Adell Jackson, age 88, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Sunday,
January 26,
1997 in Northlake Regional hospital in Tucker, Georgia.
Mrs.
Jackson was predeceased by her husband, Virgil Jackson
in 1991.
Surviving is
a step-son, Wesley Jackson, of Nicholson, Georgia.

George
E. Ramsey, age 68, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Thursday,
January 23,
1997 after a brief illness. He was born
in Vicksburg, Michigan in 1929. He
resided with his family in West Palm Beach, Florida from 1959 until he
retired
from Pratt and Whitney and moved to Blairsville in 1987.
During his ten years in Blairsville, he
mastered the art of woodcarving, having studied carving at the John C.
Campbell
School of Folk Art. Mr. Ramsey was an
active member of The Mountain Woodcarvers Club since 1992.
He was predeceased by his father, Harry L.
Ramsey, Sr., and his wife, June.
He is
survived by his four children: daughters, Meredith
Ramsey and Susan Ramsey of Lawrenceville, GA.; Gael Alyson Dutrow,
TSGT, USAF,
COTA of Medway, Ohio; and son, Charles Todd Ramsey, CPO, USN of
Virginia Beach,
VA.; his mother, Clara Mae Ramsey of Canton, Michigan; his sister,
Charlene
Kenny of Canton, Michigan; his brothers, Harry Ramsey of Detroit,
Michigan and
William Ramsey of New Baltimore, Michigan; and two grandsons, Jarrod
and
Garrett Dutrow; and his dear friend, Jean Frey of Murphy, NC.
A
celebration of the life of George Ramsey was held Tuesday,
January 28, 1997 at 6:00 p.m. from the Blairsville Civic Center.

Mr. Ira E. Hunter, age 84, of Blairsville,
Georgia, passed away Monday, January 27, 1997 in Union County Nursing
Home in
Blairsville.
Mr.
Hunter was born in Fannin County, Georgia on July 28,
1912, the son of the late Elijah Hunter and Lissie Wise Hunter. He was a World War II Veteran of the U.S.
Army, and had lived most of his life in the Blairsville area. Mr. Hunter was a member of Liberty Hill
Methodist Church.
Surviving are a number of nieces and
nephews.
Funeral
services were held Thursday, January 30, 1997 at 2 p.m. from the chapel
of the
funeral home with Rev. Joe May officiating.
Special music was presented by Ken and Elaine Young. Interment was in Liberty Hill Methodist
Church Cemetery.

Mr. Tommy
Rhoten, age 35, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Tuesday, January
28, 1997
in the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta, Georgia.
Mr.
Rhoten was born in Jackson County, TN. on October 2,
1961. He lived in the Blairsville area
for most of his life, and was a member of the Blairsville Church of
Christ.
Surviving
are his wife, Pamela Tate Rhoten, of Blairsville; his parents, Ray and
Charlene
Rhoten of Blairsville; step-son, Timothy S. Tate of Blairsville; his
mother-in-law, Christine Tate of Blairsville; brother and
sister-in-law, Dan
and Cindy Rhoten of Woodstock, GA. and brother and sister-in-law, Steve
and
Tammie Rhoten of Blairsville.
Funeral
services were held Friday, January 31, 1997 at 2 p.m. from the chapel of
Cochran Funeral Home
with Rev. Brent Chatham, Rev. Hughes Chatham, and Minister Terry Stuart
officiating. Special music was presented

Mr. Terry
Loy Hamby, age 50, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Tuesday,
January 28,
1997 in Union General Hospital in Blairsville.
Mr. Hamby was born in Union County, Georgia on April 11, 1946.
He was a lifelong resident of this area and was a member
of Shady Grove Methodist Church.
Surviving
are his parents, Loy and Magnus Hamby of Blairsville; son, Allen Shane

Mineral Bluff, Georgia; daughter and son-in-law, Michelle Hamby Queen

Mrs.
Gladys
Smith Pickelsimer, age 788, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away
Friday,
January 31, 1997 in St. Joseph’s Hospital in Atlanta.
Mrs.
Pickelsimer was born November 26, 1918 in Cherokee
County, North Carolina, a daughter of the late Luther Murphy and Hattie
Roberts
Murphy. She had lived in this area for
most of her life, and was a member of Antioch Baptist Church. Mrs. Pickelsimer was preceded in death
by
her first husband, Glen T. Smith, who died in 1961.
Surviving
are husband, Elmer Pickelsimer, of Blairsville; daughter, Barbara
Stanley
Findley of Chatsworth, GA.; son, Jim Smith, also of Chatsworth;
daughter,
Cordie Gibson, of Blairsville; and daughter, Sue Collins, also of
Blairsville;
brothers, Willie and Brance Murphy, both of Blairsville; and sisters,
Lela King
and Lula Ledbetter, both of Marietta, GA. and Edna Towe of Smyrna, GA.;
nine
grandchildren and two great grandchildren also survive.

was a native of Connecticut, but had lived in the
Blairsville area for the past 11 years, coming here form Stuart,

Assisi Catholic Church, and was a real estate agent in Blairsville. E was a World War II Veteran of the U.S.
Army.

Murphy
Jane Shuler, age 98, of Walden, Colorado, formerly of Blairsville,
Georgia,
passed away Saturday, February 1, 1997 in Steamboat Springs Extended
Care
center in Colorado.
Mrs.
Shuler was born October 6, 1898 in Union County, Georgia
a daughter of the late Fate and Laura Fortenberry.
She was a homemaker, and a widow of the late
Marion G. Shuler, who passed away in 1989.
Mrs. Shuler was a member of Shady Grove Methodist Church in
Blairsville.
Surviving
are son, Gene Shuler and daughter, Verba McLaughlin, both of Walden,
Colorado;
son, Grady Shuler of Powell, Wyoming; and son, Virgil Shuler of kersey,
Colorado; 16 grandchildren, several great grandchildren, several great
great
grandchildren, also survive, along with brother, Ed Fortenberry, of
Blairsville.

services were held Wednesday, February 5, 1997 at 1:00 p.m. from
