ms. ruby estelle davis warren

 

Ms. Ruby Estelle Davis Warren, age 87, of Suches, passed away on Tuesday, December 28, 1999 in the Union County Nursing Home following an extended illness.  Ms. Warren was born on January 10, 1912 in Marietta, Georgia the daughter of the late William Jackson Davis and the late Rhoda Jane Gilbert Davis.  She was a member of the Coopers Creek Baptist Church and a lifelong resident of Fannin and Union Counties.  She was preceded in death by her son, Johnny Warren.

Survivors include two daughters and son in laws, Vinnie Ruth and James Pirkle of Suches, Redia Mae and Mack Stephens of Blairsville; daughter-in-law, Bernice Warren; four sisters, Earie Mason of Hampton, GA, Lillie Watts of Dahlonega, Mary Moore of Suches, Daisy Yonts of Suches; two brothers, William Davis of Blue Ridge Denver Davis of Suches; twelve grand-children, thirty-three great grandchildren, one great great grandchild and many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, December 30, 1999 at 2 p.m. from the Mountain View Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Brent Chatham officiating.  Special music was presented by the Kelley Trio.   The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Hoyt Stephens, Davis Warren, James R. Pirkle, Ronald B. Pirkle, Rex. W. Pirkle, and Craig Dyer.

Interment followed in the Union Memory Gardens.

MRs. cathy burrell chitwood

 

Mrs. Cathy Burrell Chitwood, age 39, of Oak tree Village, Blairsville, Georgia passed away on Tuesday, January 11, 2000.  In the North East Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville following an extended illness.  Mrs. Chitwood was a lifelong resident of Union County and was a member of Victory Baptist Church.  Mrs. Chitwood was born on February 15, 1960 in clay County, NC.  The daughter of the late Neil Burrell.  She was preceded in death by her father, Neil Burrell and tow brothers, Hoyt and J.B. Burrell.

Survivors include her mother, Mattie Mae Burrell, of Blairsville; one daughter, Jackie Chitwood, of Blairsville; four sisters, Betty Jean Lovell, of Blairsville, Joann Garrett of Hayesville, NC., Nancy Carpenter, of Blairsville, Sarah Lou Young, of Blairsville; six brothers, Maurice (Bud) Burrell, of Blairsville, Ben Burrell of Blairsville, Glenn Burrell, of Blairsville, Phillip Burrell, of Dalton, Terry Burrell, of Blairsville, Carroll Burrell, of Blairsville, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, January 13, 2000 from the Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Brent Chatham officiating.  Special music was presented by the Faith Singers.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Jonathan Burrell, John  Demar, Ethan Allen, Tommy Junior, Michael, and Christopher Lovell.  Interment followed in the Woods Grove Cemetery in Towns County.

MR. gene foster

 

Mr. Gene Foster, age 60, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Monday, January 3, 2000 in Union General Hospital in Blairsville.

Mr. Foster was born in Union County, Georgia, on Saturday, February 4, 1939, a son of the late Earnest Foster and Ora Reece Foster.  He was a retired school bus driver and was a member of New Harmony Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Joyce Smith Foster of Blairsville; daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Ernie Pruitt of Suches; daughter and son-in-law, Diane and Stacy Dyer of Blairsville; and daughter, Regina Foster of Blairsville; son and daughter-in-law Shawn and Angela Foster of Blairsville; sisters, Margie and Sue Sparks of Blairsville; brothers, Earnest and Jack Foster, both of Panama City, Florida; and Marion Foster of Blairsville; five grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, January 5, 2000 at 2 pm from the chapel of Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville with Rev. Horace Potts and Rev. Kenny Beaver officiating.  Special music was presented by Stacy Dyer and Paul Scales.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Lamar Underwood, Ronald Burns, Eugene Pope, Alex Foster, Darren Sparks, and Robbie Brown.  The following gentlemen served as honorary escort to the family: Doug Pruitt, Daniel Pruitt, and Derick Pruitt.  Burial was in New Harmony Baptist Church Cemetery.

MRs. mary y. shemasek

 

Mrs. Mary Y. Shemasek, age 92, of Miami, FL., and a native of Charleroi, PA, passed away Wednesday, January 12, 2000 following a period of declining health.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Shemasek.

Mary had been a reporter, traveler and until recently an avid reader.  She is survived by daughter, Joanne of Blairsville, grandson Thomas of Blairsville, and Patrick of Savannah, and three great grandchildren, sister, Louise Zuraw of Bellevernow, PA.

Mary moved to Blairsville two years ago and loved this little town and the beautiful mountains.  She will be greatly missed by her loving family and Ferqus, the dog.  She attended St. Louis Catholic Church in Kendall, FL and will be interred at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Blairsville.

Mountain View Funeral Home of Blairsville was in charge of the arrangements.

MR. Alan richard tirmenstein

 

Mr. Alan Richard Tirmenstein, 76, passed away quietly in his sleep Tuesday, January 11, 2000 at his home in Lakeside Village.  He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII, and was from Indiana where he had received both his under-graduate and graduate degrees.  He retired from the Florida School System in Jacksonville as a Chemistry teacher in 1986, and had made his home with his loving wife of 38 years, Betty Byrd Tirmenstein, in Blairsville, GA.

He is survived by his wife and their five married children and four grandchildren.

A memorial service was held in his honor, Friday, January 14th at the Mountain View Funeral Home where his good friend jack Fullenton officiated.

Louise l. rusk

 

Louise L. Rusk, age 86, formerly of Blairsville, GA, died in a retirement home in Toccoa on December 27, 1999.

She is survived by one son, James Rush who lives in Maryland; one sister, Jeannette Estes of Homestead, FL; one sister-in-law Harriet Rush of Blairsville, GA; five grandchildren and two great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews in the north Georgia area also survive.

Ms. leona bayne pollard

 

Ms. Leona Bayne Pollard, age 84 of Sweetheart Lane, Blairsville, passed away on Saturday, January 1, 2000 at her home following an extended illness.  Ms. Pollard was born on January 6, 1914 in Palmetto, FL, the daughter of the late Levi Daniel Jones and the late Nettie Bayne Moore Jones.  Ms. Pollard had worked for Eastern Airlines for several years.

Surviving include one daughter and son in law; Patricia and Ray Taylor of Blairsville; two sons, Michael Pollard of Houston, TX., Peter Hall Pollard of Sebrig, FL.; nine grandchildren, many other friends and relatives also survive.

Memorial services will be announced at a later date.
