Mrs. Ethel Wimpey, age 93, of Blairsville,
Georgia, passed away Monday, January 11, 1999 in Union General Hospital
in
Blairsville.
Mrs. Wimpey
was born in Union County, Georgia on Thursday, February 2, 1905, a daughter of the late Jim Collins and Dora
graham
Collins. She was a homemaker and a
lifelong resident of this area. Mrs.
Wimpey was a member of Old Liberty Baptist Church.
Survivors
include her husband, Everett Wimpey, of Blairsville; daughter, Jozene
Thomas of
Conyers, Georgia; son, J.E. Wimpey, of Lawrenceville; and son, Jurrell
Wimpey,
of Jonesboro, Georgia; sister, Bonnie Lance, of Blairsville, Georgia;
six
grandchildren also survive, along with friends and other relatives.
Funeral
services were held Wednesday, January 13, 1999 at 1
p.m. from Old Liberty Baptist Church with Rev. Guy Bradley officiating. Special music was presented by The Old
Liberty Church Choir. The following
gentlemen served as pallbearers: Eugene Collins, J.D. Seabolt, Bill
England,
A.J. Collins, Johnny Brown and Kelly Thomas.

Mrs.,
Ruby Pauline Brown, age 83, of Young Harris, Georgia, passed away
Saturday,
January 9, 1999 in a Towns County, Georgia Nursing Home.
She was a
native of Union County, Georgia. She was
a homemaker and a member of Gum Log Baptist Church in Young Harris,
Georgia. She was the daughter of the
late Jesse and Ivy Powell Phillips. She
was preceded in death by her husband James Mild Brown and brother
Earl Phillips and sister Wilma Reece.
Surviving
are one son Ray Brown of Monticello, Georgia; one brother Joe Phillips
of Young
Harris, Georgia; two grandchildren and one great granddaughter.
Funeral
services were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, January 12,
1999 at the Townson Rose frank Rose Sr. Memorial Chapel in Hayesville,
North
Carolina. The Rev. Willis Garrett will
officiate. Burial will be in the
Ebenezer Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mr.
Luther Thomas Wood, age 74, of Blairsville, Georgia, formerly of
Oglethorpe
County, Georgia, passed away Thursday, January 14, 1999, in Fannin
Regional
Hospital in Blue Ridge, Georgia.
Mr. Wood
was born in Banks County, Georgia, on Saturday, March 29, 1924, a son
of the
late Artis Arthur Wood and Ethel Sanders Wood.
He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran, having served in both
the European
and Asiatic Theatres. He worked for many
years as an engineer with the Georgia Department of Transportation. He retired in 1978. Mr.
Wood had been very active in Baptist
churches during his lifetime; serving as a deacon, trustee, church
treasurer,
and on building committee. At the time
of his death, he was a member of Pine Top Baptist Church.
Mr. Wood had been preceded in death by a son,
Alex Tilden Wood, in 1985.
Survivors
include his wife, Lois Fields Wood, of Blairsville, who has ancestral
ties to
Union County; son and daughter in law, Keith A. and Judy Wood, of
Cartersville,
Georgia, GA., son and daughter in law, Eric T. and Cindy Wood, of
Blairsville,
GA., sisters: Bonnie S. Bridges, of Warner Robbins, GA., and Joyce
Grimes, of
Harlem, GA., five grandchildren: Aaron wood, Stephanie Wood,
Christopher Wood,
all of Cartersville, and Rachael Wood and Jared Wood, of Blairsville.
Funeral
services were held Saturday, January 16, 1999 at 2 p.m. from Pine Top
Baptist
Church, with Rev. Jimmy Tanner and Mr. Wood’s son, Rev. Keith A. Wood
officiating. Interment was in the church

Mr.
Hershel Everett, age 80, of Powder Springs, Georgia, formerly of
Blairsville,
Georgia, passed away Friday, January 15, 1999 in Cobb General Hospital
in
Austell, Georgia.
Mr. Everett
was born in Union County, Georgia, on Sunday, October 20, 1918, a son
of the
late John Everett and Rebecca Galloway Everett.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corp. and served during WWII. Mr. Everett was a retired truck driver, and
had lived in Cobb County the past 38 years.
He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church of Powder Springs.
Survivors
include his wife, Nina Ree Jones Everett, of Powder Springs, Georgia,
sons:
Donald Everett and Arlene Everett, both of Marietta; Terry Everett of
Hiawassee, daughters: Helen Smith, of Snowcap, NC; Shirley Stockton, of
Marietta; Doris Kidd, of Smyrna, GA., and Becky McClain, of Powder
Springs, GA;
sister, Myrtle Mason, of Blairsville; 19 grandchildren, 18 great
grandchildren,
and one great great grandchild also survive, along with many friends
and other
relatives.

services were held Monday, January 18, 1999 at 11
a.m. from the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville, with Rev.
Tommy
Jones and Rev. Horace Potts officiating.
Special music was presented by Ken and Elaine Young. The following gentlemen served as
pallbearers: Rob Stockton, B.J. Kidd, Adam Everett, Chris Everett, Eric
Mitchell, and Kenny Smith. Interment was
in Kennesaw memorial Cemetery in Marietta.

Mrs.
Anna Elisabeth Stinton, age 63, of Blairsville, Georgia passed away
Wednesday,
January 13, 1999 at her home.
Mrs.
Stinton was born Tuesday, July 16, 1935 in Germany, a daughter of the
late
Fritz and Hedwig Reicherd. She had been
living in Blairsville since 1993, coming here from Bradenton, Florida.
Survivors
include her husband, Ray Stinton, of Blairsville; son, Larry Stinton,
Daine
Raguth, of Sarasota, FL., and Michelle Duke, of Charleston, SC.,
sister, Renate
Compton, of Sarasota, Florida; six grandchildren also survive.

Juan
Evans Jones, age 83, of Hayesville, North Carolina died Wednesday,
January 13,
1999 at a Fulton County, Georgia hospital.
He was a
native of Union County, Georgia. He was
a US World War II navy Veteran. Juan was
the owner and operator of Jones Ford Company for twenty-one years and
the owner
and operator of Jones Camper Sales for the past nineteen years. He was the son of the late Arthur and Aria
Nicholson Jones.
Surviving are his wife Margaret
Wellborn Jones; two sons and their
wives Jimmy and Linda Jones of Blairsville, GA; and Jacky and Patsy
Jones of
Young Harris, GA; one brother R.F. Jones of Peoria, IL; two
grandchildren Bobby
and his wife Kimberly Jones and Jacquelynne Jones; and step
grandchildren Ryan
England and Wesley England.
Funeral
services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, January 16, 1999 at the Old
Union
Baptist Church in Young Harris, GA, where he was a member.
The Reverend Jimmy Rogers, Reverend Johnny
Foster and Reverend Lester Sutton officiated.
Burial was in the Old Union Baptist Church cemetery in Young
Harris,
GA. Pallbearers were Bill Mull, Bob
Esley, Bobby Bristol, Paul Phillips, Dickie Dills, Ed Cantrell and
Wayne

Wayland Mason, age 59, of Blairsville, Georgia passed away Thursday,

14, 1999 in the veteran’s hospital in Atlanta.
Mr. Mason
was born Wednesday, January 10, 1940, in Union County, Georgia, a son
of the
late Oscar Wayland mason, Sr., and Lorene Bryant Mason.
He was a veteran of the U.s. Army and served
during the Vietnam War. He was a
lifelong resident of this area, and was a Charter member of the
Blairsville
Jaycees. Mr. mason
was a member of Providence Methodist Church.
Survivors
include his wife, Pat Mason, of Blairsville; daughter and son in law,
Sondra
and Steve George, of Blairsville; son and daughter in law, Tim and
Stephanie
Mason of Cleveland, Ga., son David Mason of Cedartown, GA., and
daughter, Sherry
Peterson, of Blairsville; brothers: Charles Mason, of Blairsville, and
Baxter
Mason, of Duluth, GA., sisters: patsy Cook, of Duluth, GA., and
Jennifer Burns,
of Erwin, TN., 7 grandchildren also survive, along with many friends

p.m. from Providence Methodist Church, with Rev. Ryan Seawright and Dr.

by Rosella Williams and Angle Wilson. The

She was a
native of Russia. She was a
homemaker. Pauline was the daughter of

was preceded in death by her husband
Fredrick Fischer.
Surviving are one son Rudolph

Truett Glenn Brackett, age 72, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away
Tuesday,
January 12, 1999 in Baptist Hospital in Nashville, Tennessee.
Mr.
Brackett was born in Union County, Georgia, on Monday, September 27,
1926, a
son of the late Burley bracket and Maude Rich Brackett.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served
during World War II. He was a lifelong
resident of Union Count, Georgia and was a member of Bunker Hill
Baptist
Church.
Survivors
include his wife, Lucille Sawyer Brackett, of Blairsville, son and
daughter in
law, Charles R. and Rachel Brackett; son and daughter in law, Kenneth
Earl and
Vickie Brackett, all of Blairsville; sisters: Sharon Hill of Nashville,
TN.,
Mavin Owenby, of Dalton, Ga., and Glennis Gibson, of Rocky face, GA.,
