Mr.
Ernest Harkins, age 63, OF Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Sunday,
January
17, 1999 in Lanier Park Hospital in Gainesville, Georgia.
Mr. Harkins
was born in Union County, Georgia, on Wednesday, June 19, 1935, a son of the late John Berry Harkins and Bessie
Bowers
Harkins. He was a carpenter and had
lived most of his life in this area.
Survivors
include his wife, Velma Brown Harkins, of Blairsville; daughter and son
in law,
Donna and Jerry “Bone” Carpenter, of Blairsville; son and daughter in
law,
Chief Mst. Sgt. James M. and Debbie Harkins, of BonAire, Georgia; son
and
daughter in law, Ernie and Diane Harkins, of Blairsville; Mother in
law, Bennie
Lee Brown, of Blairsville, Georgia; sister, Lorene Abercrombie, of
Suches; and
brother, Mac Harkins, of Blairsville; two grandbabies, Kayleigh and
Megan
Harkins, both of BonAire, GA; many friends and other relatives also
survive.
Funeral
services were held Tuesday, January 19, 1999 at 2
p.m. from the chapel of Cochran Funeral Home in Blairsville, with Rev
Horace
Potts officiating. Special music was
presented
by Cynthia Lance and Bonnie and Larry Henderson. The
following gentlemen served as
pallbearers: Jim Brooks, John Franklin Brown, J.E.
Corn. J.M. Dyer, James W. Jones and Sam bailey.

Billy Holbrook, age 60, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Friday,
January
15, 1999, in Union General Hospital in Blairsville.
Mr.
Holbrook was born Thursday, December 29, 1938, in Union
County, Georgia, a son of the late Weldeon Holbrook and Hazel Walker
Holbrook. Mr. Holbrook was a member of
Bethlehem Baptist Church. He was
preceded in death by a brother, David Holbrook.

Mae Tritt, age 87, of Suches, Georgia, passed away Friday, January 22,

her residence following an extended illness.

and lifetime resident of Union County, Georgia, Mrs. Tritt was a

Charlie E. Gregory, Sr., age 72, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away
Wednesday, January 20, 1999, at his home.
Mr. Gregory
was born in Union County, Georgia on Thursday, May 6, 1926, a son of
the late
Joseph Gregory and Isabel Harkins Gregory.
Mr. Gregory was retired from the US Air Force, and also Notla
Water
Authority. He had lived most of his life
in this area.

Georgia; sons, Charlie Gregory, Jr., of Blairsville and Lindsay

Mr. Jesse Lamar Davis, age 63, of Blairsville,
Georgia, passed away Saturday, January 16, 1999 at his home following
an
extended illness.
Mr. Davis
was born in Appling County, Georgia, on Wednesday, November 6, 1935, a
son of
Alice Reynold Davis, and the late Ralph Davis.
He was a supervisor for a trucking company, Ploof Trucklines,
where he
had worked for 35 years. Mr. Davis was
an avid outdoorsman. He had lived in
Blairsville since 1993, coming here from Jacksonville, Florida.
Survivors
include his wife, JoAnn Davis, of the home; mother, Alice
Dale, of Swainsboro, Georgia; daughter and
son in law, Jennifer Lynn and Nathan Hale, of Callihan, Florida;
brothers: jack
Davis, of Middleburg, Florida, Joseph Horne, Johnny Horner and Jeffery
Horne,
all of Swainsboro, Georgia; sisters: Joyce Bosch, of Baumont, Texas and Joan Paythress, of Swainsboro; two
grandchildren, Joshua Hale and Victoria Hale also survive, along with

friends and other relatives.

Mr.
William Lester Rathbone, age 80, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away
Tuesday,
January 21, 1999 in Union General Hospital in Blairsville.
Mr.
Rathbone was born in Newport, Tennessee, on Saturday,
July 20, 1918, a son of the late Fate Rathbone and Annie Clark Rathbone. He was a US Army veteran of WW II. Mr. Rathbone had been a poultry farmer before
his retirement.
