minnie c. brown

 

            Minnie C. Brown, 91, of Comer, Georgia, formerly of Union County, passed away Saturday, January 20, 1996 in St. Mary’s Hospital in Athens, Georgia.

She was born in Union County, Georgia, on June 14, 1904, a daughter of the late Sherman Brown and Alice Berry Brown.  She was a homemaker.  

            Surviving are a son, Clyde Helton, of Riverdale, Georgia; a daughter, Louise Cox, of Colbert, Georgia; and a brother, Lum Brown, of Blairsville; eight grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and one great great grandchild also survive.

            Funeral services were held Tuesday, January 23, 1996 at 2:00 p.m. from the chapel of Cochran Funeral Home in Blairsville with Rev. Willis Garrett officiating.  Special music was presented by Ken and Elaine Young.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Sam Bailey, Jack Brown, Robert Brown, Franklin Brown, Johnny Mack Brown, and Mike Jones.  Interment  was in Shady Grove Methodist Church Cemetery.

mr. william henson, jr.

 

            Mr. William Henson, Jr., age 59, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Monday, January 22, 1996 in Union General Hospital in Blairsville

Mr. Henson was born in Union County, Georgia, on June 1, 1936, a son of William Grady Henson, and Adell Brown Henson.  He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was self-employed as a heavy equipment operator.  Mr. Henson was a lifelong resident of this area and was a member of Ebenezer Baptist church and of Dooley Masonic Lodge #367, F&AM.  Junior was also a member of the Copper City Quartet. 

            Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Peggy Deaver Henson, of the home; his mother, Mrs. Adell Henson, of Blairsville; two brothers, Audie Henson of Ellijay, and Sammy Henson, of Blairsville; several nieces and nephews also survive.

            Funeral services were held Wednesday, January 24, 1996 at 2:00 p.m. from the chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Alton Towe, and Rev. Horace Potts officiating. Special music for the service was presented by the Copper City Quartet.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Clinton Patterson, Steve Collins, Steve Cordell, Derek Arrowood, James Bridges, and Wayne Tanner.  The North Georgia Honor Guard presented Military Rites, and member of the Masons presented graveside rites.  Interment was in Ebenezer Baptist Church cemetery (sic).

mr. harford J. loudermilk

 

            Mr. Harford J. Loudermilk, 79, of Blairsville, GA, passed away Thursday, January 25, 1996 in Union General Hospital in Blairsville.

Mr.  Loudermilk was born October 1, 1916 in Cherokee county (sic) NC, a son of the late Ben Loudermilk and Beulah Little Loudermilk.  He lived in Canton, Ohio, for forty two years, before moving back to this area in 1983.  Mr. Loudermilk was a Mason for fifty years, and was a member of Dooley Masonic Lodge, #367 F&AM.  He was a member of Canton Baptist Temple, in Canton, Ohio.  A brother, Quetter Loudermilk, passed away in 1994. 

            Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Boots L. Loudermilk, of Blairsville; step son and wife, Thomas and Sherrill Twiss, of Columbus, Ohio; step grandson and wife, Adam and Jennie Twiss, and step grandson, Brandon Twiss, all of Columbus.

            Funeral services were held Sunday, January 28, 1996 at 2 p.m. from Cochran Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jerry Karnes officiating.  Special music was presented by the Ivy Log Quartet.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: James Twiss, Elmer Thompson, Robert Dougherty, Carl Lancamp, Robert Davenport, and Albert Davenport.  Members of Dooley Masonic Lodge #367 F&AM served as honorary escort to the family.  Interment was in Ivy Log Baptist Church cemetery (sic)

mrs. gertrude hemphill henson

 

            Mrs. Gertrude Hemphill Henson, 99, of Blairsville, GA passed away Wednesday, January 27, 1996 in Union County Nursing Home in Blairsville.

Mrs. Henson was born in Cherokee County, NC, a daughter of the late Allen Hemphill and Agnes Bradley Hemphill.  She had lived most of her life in this area.  Mrs. Henson was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church, but had attended Youngstown Baptist Church for the past many years. 

            Surviving are daughter, Sue Stephens, of Blairsville; sons, William C. Henson, Bobby Henson, and Jimmy Henson, all of Blairsville; a sister, Alwayne Floyd, of Citrus Heights, CA; thirty seven grandchildren, forty four great grandchildren, and twelve great great grandchildren also survive.

            Funeral services were held Monday, January 29, 1996 at 11 a.m. from The Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home with Rev. Brent Chatham and Rev. Guy Bradley officiating.  Special music was presented by Odena Gibson, Inis Conley, Selma Bradley, and Michele Rowe.  The following gentlemen served as Pallbearers (sic): Chris Henson, Larry Henson, Jason Henson, Jared Henson, David Stephens, Tommy Stephens, Danny Owenby, David Stephens, and Terry Knight.   Interment was in Ebenezer Baptist Church Cemetery.

            In lieu of flowers, if you wish you may send memorials to Ebenezer Cemetery Fund, 1456, Gum Log Road, Young Harris, GA 30582.
