  Pallbearers were Mark Scroggs, Randy Zimmerman, Chuck Phillips, Ricky Daves, Van Pickelsimer, Steve Ross, David Owenby, Scott Cruse, and Kenith Pickelsimer.  Honorary pallbearers were fellow employees of G.M., members of Liberty Hill United Methodist, members of Concord Baptist Church, and all family and friends.  Interment followed in Concord Church Cemetery.  Condolences may be sent to the funeral home at www.akinsfuneralhome.com.  Akins Funeral Home of Blue Ridge was in charge of arrangements.

mr. raymond a. marley

 

Mr. Raymond A. Marley, age 83, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Tuesday, January 10, 2006 at his residence, after a lengthy illness.  Mr. Marley was born Thursday, December 21, 1922, in Grant, Indiana to the late Raymond Marley and the late Georgia Pierce Marley.  He was a member of House of Prayer Interdenominational Church, where he adopted, informally, the Holoman family; JoAnn, Phil, Jason, Jennifer, Jessica, Joey, and JoAnna, and also Brandon Owens.  The have been a blessing as our Blairsville family.

A WWII Army Veteran he served as a medic in World War II in the Pacific Theatre, 19941-1945.  Mr. Marley was a member and Past Commander of The American Legion and a member of V.F.W.  Mr. Marley worked in law enforcement for 40 years, serving in Marion and Van Buren, Indiana; and served as Sheriff for Grant County, Indiana for four years.  He was a licensed commercial pilot with over 7000 flight hours.  He also did crop dusting, and was a Certified Flight Instructor.  His hobbies included fishing, hunting, golfing, wood-turning, and also used a potter’s wheel to form clay vessels.  He built his own kiln, and composed his own proper chemical formulas to achieve his personal colors for firing the pottery.  A very talented man, he was a skilled automobile mechanic, carpenter, electrician and plumber.

Mr. Marley was preceded in death by a son, Joseph A. Marley.

Survivors include: wife, Barbara Marley of Blairsville, Georgia; son, James E. Marley, of Wilmington, North Carolina; son, John Stephen Marley of Sugar Hill, Georgia; son, Raymond T. Marley, of Missouri; step-son, Timothy L. Fischer of St. Matthew, Couth Carolina; step-son, Kenneth H. Fischer of Finland, Minnesota; step-daughter, Martha S. Mullen of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Many grandchildren and great grandchildren also survive.

Memorials services will be held Friday, January 20, 2006 at 1 p.m. from the House of Prayer Interdenominational Church with Rev. Jerry Helton officiating.   Burial services will be held Sunday, January 22, 2006, in Marion, Indiana.

Erna H. Kangas passed away 12-28-2005 at Union County Nursing Home, Blairsville.  She leaves her daughters Sharon K. Thompson of Blairsville and Lynne K. Sanford of Hiawassee and a sister, Doris H. Fedus, 6 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.  Erna was a longtime teacher in Detroit, Michigan and Ft. Lauderdale, FL.  Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville in charge of local arrangements.

Mr. Arvil Gregory, age 83, of Blairsville, GA, passed away Wednesday, January 11, 2006 at Union General Hospital.  Mr. Gregory was born Wednesday, August 23, 1922 in Union County, GA, to the late Joseph Gregory and the late Isabel Harkins Gregory.  He was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church, and was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in WWII, Korea and Vietnam.  Mr. Gregory was a member of the American Legion and a life member of both the VFW and the DAV.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Luanna Gregory, a son, Robert Lee Gregory and granddaughter, LeAnn Gregory.

Survivors include: son and daughter-in-law, Charles A. and Nan Gregory of Blue Ridge, GA; daughter and son-in-law, Patricia G. and Virgil Eddleman of Claude, TX; sister, Ella Watkins of Suches, GA; sister, Lula Mae Parker of Suches, GA; sister, Effie Lou Blackburn of Blairsville, GA; grandchildren, Christopher Gregory, Carrie Rollins, Chadwick Gregory, Shannon Gregory, Bo Robert Eddleson, Stacy Eddleman and Victor Eddleman; great grandchildren: Courtney Rollins, Tiffany Eddleman, Kerby Eddleman and Colton Eddleman.

Funeral services were held Friday, January 13, 2006 at 2 PM from the Chapel of the Cochran Funeral Home with Rev. Tommy Jones and Rev. Paul Carder officiating.  Interment followed in Union Memory Gardens Cemetery.  Special music was presented by The New Life Signers and The Parker Family.  Serving as pallbearers were the following gentlemen: Chris Gregory, Bo Eddleman, Vic Eddleman, Doyle Carder, Chad Gregory and Charlie Gregory, Jr.  Honorary pallbearers include: Shannon Gregory and Robert L. Head.  Friends called at the funeral home on Thursday, January 12th, from 6-9 PM.
