Mrs.
Frances Nora Murray, age 82 of Blairsville, GA, passed away Thursday,
January
31, 2008 at her home. Mrs. Murray was
born Saturday, may 23, 1926 in Fulton County, GA to the late Thomas
Fincher and
the late Vara Jones Fincher. She was a
member of Union Hill United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Murray was preceded in death by husband,
Bill Murray and son, Douglas Murray.
Survivors
include: sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Judy Murray of
Clearwater, FL and
Michael and Pam Murray of Blairsville, GA; daughter-in-law, Elizabeth
Murray of
Hampton, GA; 5 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren also survive.
Funeral
services were held Saturday, February 2, 2008 at 2 p.m. from the Union
Hill
United Methodist Church with the Dr. Charles Wilson officiating. Music was provided by the Union Hill Church
Choir. Interment was in laurel Hills
Memorial Gardens. Serving as pallbearers
were: Tommy McElroy, David Fincher, Junior Bridges, Dwain Brackett,
Curtis
Shook and Bryon Jones. In lieu of

Miss
Glenda Leann Gooch, age 22, of Airport Rd., Blairsville passed away on
Tuesday,
January 29, 2008 in the Emory Hospital in Atlanta following an extended
illness. Glenda was born on April 6,
1985 in Union County, the daughter of Glendon and Kris (Lance) Gooch. She was a native and lifelong resident of
Union County. She was preceded in death
by her grandmother, Leota Jarrard Gooch and a step-grandmother, Betty
Henderson
Gooch, also by a special friend, Ryan Brynar.
Glenda was a loving and very special person and a huge fan of
the
Georgia Bulldogs. Glenda was a member of
the First Baptist Church.
Surviving
Glenda are her parents, Kris Lance Gooch and Glendon Gooch, both of
Blairsville; one sister, Brittany Gooch of Blairsville; one brother,
James
Glendon, Jr. (Jake) Gooch of Blairsville; grandparents, Glenn Gooch of
Blairsville, Jack and Pat Lance of Blairsville; several aunts, uncles,
cousins,
the donor family of Ryan Brynar, Rich, Carol, Randy, Shannon and
Michael; many
other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral
services were held on Friday, February 1, 2008 at 2 p.m. from the
Blairsville
First Baptist Church with the rev. Terry Stuart, Rev. Danny Parris and
Rev.
Chris Miller officiating. Special music
was presented by Elizabeth plot and Marletta Arnold.
The following gentlemen served as pallbearers,
Brandon, Martin, Jeff, and Stephen Gooch, Garron Crawford, Travis
Colwell and
John Hill. Serving as honorary
pallbearers were the family of Ryan Brynar, Rich, Carol, Randy, Shannon
and
Michael. Interment followed in the Union
Memory Gardens Cemetery. The family met
with friends at the funeral home on Thursday evening after 4 p.m.

Mrs.
Vera Frances Laye, age 88, of Blairsville, GA, passed at Union General
Hospital, in Blairsville. Mrs. Laye was
born Thursday, May 1, 1919 in Calhoun County, AL to the late David
Thompson and
the late Janie Cochran Thompson. She was
a member of Damasus Baptist Church and was preceded in death by her
husband,
Wilbur Winkler.
Survivors
include: daughter, Nancy R. Kimbell of Bethel, ME; brother, Clyde Cecil
Thompson of Buloxi, MS; grandson, Daniel Carlyle, Jr. of Blue Ridge,
GA; 2
granddaughters, Christina Kimball Goss, of Douglasville, GA, and

Mr.
Eurith “Dick” Russell Weaver, age 70, of Molena, GA passed away on
Wednesday,
January 9, 2008 at Upson Regional Medical Center. Mr.
Weaver was born in Union County, GA. He
was retried from Transport, Corp with 25
years of service. He was a veteran of
the U.S. Army serving with the Signal Corp in Germany.
Mr. Weaver was an avid gardener.
Survivors
include his wife, Mrs. Brookie Weaver of Molena, GA; sons, Wesley
Weaver of New
Port Beach, CA and Kelley (Kim) Weaver of Milner, GA; brother and
sister-in-law, Chandler and Carol Weaver of Enon, OH; sisters, Janice
Moran of
Forest Park, GA, Grace Daniel of Young Harris, GA, and Bobbie Ann Payne
of
Blairsville, GA.

Mr.
Earl B. Deaver, age 92, of Nottley Woods W., Blairsville passed away on
Saturday, February 2, 2008 in the Union County Nursing Home following a
brief
illness. Mr. Deaver was born on March 6,
1914 in Union County, the son of the late Soloman Alfred Deaver and the
late
Callie Chastain Deaver. He was a WWII
veteran of the U.s. Air Force. Earl was
well known from his many years of employment at Andersons Dry Goods in
Hiawassee and also at Hill-lance Drug Store in Blairsville. Earl was a member of Ivy Log Baptist Church.
Surviving
Mr. Deaver are a sister-in-law, Charlsie Deaver; nieces and nephews,
Howard,
Wendell and Roland Rich, Jack Deaver, Doris Bird, Charlene Sullivan,
Peggy
Henson, Jesse Deaver, Jimmie and Gary Hill, Joe and Jim Deaver, Mac
Sullivan,
Carolyn Hughes, Danny Deaver and Barbara Garrett; many other relatives
and
friends also survive.
Funeral
services were held on Tuesday, February 5, 2008 at 2 p.m. from the
funeral home
chapel with the Rev. Jerry Karnes and Rev. Tony Black officiating. A eulogy was given by Gary Hill.
Special music was presented by Martha Cone
and Patsy Davenport. The following
gentlemen served as pallbearers, Travis Hill, Jim Elliott, James
Bridges, Bruce Gary, Jack lance and Lester Deaver.
Interment followed in Ivy Log Baptist Church
Cemetery. The family met with friends at
the funeral home on Monday evening from 6-9 p.m.

Mrs.
May Graul Dodd, age 85, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Saturday,
February
2, 2008, at Stonehenge Assisted Living in Blairsville.
May was born January 16, 1923 in
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and grew up in Arlington, Virginia. For over 40 years she lived in Atlanta, where
she was a homemaker, Girl Scout Leader, Red Cross Instructor,
Member/Pilot with
Civil Air Patrol, and active member of First Presbyterian Church of
Atlanta,
and alter Christ Our Hope Lutheran Church in Riverdale.
From
1965 to 1985, she worked part-time in various administrative positions
in
Atlanta, retiring in 1985. After moving
to Wesley Mountain Village in Blairsville in 1989, May was an active
member of
the community: she founded a Kazoo Band, sang in the choir of First
United
Methodist Church, was a founding member of The Mountain High Hikers
Club,
volunteered with Union County Literacy Action, Humane Society’s
Mountain
Shelter, a charter member of Institute for Continuing Learning at Young
Harris
College, and served as an Elder of Mountain Presbyterian Church. During 2007, she moved to Stonehenge Assisted
living, where she lived happily and died peacefully, after a brief
illness.
May
Dodd is survived by a daughter, Donna Curtiss Shearer and son, Happy
Curtiss;
grandchildren: Sara Couch Piland, Abbey Couch Giordano, and Laura Couch
Boling;
great grandchildren: Maren Piland, Jake Boling, Kelly Boling, and Sadie
Boling;
step-children: Chick Dodd, Christine Dodd Puckett, Barbara Dodd Broome,
and
mark Dodd; step-grandchildren: Jonathan Dodd, Anna Dodd, Ben Puckett,
Rob
Puckett, and David Broome; brothers: Herbert Graul and Henry Graul;
sister-in-law, Mary Curtiss Bales; Nieces and Nephews: Betty Bales
Arehart,
Peggy Bales Daniels, Judy Bales Belcher, Cindy Graul Whitehead, Cathy
Graul
Baker, Dog Graul, Timothy Graul, Bob Graul, and Jim Graul.
A
Service of Celebration will be held Thursday, February 7, 2008, at
Mountain
Presbyterian Church in Blairsville at 11 a.m. with pastor
Travis Adams officiating. A reception
will follow at the church. The family

honorary pallbearers.
