mrs. marietta terranova
 
Mrs. Marietta Terranova, age 93 of Wesley Mountain Drive, Blairsville passed away on Tuesday, January 13, 2004 in the Union General Hospital following an extended illness.
Mrs. Terranova was born on November 23, 1910 in Newark, NJ, the daughter of the late Emilio Solimine and the late Catherine Corbo Solimine.  She had made her home in Blairsville for the past three years, moving here from Palm City, FL.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Terranova in 1989.  Mrs. Terranova was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church.
Surviving Mrs. Terranova are three sons and daughter-in-laws, Emil and Charlotte Terranova of Blairsville, GA, Frank and Pamela Terranova of Blairsville, GA, Thomas and Anne Terranova of Manasquan, NJ; one sister, Helen Solimine of NJ; one grandchild, Katherine Terranova; many other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, January 14, 2004 at 3 p.m. from St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church with Father Thad Rudd officiating.  Interment followed in the Forest Hills Memorial Park Cemetery in Palm City, FL on Friday, January 16, 2004 at 3 p.m.

mrs. edna grace abercrombie gregory
 
Mrs. Edna Grace Abercrombie Gregory, age 77 of Gregory Lane, Blairsville passed away on Saturday, January 17, 2004 at her home following a brief illness.
Mrs. Gregory was born on January 7, 1927 in Union County, the daughter of the late Jennings Abercrombie and the late Vanzie Grizzle Abercrombie.  She was a native and lifelong resident of Union County and had been employed for over forty five years with the Union County School System until her retirement.  She was preceded in death by a daughter, Sharon Gregory in 2001.  Mrs. Gregory was a member of the Antioch Baptist Church.
Surviving Mrs. Gregory are two sons and daughters-in-law, Charlie, Jr. and Jenni Gregory of Blairsville, and Lindsay and Cathy Gregory of Ellijay, GA; one daughter, Joy Gregory of Conyers, GA; one brother, Johnny Bill Abercrombie of Suches; one sister, Betty Marie McIntyre of Cleveland, GA; six grand-children, Chuck, Josh, Tyler and Kyle Gregory, Derek Stephens and Dana Stephens-Craig; many other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral services were held on Monday, January 19, 2004 at 2 p.m. from the Antioch Baptist Church with Rev. George Cline and Rev. Billy Rabern officiating.  Special music was presented by Patsy Davenport, Debbie Owenby and Danita Kennedy.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Lindsay Gregory, Charlie Gregory Jr., Derek Stephens, Tyler and Josh Gregory, and Will Craig.  Interment followed in the Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery.

mr. william (bill) watson mosley
 
Mr. William (better known as Bill) Watson Mosley, age 67 of Earl Patterson Road, Blairsville passed away on Friday, January 16, 2004 at his home following a brief illness.
Mr. Mosley was born on June 6, 1936 in Harlan, KY, the son of the late William Mosley, Sr. and the late Elma Ward Mosley.  He was self employed as a carpet installer where he had worked in the Union County area for several years.  He was a veteran of the U.S. Marines of the Korean War.  Mr. Mosley was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving Mr. Mosley are his loving wife of forty three years, Katherine Patterson Mosley of Blairsville; one daughter and son-in-law, Debra and Kevin Womack of Virginia Beach, VA; two sons and daughters-in-law, Curtis and Janie Mosley of Epworth, and Michael and Dianne Mosley of Cleveland, GA; seven grandchildren, Mitch and Michaela, Matthew, Catie and William Mosley, Emily and Nathan Womack; many other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral services were held on Sunday, January 18, 2004 from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Guy Wayne Shook officiating.  Special music was presented by Derrick, Daniel, Barbara and Debbie Moss.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Derrick and Daniel Moss, Jeff, Curtis and Dale Underwood, David Payne, Gerald and Jimmy Patterson and Jonathan Adams.  Interment followed in the Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery.

ms. mary sue rogers saunders
 
Ms. Saunders completed a brave and gracious life on January 11, 2004 that began on February 4th in Blairsville, GA.  A longtime resident of the Steele Creek and Sharon Communities in Charlotte, Ms. Saunders was retired from Host Marriott Corporation at Charlotte International Airport.
She was deeply devoted to her family: Curtis and Elaine Saunders and granddaughter, Emily, of Mint Hill, NC; Charles Saunders of Charlotte, NC; Steven and Mary De Hoyos of Arlington, VA; and sisters Ruby Collins of Blairsville, GA and Jonnie Lumsden of Morrow, GA.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas F. Rogers and Jessie Elizabeth Rogers, and her brother, Robert Rogers.
Those who loved her will seek comfort in the memory of her kind spirit, strong faith and gentle wisdom.
The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 p.m. Saturday, January 17, at Choestoe Baptist Church in Blairsville, GA.  A memorial service will follow at 2 p.m. in the church sanctuary.  Private interment was in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Alma Rene Young Dills, age 101, of Mt. Pleasant Church Road in Blairsville, passed away on Friday, January 16, 2004 in the Union General Hospital following an extended illness.   Mrs. Dills was born on Jan. 3, 1903 in Cherokee County, N.C., the daughter of the late Henry Young and the late America E. Mason Young.  She was a lifelong resident of Union County.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Phillip Lee Dills in 1950 and also by four sons, James Dills, Milas, Silas and Harley Payne.  Mrs. Dills was a member of the Providence Methodist Church.
Surviving Mrs. Dills are three daughters and sons-in-law, Madlen and Anglish McGugan of West Minister, S.C., Bertha and Hal Crisp of Blairsville, Mary and Jack Smart of Hayesville; two sons and daughters-in-law, Glenn and Rose Dills of Griffin, GA., Wayne and Bonnie Dills of Lawrenceville, GA; daughter-in-law, Carol Dills; two sisters, Alean Teague of Blairsville, Grace Christopher of Gastonia, N.C; twenty eight grandchildren; eighteen great-great grandchildren; many other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral services were held on Sunday, January 18, 2004 at 1:00 pm from the Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Tommy Jones and Rev. Jerry Helton officiating.  Special music was presented by Freddie Burrell and the Kelly Trio.  The following gentlemen served as Pallbearers, Jimmy and Russell Messimer, Wayne Dills, Jr., Raymond Payne, Herbert Teague and Vince Almoina.  Interment followed in the Mt. Pleasant Church Cemetery.

james “jim” melvin m_ccarter
 
Mr. James (better known as Jim) Melvin McCarter, age 54, of McCarter Hill in Blairsville passed away on Sunday in Sevierville, TN., following a brief illness.  Mr. McCarter was born on March 27, 1949 in Fannin County, the son of the late William Howard McCarter and the late Pauline Clara Young McCarter.  He was a lifelong resident of Union County and owned and operated Gun Log Movers for over twenty years.  He was a veteran of the US Navy, having served in the Vietnam war.  Mr. McCarter was a member of the Antioch Baptist Church.
Surviving Mr. McCarter are his loving wife, Lillian Jones McCarter of Blairsville; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Jimmy and Tonya McCarter of Blairsville, Jay McCarter of Blairsville; two daughters and one son-in-law, Jennifer McCarter of Blairsville, Tiffany and Michael Ringenberg of Blairsville; two brothers and sisters-in-law, W.H. and Mytra McCarter of Blairsville, John McCarter of Blairsville; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Dora and Reid Colwell of Blairsville, Paula and Gary Davenport of Blairsville; two grandchildren, Lauren and Taylor McCarter; many other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, January 20, 2004 at 2:00 pm from the Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. George Cline and Rev. Kenny Beavers officiating.  Special music was presented by the Faith Singers.  The following gentlemen served as Pallbearers, Jesus Gomez, Jim Haistin, Brian Payne, Keith Lager, Troy Beaver and Avery Mason.  Serving as Honorary Pallbearers were Bill, Jeff and Jason McCarter, Joe Colwell and Daniel Davenport.  Interment followed in the Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery with the North Georgia Honor Guard conducting military honors.

mrs. annie thompson cody

 

Mrs. Annie Thompson Cody, age 77 of Asheville, NC passed away Wednesday, January 14, 2004 in an Asheville hospital.

Mrs. Cody was born June 17, 1926 in Union County, GA and was a daughter of the late John C. and Sadie Nicholson Thompson.  She was married for 54 years to Clyde J. Cody, who died January 27, 2002 and was also preceded in death by sisters, Betty Roberts of Asheville and Inez Townsend of Tunnel Hill, GA, and brothers, Hoyt Thompson of Holly Springs, GA and Earl Thompson of Blairsville.

After retiring from American Enka after 42 years she worked as a CAN for VHP until September, 1999.  She was a member of Enka Baptist Church.

She is survived by three daughters, Nancy Diaz and her husband, Richard of Tempe, Arizona, Martha Cody Batts and her husband, Al of Davidson, NC, and Linda Shelton and her husband, Terry of Charlotte, NC; one son, C.J. Cody, Jr. and his wife Dee of Leicester, NC; two sisters, Norma Johnston of Canton, GA and Sylvia Thompson of Phoenix, Arizona; two brothers, George Thompson of Blairsville, GA and Charles Thompson of Douglasville, GA; 12 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 17, 2004 at Enka Baptist Church with the Revs. Ron Brown and G. Scott Lynch officiation.  Burial was at Forest Lawn memorial Park.  Memorials may be made to Enka Baptist Church, P.O. chloe bernice duckworth

 
           Funeral services were held on Friday, January 9, 2004 at Memorial Park Funeral Home Chapel for Mrs. Chloe Bernice Duckworth, 58, of Cleveland Road in Gainesville, GA.

The Rev. Richard Thomas and the Rev. Jeff Lovell officiated.  Burial was held in the Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mrs. Duckworth died Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2004 at Emory University Hospital following a brief illness.  She was born in Union County and was employed with Northeast Georgia Medical Center for 33 years in the Customer Insurance Accounts Department.  She was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include her parents, A.C. Duckworth and Maudie Elease Dyer Duckworth, from Gainesville; a brother and sister-in-law, Carlton and Judy Duckworth, also from Gainesville; sisters and brothers-in-law, Arlene and Richard Schroeder, Carolyn and Richard Thomas, and Glinda and Frank Harben, all from Gainesville; sister, Linda Puckett, from Gainesville; and a number of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, aunts and uncles also survive.
