mrs. maedell harkins weaver

 

Mrs. Maedell Harkins Weaver, age 78, of Blairsville, GA, passed away Monday, January 16, 2006 at Union General Hospital.

Mrs. Weaver was born Sunday, August 21, 1927 in Union County, GA to the late Thomas Newt and Maggie (Rich) Harkins.  She was a member of Owltown Church of God.  Mrs. Weaver was preceded in death by a son, Thomas Clemmons.

Survivors include: son, Larry Clemmons of Morganton, GA; daughter, Gale White of Blairsville, GA; daughter, Glenda Ruse of Blairsville; son, Rex Weaver of Blairsville; daughter, Cindy Rooker of Ellijay, GA; sister, Donnie Burnette of Blairsville; grandchildren, Ken Clemmons, Michelle Clemmons, Marsha Clemmons, Chad Clemmons, Mark Clemmons, Michael White, Jodi Rooker, Amber Ray, Kelley Henderson, William Ruse, Natasha Rooker, and Bryan Rooker.  Many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held Thursday, January 19, 2006 at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home with Rev. Wofford Kelley officiating.  Music was provided by The Kelley Trio.  Interment followed in Owltown Church of God Cemetery. 

The family received friends at the funeral home from 6-9 p.m., both Tuesday and Wednesday evening.

mrs. erna h. kangas

 

Erna H. Kangas passed away December 28, 2005 at Union County Nursing Home, Blairsville.

She leaves her daughters Sharon K. Thompson of Blairsville and Lynne K. Sanford of Hiawassee and a sister, Doris H. Fedus; 6 Grandchildren: Ronald Sanford, Arne Thompson, Troy Thompson, Andy Thompson, and Tam Thompson; and 11 Great Grandchildren.  Erna was a long-time teacher in Detroit, Michigan, and Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.

mrs. mildred pauline dyerr

 

Mrs. Mildred Pauline Dyer, age 94, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Friday, January 20, 2006 at Union General Hospital.

Mrs. Dyer was born Sunday November 14, 1909 in Medina County, Ohio to the late Charles Cowhick and Cora Freeman Cowhick.  Mrs. Dyer lived most of her life in Blairsville.  She was a member of Choestoe Baptist Church and had preceded in death by her husband, Dyer; sons, Dean and Raymond Dyer; infant daughter, Gaynelle Dyer; and daughter, Janice Kelley.

Surviving family members include: son & daughter-in-law, Duane and Opal Dyer of Blairsville, GA; son, Arlen Dyer of Blairsville, GA; son & daughter-in-law, Lyndon and Caroline Dyer of Mancelona, MI; daughter & son-in-law, Vivian and Jerry Reid of Blairsville; 24 grandchildren, 52 great grandchildren, 11 great great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. Many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held Sunday, January 22, 2006 at 2 p.m. from the Choestoe Baptist Church with the Rev. Dick Stillwell officiating.  Music was provided by Choestoe Baptist Church Choir and Brandy Zipperer.  Interment followed in Choestoe Baptist Church Cemetery.  Serving as pallbearers were the following gentlemen: Phillip Beavers, Junior Gaddis, TROY Dyer, Brandon Dyer, David Dyer and Perry Dyer.

The family received friends at the funeral home from 6-9, Saturday, January 21.

henry leander howard

 

Mr. Henry Leander Howard, age 86 of Wesley Mtn. Drive, Blairsville, formerly of Merkel, TX, passed away on Friday January 20, 2006 at his home following a brief illness.  Mr. Howard was born on Aug. 18, 1919 in Montgomery, AR, the son of the late Samuel J. Howard and the late Lillie Standridge Howard.  He retired as a Purchasing Manager with the Rural Electric co-op in Merkel, TX.  He was a veteran of the US Army of WWII.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Edna Nadine Clack Howard in 2001.  Mr. Howard was a member of the First Baptist Church of Merkel.

Surviving Mr. Howard are one daughter and son-in-law, Suzanne and Jerry Brooks of Murphy, NC, one son and daughter-in-law, Rev. Larry and Mary Howard of San Angelo, TX, four grandchildren, Lisa Brooks of Tampa, Fl, Lance Brooks of Big Coppitt, FL, Robin Howard of Austin, TX, Melody and Steve Verm of San Antonio, TX, one great-grandchild, Taran Verm, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services was held on Tuesday Jan. 24, 2006 at 2 pm from the First Baptist Church of Merkel, TX, with the Rev. Jimmy Griffith officiating.  Interment will follow in the Rosehill cemetery.  The family met with friends at the Starbuck funeral home in Merkel on Monday evening from 7:30-9pm.

edna cunningham landrum

 

Mrs. Edna Cunningham Landrum, 85, of Blairsville, formerly Of Marietta, died Tuesday, January 17, 2006.  Funeral services were held Thursday, January 19, 2006 at the First United Methodist Church of Marietta with Rev. Sam Storey, Sr., Rev. Bill Honaker and Dr. Sam Matthews officiating.  Burial was in Union Grove Baptist Cemetery.

Born in Hapeville, GA, Mrs. Landrun moved to Marietta in 1961 from Atlanta, GA.  She was a graduate of Hapeville HIGH School and a Master Cosmetologist in Atlanta.  She retired from Grady Hospital after 15 years of employment.  She was a Girl Scout leader and a GA leader.  She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Marietta, where she participated in Fellowship Sunday School, Alter Guild and the UMW, Elizabeth Dosser Circle.  She currently attended the House of Prayer in Blairsville, GA.

Survivors include her husband, Claude K. Landrum, Marietta, GA; son and daughter-in-law, Gene and Sandi Landrum of Marietta, Ga, daughters and sons-in-law; Joyce and Ben Hines of Marietta, GA, Cathy and Jim Black of Birmingham, AL, Judy and Randy Teague of Dallas, GA, and Barbara and Chuck Honaker of Blairsville, GA; brothers George Cunningham of Freehold, NJ, Reverend Charles Cunningham of Jonesboro, GA; sister, Betty Rogerd of Atlanta, GA; eleven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.

robert lanier churchill, jr.

 

Mr. Robert Lanier Churchill, Jr., age 43, of Largen Rd., Blairsville formerly of Gainesville, passed away on Sunday Jan. 22, 2006 at his home.  Mr. Churchill was born on July 14, 1962 in Atlanta, GA, the son of the late Robert L. Churchill, Sr., and the late Edrell Carter Churchill.  He had been living in Blairsville for the past seven years.  He was the owner of Southern Pride Builders of North GA.  Mr. Churchill was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving Mr. Churchill are three children, Robert Churchill III of Blue Ridge, Chris Church II of Blairsville, Nichole Cox Churchill of Ohio; three sisters, Barbara Churchill Behanna of Snellville, GA, Julie Anna Churchill of Covington, GA, Toni Frances Pisselee of Palm Coast, FL, one brother, Glenn Carter Churchill of Louisville, KY, his fiancée, Sheri Biemeret of Blairsville, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Memorial services will be held on Thursday Jan. 26, 2006 at 4 p.m. from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Stacy Dyer officiating.  In lieu of flowers, if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to the Children’s Hospital of Atlanta in Mr. Churchill’s memory.  The family will meet with friends following the services at the funeral home.
