Mrs. Edna
Souther Terrell, age 77, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Saturday,
January
11, 1997 in the Clay County Care
center
in Hayesville, N.C. Mrs. Terrell was
born in Union County, GA., the daughter of the late Harvey A. and
Fannie
Collins Souther. She was preceded in
death by her husband, Mr. Warren R. Terrell.
Survivors include
one brother and sister-in-law, Harold and Doris Plott of Young Harris,
GA.; one
uncle, C.R. Collins of Blairsville, GA.
Funeral
services were held Monday, January 13, 1997 at 2 p.m. from the Cochran
Funeral
Home Chapel in Blairsville with Rev. B.A. Buchanan officiating. Music by Louise Delong, Sarah Kelly, and
Susie Phillips.
In lieu of
flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the American Heart
Association.

Mr.
Howard
A. Dyer, age 86, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Sunday, January
5, 1997
in Union General Hospital in Blairsville.
Mr. Dyer
was born in Union County, Georgia on August 7,
1910, a son of the late Narve Dyer and Laura Townsend Dyer. He was a lifelong resident of this area and
was a retired farmer. Mr. Dyer was a
member of Pinetop Baptist Church and had served as a deacon for
forty-five
years. Preceding him in death was a son,
Jimmy.
Surviving
are his wife, Nell Sweatman Dyer, of the
home; son and daughter-in-law, Calvin and Hazel Dyer of Blairsville;
daughter,
Joan Akins of sugar (sic) Hill, GA.; daughter and son-in-law, Sylvia
and Billy
Turnage of Blairsville; daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Doug Dyer,
also of
Blairsville; daughter and son-in-law, Lynell and Barry Lackey of
Roswell, GA.;
brother, Ishmael Dyer of Blairsville; sister, Norma McDonald of Ft.
Lauderdale,
FL.; ten grandchildren: Kenneth Akins, Aubrey Dyer, Keith Dyer, Andrew
Turnage,
Sidney Dyer, and Sharon Dyer; five great grandchildren: Debbie Akins
Dyer,
Karen Turnage Merrill, Heather and Brooke Lackey.
Funeral
services were held Tuesday, January 7, 1997 at 2 p.m. from Pinetop
Baptist
Church with Rev. Henry Loggins and Rev. Stacey Dyer officiating. Special music was presented by Dayton Dyer
and Kim Thomas. The following gentlemen
served as pallbearers: Kenneth Akins,
Aubrey Dyer, Sidney Dyer, Shawn Dyer, Andrew Turnage, and Eddie
Alexander.
Interment
was in Choestoe Cemetery.

Mrs.
Leila
Stephens, age 96, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Monday, January
13, 1997
in Union County Nursing Home in Blairsville.
Mrs.
Stephens was born in Cherokee County, North Carolina on
July 31, 1900, a daughter of the late JHOSEPH Pierce and Callie Nelson
Pierce. She was a homemaker and a member
of harmony Grove Baptist Church. Mrs.
Stephens was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Harve Stephens, in
1956 and
two sons, Jimmy Stephens and H.D. Stephens.
Surviving
are daughter and son-in-law, Mary and George Rogers of Montgomery,
Alabama;
daughter, Ruth Holloway of Lawrenceville, GA.; son and daughter-in-law,
Loyd
“Jeep” Stephens and Lela Stephens of Blairsville; daughter, Cora Dixon
of
Blairsville; son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Maxine Stephens of
Aiken, South
Carolina; brother, Everett Pierce and sister, Cora Lee Hackney, both of
Dalton,
GA.; thirteen grandchildren, several great grandchildren and great
great
grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral
services were held Wednesday, January 15, 1997 at 2 p.m. from the
chapel of
Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville with Rev. Harley Hunter and rev.
Horace
Potts officiating. Special music was
presented by Sarah Kelley, Louise Delong, and Susie Phillips. The following gentlemen served as
pallbearers: Ferrell Penland, Junior Duckworth, Harold Crump, Gene
Nelson,
Danny Stephens, and Craig Stephens. Interment
was in Harmony Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.

Tami Grace Lynch, infant daughter of Tony and Robin Lynch of Blairsville,
passed away at birth Tuesday, January 14, 1997 in DeKalb Medical Center

Decatur, Georgia.
The baby
is survived by her parents, Tony and Robin Brown
Lynch, of Blairsville; twin sister, Little Rebecca Lynn Lynch; maternal
grandparents, Robert and Susan Brown of Murphy, N.C.; paternal
grandparents,
Roy and Brenda Lynch of Blairsville; maternal great grandmother, Ellen

of Port Richey, FL.; and paternal great grandparents, Doris and Jerry

Mr.
John Conley Burnette, Sr., age 82, of 10255 Wolfpen Gap Road, Suches,
GA, died
Monday, January 13, 1997 at the Northeast Georgia Medical center in
Gainesville, GA., following an extended illness. Mr.
Burnett was a native and lifelong resident
of Union County, a retired farmer and merchant, member and deacon at
Zion
Baptist Church in Suches, and a member of Masonic Lodge #114 at
Blairsville.
He is
survived by his wife, Mrs. Virginia Burnett, Suches, GA.; sons and
daughter-in-laws, John Conley, Jr. and Olean Burnett of Suches, GA. and
Arthur
and Shirley Burnett of Suches, GA.; daughter and son-in-law, Mary and
Charles
Pierce of Suches, GA.; brother, Tom Berry Burnett and Dewey Burnett,
both of
Suches, GA.; sister, Stella Burnett of Suches, GA.; nine grandchildren
and eight great
grandchildren. Several other relatives
also survive.
Funeral
services are scheduled for 1 p.m. Thursday, January 16, 1997 at the
church at
12:30 p.m. Rev. Paul Wright will
officiate. Interment will follow in the
church cemetery. The family will receive
friends at the funeral home after 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

Mr.
John D. Stover, age 68, of 249 Kyle Stover Circle, Dahlonega, Georgia,
passed
away Wednesday, January 16, 1997 at the Chestaee Regional Hospital in
Dahlonega
following a sudden illness. Mr. Stover
was a native of Union County, GA. who had lived in Lumpkin County for
the past 14 ;years. Eh
was a
former resident of Michigan. He was a
retired businessman, a member of Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church in Suches,
GA. and
a WWII U.S. Army Veteran. He served as a
guard at the Neuremburg (sic) War Trials after WWII.
He is
survived by his wife, Mrs. Bonnie C. Stover,
Dahlonega, GA; stepson, Bruce Dill, Gainesville, GA; daughters,
Rachelle Gregg,
Nashville, TN.; Lanette Pettus, Madison, TN.; Kym Gay, Bon Aqua, TN.;
step-daughter,
Teresa Crider, Smyrna, GA; brothers, Sidney Stover, Suches, GA.;
Sherman
Stover, Suches, GA., M.J. Stover, Cleveland, GA., Wm. Bill Stover,
Palmetto,
GA.; sisters, Edna Griffis, Cleveland, TN, Rosa Haygood, Ruby Nevill,

Baptist Church in Suches with Rev. David Griffis and Rev. Garland Griffis officiating. Interment will follow in the church
cemetery. The family will receive
friends at the funeral home Friday from 6 to 9 p.m. and on Saturday
from 1 to 9
p.m.

Mrs. Ora
Reece Foster, age 91, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Saturday,
January
18, 1997 in Chatuge Regional Hospital in Hiawassee, Georgia.
Mrs.
Foster was born in Union County, Georgia on September
7, 1905, a daughter of the late Eli Reece and Sally Stephens Reece. She was a homemaker and a lifelong resident
of this area. Mrs. Foster was the widow
of the late Ernest Foster, Sr., who passed away in 1973.
She was a member of Shady Grove Methodist
Church.
Surviving
are sons, Ernest F. Foster, Jr. and
William R. Foster, both of Panama City, FL., Clifton Eugene “Gene”
Foster and
Marion Foster, both of Blairsville; daughters, Margie Sparks and Sue
Sparks,
both of Blairsville; sisters, Inez Lance and Florence Queen, both of
Blairsville; and brother, Weldon Reece of Augusta; thirty-two
grandchildren and
forty great grandchildren also survive.

services were held Monday, January 20, 1997 at 2 p.m. from the chapel
of
Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville with Rev. Willis Garrett and Rev.
Jimmy
Rogers officiating. Special music was

Eric Stennes, age 58, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Sunday,
January 19,
1997 in Union County Nursing Home in Blairsville.
Mr.
Stennes was born in Weymouth, Massachusetts on January
16, 1939, but had lived in this area since 1984, coming here from
Suannee,
(sic) Georgia. He was an Army reserve
Veteran. Is wife, Mrs. Louis Almand
Stennes is employed at Union County Bank.
Surviving besides
his wife, is a son, Kurt J. Stennes, of West Palm Beach, Fl.; a
brother, Elmer
O. Stennes, Jr., of Bradenton, F.; two grandchildren, Megann and Amber
Stennes,
of West Palm Beach, many friends also survive.
