            Brittany Nicole Goode, infant daughter of Michael James and Christa Ann Clark Goode of Murphy Highway, Blairsville, Georgia, died Tuesday, January 24, 1995 in a Union County Georgia Hospital.

            She was preceded in death by her maternal grandmother, Darlene Roberson Clark.

            Surviving  in addition to her parents are her paternal step-grandfather and grandmother, Leon H. and Lucille H. Cross of Ellijay, Georgia, and her maternal grandfather, Clarence Clark, Jr. of Murphy, NC.

            Graveside services and burial were held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 26, 1995 in the Grape Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, Cherokee County, North Carolina. 

            Townson Rose  Funeral Home of Murphy, NC was in charge of arrangements.

            Barbara W. Wahl of DeLand, Florida, formerly of Blairsville, Georgia, died Friday, January 27k, 1995 at the Memorial Hospital, West Volusia, DeLand, Florida.  She was born in Chicago, Illinois on May 6, 1930 and was a member of St. Claire Episcopal Church in Georgia, Beta Sigma Phi in Georgia, and a retired Pan AM Stewardess.

Any donations can be made to the Union County Humane Society.

mr. harvey j. burks

 

            Mr. Harvey J. Burks, age 65, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Tuesday, January 24, 1995 in Union General Hospital in Blairsville.

            Mr. Burks was born in Franklin County, Tennessee, on January 1, 1930, a son of the late John Harvey Burks and Jessie Marie Isbell Burks.  He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served during the Korean Conflict.  Mr. Burks was a member of Union Baptist Church.

            Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Reba Dyer Burks, of the home; daughter and son-in-law, Vicki and Mark Douglas, of Tracy City, Tennessee; daughter and son-in-law, Shelly and David Breedlove, of Blairsville; son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Lori Burks, also of Blairsville; son and daughter-in-law, Jay and Kayce Burks, of Blairsville; and son, Andrew Burks, also of Blairsville; eleven grandchildren also survive.

            Funeral services were held Thursday, January 26, 1995 at 2:00 p.m. from Union Baptist Church with Rev. Benny Nix officiating.  Special music was presented by The Faith Singers.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Ralph Dyer, Royce Dyer, James Butt, Jack lance, Larry Hutson, and Charlie Brown.  Interment was in Union Baptist Church Cemetery.

            Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville in charge of arrangements.

ethel messer

 

            Ethel L. Messer, age 63, of Switzer, eight year resident of Blairsville, died, Friday, December 16, 1994 at Logan General Hospital after a lingering illness.

            She was born June 24, 1931 in Wayne County, a daughter of Lonnie Elliott and the late Gracie Elliott.

She was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith.

Messer was also preceded in death by her husband, Isom Matthew Messer.

Surviving are four sons, Lonnie Edward Gross and James Gross, both of West Logan, Franklin Rocky Gross of Switzer and Harrison Messer of Georgia; five daughters, Carolyn Adkins, Cathy Bruner and Barbara Dempsey, all of Georgia, Judy waters of North Carolina and Tennessee Cooper of Chapmanville; 17 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

            Services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, December 19, 1994 at the Slater-Gilliam Funeral Home with Rev. Andy Maynard officiating.  Burial followed at the Family Cemetery in Wayne County. 

            Slater-Gilliam Funeral Home in Switzer was in charge of arrangements.
