Mrs.
Selma
Vee Honaker, age 80, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Tuesday,
January 27,
1998.
Mrs.
Honaker was born in Randolph County, North Carolina, on March 23, 1917,
a daughter of the late John Hayes and Martha
Jane McDaniel
Hays. She moved to
Blairsville in 1958, form Asheville, North Carolina.
Mrs. Honaker was a member of Liberty Hill
Methodist Church.
Surviving
are her husband, Ernie Honaker, of Blairsville; son, Tom Honaker, of
Blairsville; son, and daughter in law, Rev. Bill and his wife Bobbie
Honaker,
of Blairsville; and daughter, Rev. Martha Anne Honaker, of
Fayetteville, North
Carolina; grandchildren, Yvette Honaker of Goodletsville, TN; Michelle
Honaker,
Clayton; Chuck Honaker, Sherry Fields, and Bretta Lynn Ogburn, all of
Blairsville; nine great grandchildren also survive.
Funeral
services were held Friday, January 30, 1998 at 11 a.m. from The House
of Prayer
Church with Rev. Charles Black and Rev. Jerry Helton officiating. The following gentlemen served as
pallbearers: Bill
Dyer, Jim Smith, Merle White, Cliff
Goewey, David Nevers, and Earl Johnson.
Flowers were accepted, however, if you wish, memorials may be
made to
The American Lung Association.

Victoria
“Vickie” Atonio Schmitz, 70, Bradenton, FL and Blairsville, GA. died
January
21, 1998.
She was
born March 4, 1927 in Gowanda, NY, and was a retired cafeteria worker
at
Bayshore Elementary School. She was a
former Girl Scout assistant leader and member of manatee Trail Dusters
Saddle
Club, Sacred heart Catholic Church, St. Francis of Assisi Church and
Veterans
of Foreign Wars Post 7807 Auxiliary.
Survivors
include her husband, Raymond, J.; three daughters, Sharon A. Schmitz,
Carol M.
Mosley and Karen Crawford, and a son, Dale P., all of Bradenton; two
sisters,
Josephine Merrill and Mary Larsen, and two brothers, Stanley and Adam
Raiport,
all of Gowanda; and six grandchildren.
Services
were held January 23 at the Skyway memorial Gardens chapel. A Mass will be said later at Sacred Heart
Catholic Church.

Mr. Billy
Joe Hedden, 53, of Brooks Court, Dallas, died Thursday, January 29,
1998. Mr. Hedden was born August 18, 1944
in Union
County, a son of Joseph Ray Hedden and Fannie Mae Dyer Hedden.
He was of
the Baptist faith and a service station operator.
Survivors
include a daughter and son-in-law, Jodi and Jeff Shelnutt, of
Sharpsburg, GA; a
son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Terri Hedden, of Dallas; his
parents, Ray
and Fannie Hedden, and three brothers, Donald R. Hedden, of
Cartersville, Terry
Hedden, of Marietta, and Michael Hedden, Kennesaw.
Graveside
services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, January 31, 1998, from the
Sunset Memory
Gardens, with Kenny Jacobs officiating.
Pallbearers were Jeff Shelnutt, Ricky Brooks, Harold Brooks,
Alfred
Hall, Russ Hedden, and mark Branham.

Mrs.
Caroline Roth Rogers, age 72, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away
Thursday,
January 22, 1998.
Mrs.
Rogers was born in Shawno County, Wisconsin, on
December 10, 1925, a daughter of the late John Roth and Lottie Harke
Roth. She was the widow of the late
William “Jack”
Rogers, who passed away in 1987. Mrs.
Rogers had been living in Blairsville for the past twenty eight years,
coming
here for Detroit, Michigan. Mrs. Rogers
was raised in Skanee, Michigan, and she moved to Detroit when she was
twenty
years old. There she met her future
husband, Jack, and then returned to union County in 1970.
Surviving
are son, Leo John Roth, Sr., of Neenah, Wisconsin; daughter, Rosalie
Funke, of
L’anse, Michigan; son, Tommy Rogers of Blairsville; and step daughter,
Donna
Baggett, of Tampa, Florida; brother, Frank Roth of Skanee, Michigan;
sisters:
Angeline Roth Markovich, of L’anse, Michigan; and Arlene Roth
Patterson, of
Skanee, Michigan; 7 grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren also
survive,
along with several nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Funeral
services were held Wednesday, January 28, 1998 at 2 p.m. from
Confidence
Methodist Church, with Rev. Brent Chatham and Rev. John Strickland
officiating. Special music was presented
by The Liberty
Singers. The following gentlemen served
as pallbearers: Larry Tankersley, John
Pierce, Marty Payne, Bill bracken, Hugh Rogers, and Danny Burnette. The following gentlemen served as honorary
escort to the family: Wally Bracken, Harold Payne, Tom Dowdy, Gary
Ledford,
Marty Ledford, William Young and Jeff Edge.

Mrs.
Viola Berrong Beall, age 86, of Blairsville, Georgia passed away
Monday,
January 26, 1998 at her home.
Mrs. Beall
was born April 17, 1911 in Union County, Georgia, a daughter of the
late
Fielding Pope Berrong and Ulma Waldroop Berrong. She
was a member of Shady Grove Methodist
Church. Mrs. Beall was retired as a
buyer from Hirsch’s men’s Clothing Stores, after 45 years of service. She had been preceded in death by a grandson,
Michael Scott, in 1991.
Surviving
are her daughter, Gloria Scott, and her son-in-law, James Scott, both
of
Blairsville; sisters, Mary K. Vernoy and Nell B. Turner, both of
Blairsville,
two grandchildren, Steve Scott and David Scott; four great
grandchildren, Jill
Scott, Jordan Scott, Stephanie Scott, and Michelle Scott also survive.
Funeral
services were held Wednesday, January 28, 1998 at 12 noon from Shady
Grove
Methodist church with Rev. Dean Head officiating. Special
music was presented by Carey Waldroop
and Daphne Barber. The following
gentlemen served as pallbearers: Steve Scott, David Scott, Lynn Davis,
Richard
Hendrix, Sid Turner and Wendell Turner. Interment
was in Shady Grove Methodist Church Cemetery.
