Mr. Ben
L. Neece, age 87, of Blairsville, GA, passed Sunday, January 10, 2010
at his
home.
Ben was
born Friday, February 10, 1922, in Montague County,
TX, the son of the late Ben L. Neece, Sr. and the late Margaret Emma
Morris
Neece. He had served in the U.S. Army
during World War II, and was a former U.S. Border Patrol officer,
former U.S.
Deputy Marshall, and a pioneer in the field of Automotive Air
Conditioning and
the refrigerated trucking industry. Ben
was a member of Antioch Baptist Church and was a member of Allegheny
Masonic
Lodge, 3114, F&AM.
Surviving
family members include his daughter, Carolyn Naomi Neece Vaughn, of
Fowler, CO;
son, Tommy Gerald Neece of Farmersville, TX; son, Ben Richard Neece,
and son,
Robert Duane Neece, both of Brownsville, TX; son, Phillip Bensen Neece
and son
Kenneth Raymond Neece, both of Gainesville, GA; twelve grandchildren
and four
great grandchildren also survive.
Graveside
services were held Friday, January 15, 2010, at 2 p.m. from Antioch
Baptist
Church Cemetery. Military Honors were
presented by North Georgia Honor Guard, and members of the Allegheny
Masonic
Lodge served as pallbearers and conferred Masonic graveside rites.
The family
received friends at Cochran Funeral Home in Blairsville on Friday,
January 15,
2010, from 11:30, until 1:30 p.m. The
family
has requested that memorial contributions be directed to the American
Red
Cross.

Mrs.
Elaine Joan Champlin, age 77, of Saltaire Drive, Blairsville, passed
away on
Saturday, Jan. 16, 2010 at her home following an extended illness. Mrs. Champlin was born on Aug. 10 1932 in bay
Shore, NY, the daughter of the late Charles Vesely and the late Emily
Horal
Vesely. Before her retirement she had
been employed as a librarian with the Union County School System for
over
twelve years. She loved collecting
cookbooks
and pigs. She was preceded in death by
her husband and the love of her life, Walter f. Champlin and also by a
daughter, Brenda Linna who passed away Jan. 2, 2010 of this year. She was a loving mother, sister, grandmother
and great grandmother. Mrs. Champlin
attended the Blairsville church of the Nazarene.
Surviving Mrs.
Champlin are two sons and one daughter-in-law, James Champlin of
Blairsville,
Walter and Vickie Champlin of Jasper, one brother and sister-in-law,
Charles
and Charlotte Vesely of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, four grandchildren, Debra
Womack of
Martin, GA, Valerie Randell of Jasper, Joshua Champlin of W. Palm
Beach, FL,
Wesley Champlin of Jasper, GA, one great-grandchild, Morgan Champlin,
many
other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral
services will be held on Friday, Jan. 22, 2010 from the Mountain View
Chapel
with the Rev. Danny Bohler officiating. Serving
as pallbearers will be family and friends.

Mrs.
Bessie Evelyn Green, age 84, of Newton Circle, Blairsville passed away
on
Sunday, Jan. 10, 2010 in the Union General Hospital following a brief
illness. Mrs. Green was born on Aug. 10,
1915 in Dayton, OH, the daughter of the late Henry Clay Gentner and the
late
Bessie Lee Nora Samons Gentner. She was
a loving mother and grandmother. She was
preceded in death by her husband, Maurice Green in 1990.
Mrs. Green attended Revival Baptist Church.
Surviving Mrs.
Green are one daughter and son-in-law, Dixie and Howard Peeling of
Blairsville,
two grandchildren, Donald Peeling and Nora Lawn, two great
grandchildren,
Jillian and Brady Lawn, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Farrell Rich, age 67, of Flowery Branch, GA, formerly of Blairsville
passed
away January 15, at his home after an extended illness.
Sidney was born on March 14, 1942 in Union
County. He was the son of the late Cecil
E. & Willene Jackson Rich.
Surviving Mr.
Rich are one son and daughter-in-law, Cary & Robin Rich; two
grandsons,
Jonathon & Joshua; one granddaughter, Jordan; three sisters, Dobie
Brackett, Jackie Colwell & Claudine Thomas.
Mr. Rich was preceded in death by a brother Bennie Rich.

Mr.
Virgil Elwood DeNyke, Jr., age 85, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away
Friday,
January 8, 2010, in Union General Hospital in Blairsville.
Mr.
DeNyke was born Monday April 27, 1925 In Danbury,
Connecticut, a son of the late Virgil Elwood DeNyke, Sr., and Elizabeth
Grover
DeNyke. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of
World War II, and a member of the Veteran’s of Foreign Wars and The
Disabled
American Veterans. Mr. DeNyke was of the
Methodist faith.
Surviving
family members include his wife, Mildred B. DeNyke, of Blairsville;
four sons:
James DeNyke, of Oviedo, Florida; Robert DeNyke of Cortez, Colorado;
Paul
DeNyke, of St. Petersburg, Florida; and Edward Henley, of Cortez,
Colorado;
daughters: Sharon McCloud, of Walnut Creek, California; Jodie Henley,
of
Cortez, Colorado; and Kathy Mayfield, of Williamson, Georgia; Aunt,
Leona
Collins, of Ocala, Florida; eight grandchildren; thirteen great
grandchildren,
and two great great grandsons also survive, along with several nieces
and
nephews. Mr. DeNyke had been preceded in
death by his parents; a son, Douglas DeNyke; step-mother, Fern DeNyke;
and
step-sister, Joann Redding.
Funeral
services were held Thursday, January 14, 2010 at 11 a.m. from the
Chapel of
Cochran Funeral Home with Rev. Tommy Jenkins officiating.
Special music was presented for the service
by Ebenezer Baptist church Choir. The
following gentlemen served as pallbearers:

Dean Littles Sr., age 58 of Ross Ridge Rd., Blairsville passed away on

Jan. 17, 2010 following a brief illness.
Mr. Littles was born on Nov. 12, 1951 in Haines City, FL, the

late Edward Littles and the late Margaret Waters Littles.
He retired in 2000 as a Safety Director with
the United States Sugar Corporation. He
was a loving husband, father, brother and grandfather.

Bruce
Lee Meeks, 79, of Blairsville, GA, passed away Thursday, January 14,
2010, due
to an extended illness. Mr.
Meeks was born June 7, 1930 in Lakeland,
Florida, the son of Troy and Wanda Meeks.
Following graduation from Manatee County High School in 1948, he
entered
the U.S. Navy and served aboard the USS Cutlass. Following
4 years in the Navy, Mr. Meeks attended
the University of Florida. After
graduation in 1956 he was employed by Bell South Telephone Company and
retired
in 1987. He loved the outdoors and
enjoyed hunting, fishing, and working in his yard, as well as being a
great
“do-it-yourselfer”. During his
retirement in the beautiful north Georgia mountains, he and his devoted
wife of
56 years, the former Carolyn Meeker of Bradenton, Florida, enjoyed
traveling
with the Sunny Peaches group. Bruce was
pre-deceased by his parents and only sibling Marinez Rideout.
In addition
to his wife Bruce is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Troy and
Lori
Meeks of Woodstock, GA; daughter and son-in-law, Marifae and Frank
Jones of
Avondale Estates, GA; and grandsons, Harrison and Parker Meeks of
Woodstock,
GA. Bruce was a loving gentle man and
was always very proud and devoted to his family and many friends.
A
memorial service was held Tuesday, January 19, 2010 at
11:00 a.m. in the chapel of A.S. Turner & Sons, 2773 North Decatur
Rd.,
Decatur, GA with Rev. Brad Greene officiating.

Larue Rich, age 54, of Murphy Highway, Blairsville, passed away on
Wednesday,
Jan. 13, 2010 at Southern Regional Hospital following an extended
illness. Mr. Rich was born on September
27, 1955 in
Columbus, GA to Otis and Grapell Rich.
Justin was a veteran of the army (sic), serving as an army fire
control
director in the military for sixteen years.
Justin liked to travel. He was a
loving son, father, brother and grandfather.
Mr. Rich was of the Baptist faith.

Mr. Evan
Clyde Bruce, age 71, of Nichols Circle, Blairsville, passed away on
Friday,
Jan. 15, 2010 at his home following a brief illness.
Mr. Bruce was born on May 10, 1938 in Union
County, the son of the late Willard Bruce and the late Winnie Ann Odom. He was a native and lifelong resident of
Union County. He was a member of the
Young Cane Lodge #597. He worked for the
Tennessee Copper Company and the Union County Recreation Department. Evan was a loving husband, father, brother,
stepfather and grandfather. He was
preceded in death by a son, Ronald Bruce and his first wife, Hazel
Nichols
Bruce. Mr. Bruce was a member of the New
Union Baptist Church.
Surviving Mr.
Bruce are his loving wife of almost ten years, Linda Weldon Bruce of
Blairsville, a stepdaughter and son-in-law, Deanna and Wade Teems of
Blairsville, three brothers, three sisters, two brothers-in-law, and
two
sisters-in-law, Wayne and Dorothy Bruce of Blue Ridge, David and Janice

Henry
Alexander Bingham, 82, died Wednesday, January 13, 2010.
Born in
Blairsville, GA, he was the son of the late David
Joel and Rosa Lee Osborne Bingham. In
addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Vivian
Youngblood
Bingham, children, Rachael Doster, Henry Lewis Bingham and Ellen
Tanksley. He retired from Chicopee Mills
in Athens as
well as a Deputy Sheriff in Banks County.

Mr. Neil
Francis Gillooly, age 86, of Captain’s Cove, Blairsville, passed away
on
Friday, January 15, 2010 at his home following an extended illness. Mr. Gillooly was born on August 20, 1923 in
Williamstown, MA, the son of the late William Edward Gillooly and the
late
Katherine Agnes Doherty Gillooly. He was
a veteran of the US Army of WWII. Neil
was a member of the Union County Lions Club, the American Legion and
VFW. Neil enjoyed playing golf, painting,
wood
working and calligraphy and was also a cartoonist.
He was retired from the North Adams Police
Department after over forty years of service and was Captain for over
fifteen
years. He was preceded in death by a
son, Neil Matthew Gillooly, sister, Anna Kinney, brother, William
Gillooly. Mr. Gillooly was of the
Catholic faith.
Surviving Mr.
Gillooly are his wife of 42 years Ruth Vivian (Roberts) Gillooly and
nine
children, Stephen Gillooly of Williamstown, MA, Christopher Gillooly
and Bonnie
Hayden of North Adams, MA, Deborah and Larry Salo of Odenton, MD, Kurt
and
Wendy Accetta of Charlotte, NC, Vanessa and Christian Morris of Canton,
GA,
Christine and William Carruthers of Charlotte, NC, Anthony Accetta of
Myrtle
Beach, SC, Patrick and Linda Accetta of Somersworth, NH, Ruth Hamelin
of
Pittsfield, MA, sixteen grandchildren, three great-grandchildren. Many other relatives and friends also

Mr. Bymon
Helton, age 81, of Helton Drive,
Suches,
GA passed away on Wednesday Jan. 13, 2020 following an extended illness. Mr. Helton was born on Feb. 17, 1928 in Union
County, the son of the late Floyd Helton and the late Fannie Thomason
Helton. He was a veteran of the US Army
of the Korean war. He was a native and
lifelong
resident of Union County. Bymon was a
loving husband, father, brother and grandfather. He
was preceded in death by five sisters,
Myrtle Head, Betty Jo Pierce, Lucille Stanford, Bertha Hope and Lillian
Gooch
and by a brother, Doyle Helton. Mr.
Helton was a Deacon and member of Mt. Pleasant #2 Baptist Church in
Suches.

Helton are his loving wife of fifty-three years, Gerlene Hyde Helton of
