Mr. james rufus addington

 

Mr. James Rufus Addington, age 78, of Blairsville, GA passed away Sunday, January 20, 2003, in Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga, TN.

Mr. Addington was born in Union County, GA, on Thursday, October 18, 1923, a son of the late Joab Addington and Della Gillespie Addington.  He lived most of his life in this area, and worked at Foodland in Blairsville for the past many years.  Mr. Addington was a WWII veteran and a Korean War veteran, having served in the U.S. Army as a medic.  Preceding him in death was his first wife, Betty Addington; Eva Mae Everett; and two brothers: Willie Addington and Charlie Addington.

He is survived by his wife, Eula Mae Davis Addington, of Blairsville; two stepdaughters: Dollie Smith, of Harper Woods, Michigan; and Betty Andrews of Blairsville; three sisters: Mary Martin, of Knoxville, TN, Rowena Addington Akins, of Blairsville, and Grace Addington Garrett, also of Blairsville; two brothers: John Addington, of Marietta, GA and Paul Addington, of Pueblo, Colorado; step-grandsons: Robert C. Rogers, and David Hancock, Jr., both of Blairsville; step-granddaughter, Elizabeth Hooper, of Hiawassee, GA;  many nieces, nephews, and other relatives also survive.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, January 22, 2002, at 2 p.m., from the chapel of Cochran Funeral Home in Blairsville, with Rev. Jerry Karnes and Rev. Stacy Dyer officiating.  Special music was presented by The Kelley Trio.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Rufus Everett, Robert Rogers, Wayne Abercrombie, Ricky Abercrombie, Dough Hughes, and Charles Bryant.  The following gentlemen served as honorary escort to the family: Denver Garrett, Harold Garrett, Pete Fortenberry, Mike Akins, Emanuel Legg, Roger Garrett, Ronnie Addington, Ray Payne, Jason Collins, and Dennis Garrett.  Interment was in Union Memory Gardens Cemetery with full military honors by North Georgia Honor Guard.

In lieu of flowers, if you wish, the family has suggested memorials be made to The American Cancer Society, %Sue Upchurch, 4344 Mulkey Gap Road, Blairsville, GA, 30512, or to The Gideons International, P.O. Box 521, Blairsville, GA 30514.

mr. don waldrip

 

            Mr. Don Waldrip, husband of Bevelene Watson Waldrip, age 62, of Blairsville, GA, passed away Monday, Jan. 7, 2002 at his home.

            Mr. Waldrip was of the nondenominational faith and a member of the Tyrone Masonic Lodge.

            Mr. Waldrip is survived by his wife, Belelene Waldrip; children: Cathy Myers, of Temple, GA, Donna Boatfield of Douglasville, GA; Penny Cash of Jonesboro, GA, Robby Wright of LaGrange, GA and Stacy Waldrip of Morganton, GA; one sister, Sherry Brooks; grandchildren: Daniel, Dustin, Benjamin, Shannon, April Halley and Katie and great grandchild, Audrey Blumenstock.

            Funeral services were held Thursday, January 10, 2002, at 2 p.m. from the Henry-Cochran Funeral Home chapel with Rev. John Strickland and Rev. Ernest German officiating.  Music by J. W. Patterson.  Serving as pallbearers were Emil Watson, Toby Watson, Don Watson, Leck Cash, Daniel Myers and Robby Wright.  Interment was in the Hipps Chapel Church Cemetery.

            Arrangements by the Henry-Cochran Funeral Home.

mr. claude william raper

 

Mr. Claude William Raper, age 83, of Morganton, GA, passed away Tuesday, January 15, 2002, in Union General Hospital.

Mr. Raper was born in Union County, May 25, 1918, a son of the late Delt and Lizzie (Mull) Raper.  He had lived in Michigan and worked for General Motors until his retirement in 1981 at which time he moved back to this area.  Mr. Raper was a member of Zion Hill Baptist Church.  Mr. Raper was preceded in death by a brother, Cliff Raper in 1985.

He is survived by a niece, Diane Raper, of Morganton, GA; a nephew, Ralph Raper of Allen Park, MI; sister-in-law, Geraldine Raper of Allen Park, MI; several cousins, other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held Friday, January 18, 2002 at 2 p.m. at the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home with Rev. Brent Chatham and Rev. Ray Harper officiating.  Music was by Joann McCord.  Pallbearers were: Cecil Beaver, Alvin Beaver, Ray Townson, Troy Townson, Kenny Lee and Vaught Patterson.  Honorary pallbearers were: Press Beaver and Ernie Cooper.  Interment was in Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery.

Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville was in charge of arrangements.

mr. bryant ellis collier

 

Mr. Bryant Ellis Collier, age 80, of Blairsville, GA, passed away Thursday, January 17, 2002, in Wesley Woods Geriatric Center in Atlanta, GA.

Mr. Collier was born in Ochlochnee, GA, on Sunday, October 23, 1921, a son of the late Bryant Ellis Collier, Sr., and Fannie Ballard Collier.  He was a veteran of WWII, and served in Guam in the U.S. Army Aircorps.  Mr. Collier had been living in the Blairsville area since 1964, moving here from the Florida Keys.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Cheek Collier, who passed away in 1985; and a great great grandchild, Phoenix Jones, who passed away in 2001.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Lynda Jo and Jerry Martin, of Blairsville; lifelong friends, Donald and Merle Singletary, of Thomasville, GA; brother and sister-in-law, Ella Frances and Earl Young, of Thomasville, GA; brother and sister-in-law, M.H. and Libby Collier, of Charlotte, NC; grandson and wife, David and Sherry Collins; granddaughter, Debra Montgomery; granddaughter and husband, Tracy and Lee Turner; and granddaughter, Marian Collins, and many friends and other relatives also survive.

Funeral services were held Sunday, January 20, 2002, at 2 p.m., from the chapel of Cochran Funeral Home in Blairsville, with Rev. Ray Potts officiating.  Special music was presented by The Faith Singers.  The North Georgia Honor Guard presented full military honors.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: H. L. Rogers, Bob Head, W. R. Berry, Clark Sterling, Ron Bullington, and Doug Bullington.  Interment was in Union Memory Gardens Cemetery.

mrs. ann catherine pink

 

Mrs. Ann Catherine Pink, age 82, of Coosa Run Road, Blairsville, passed away on Tuesday, January 15, 2002 in the Union General Hospital following an extended illness.  Mrs. Pink was born on September 14, 1919 in New York, NY, the daughter of the late William Braegel and the late Eleanor Myers Braegel.  Mrs. Pink was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses.

Surviving Mrs. Pink are her loving husband, of sixty years, Hans Pink of Blairsville; two daughters and son-in-laws, Linda and Oliver King of Hiawassee, Suzanne and Bill Johnston of Buford, GA; four grandchildren, Christopher May, Andrew May, Rachel King and Jeremy King, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Services for Mrs. Pink were held on Saturday, January 19, 2002 at 2 pm from the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses Church with Brother Rod Scogin officiating.  Interment followed in the family cemetery.
