Dora L.
Woody, age 67, of Cornelia, Georgia passed
away on Tuesday, January 11, 2011.
Ms. Woody
was born
on June 27, 1943, in Union County, GA to the late Fred and Liller
Helton
woody. She was also preceded in death by
her former husband, Curtis Jones and her brother, Bill Woody. Ms. Woody was a retired employee of Fieldale
Processing Plant with 33 years of service.
She was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include her son and his
life partner, Scot Jones and Robert Adames, of Lawrenceville, GA;
sister,
Lorene Morgan, Blairsville, GA; sister and brother-in-law, Wanda and
Bill
Trotter, Clarkesville, GA; brother and sister-in-law, James and Wanda
Woody,
Baldwin, GA; and several nieces and nephews.

and friends also survive.
Memorial services were scheduled for
4 p.m. on Sunday, January 16, 2011, at Whitfield Funeral Home, South
Chapel,
Baldwin, GA with Rev. Nicholas Thomas and Rev. Bill Trotter officiating.

Mrs.
Betty Meroline
Lanham age 69, of Spain Hill Circle, Gainesville formerly of Blairs
ville (sic)
passed away on Wednesday Jan. 12, 2011 in the NEGA Medical Center
following a
brief illness. Mrs. Lanham was born on
July 1,1941 in Union County, the daughter of the late Will King and the
late
Azalee Duvall King. She was preceded in
death by a daughter, Angela Gayle Gribble in 1974, an infant sister,
Alleen
King and a brother, Bill King in 2001. Mrs.
Lanham retired with the City of Gainesville in 2002 due to illness
after
fifteen years of service as a Social Worker.
Her greatest hobbies were writing poetry and growing flowers. Mrs. Lanham was a member of Ebenezer Baptist
Church in Blairsville.
Surviving
Mrs.
Lanham are two sons and one daughter-in-law, Chris Gribble of Austell,
GA, Jeff
and Lynn Gribble of Alpharetta, two brothers and sisters-in-law,
Charles and
Mary Jo King of Young Harris, Cecil and Ann King of Warne, NC, two
nephews,
David King of Gainesville, GA and Dustin King of Gainesville, four
grandchildren, Darin Gribble, Justin Gribble, Rachel Cochran and Renea
Goode,
five great-grandchildren, Bryson Watkins, Grant and Cooper Cochran,
Jayda
Merchant and Harper Goode, many other relatives and friends also
survive.
Funeral
services were
held on Sunday Jan. 16, 2011 at 2 p.m. from the Mountain View Chapel
with the
Rev. R.L. Martin officiating. Special
music was presented by Larry Nichols and Dayton Dyer. The
following gentleman served as pallbearers,
Michael and Jeremy Duvall, David and Dustin King, William Cochran and
Adam
Goode. Serving as honorary pallbearers
were
Darin and Justin Gribble, Rachel Cochran and Renea Goode. Interment
followed in
the Ebenezer Baptist Church Cemetery. The
family met with friends at the funeral home on Saturday evening from
6-9 p.m.

Mr.
Joseph Gene
Stophel, age 76, of Young Harris Hwy. Blairsville, passed away on
Wednesday
January 12, 2011 at Union General Hospital following an extended
illness. Mr.
Stophel was born on June 19, 1934 in Cleveland, OH, the son of the late
Joseph
George Stophel and the late Mary A. Kaser. Joseph
had lived in the are (sic) since 1987,
moving here from Florida. He served as
Deputy and School Resource Officer for the Union County Sheriff’s
Department
for over ten years. He was the Director
of Resource Officers for region 3. He
loved working with the children in Union County and received numerous
awards
and recognitions during his service. Joseph
also worked for Westinghouse Elevator and was an Honorary Member of
IUEC #74 in
1989. He was also a member of the
Alleghany Masonic Lodge #114. He is
preceded in death by his sister and brother-in-law Sarah and Larry
Amlong, his
grandson Justin Stophel and his first wife Barbara Stophel. Joe was a member of Immanuel (sic) House
Christian Worship Center.

Stophel are his wife Jane Stophel of Blairsville, four sons and

on Saturday January 15, 2011 at 4 p.m. from the Mountain View Chapel

Reverend Alan Becker officiating. Members
of the Union County Sheriffs Dept. served as honorary pallbearers. Allegheny Masonic Lodge #114 F&AM will
conduct Masonic Rites. The family met
with friends from 2-4 p.m. on Saturday. In
lieu of flowers, if you wish, the family asks that memorials be made to
Emmanuel House in memory of Mr. Stophel.

Mrs.
Carol Jean
Shorey, age 85, of Riverview Rd., Blairsville, passed away on Friday
Jan. 14, 2011
in the Union General Hospital following an extended illness. Mrs. Shorey was born on Sept. 8, 1925 in
Italy, the daughter of the late Severio Traini and the late Martha
Cortellisi
Traini. She loved animals, to knit,
paint and making jewelry. She was very
talented
in everything she did. She was a loving
wife, mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother. She
was preceded in death by a sister, Rita
Bisol. Mrs. Shorey was of the Congregationalist faith.

Shorey are her loving husband of sixty-three years, Robert Shorey of
Blairsville, one daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Samuel Thornley

Blairsville, one son and daughter-in-law, Edward and Cindy Shorey of
