            Mr. George Clark Rogers, age 69, of Benton, TN, formerly of Blairsville, passed away Wednesday, January 23, 2013 at his home.

            Mr. Rogers was born in Blairsville on March 2, 1943, a son of the late Randall Rogers and the late Roberta Seabolt Rogers. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, and had worked for many years as a designer of electrical transformers. Mr. Rogers attended the Church of God. Preceding him in death, besides his parents, was a sister Betty Collins; and four brothers: Bill Rogers, Charles Rogers, Bobby Rogers, and Donald Rogers.

            Mr. Rogers will be missed by all who knew him, but especially his loving family members: his wife, Joan, of Benton; daughters, Deborah Rogers and Jennifer Lynn Emlet, both of Eatonton, GA; sons, Raymond George Rogers of Maxeys, GA and David Clark Rogers, of Benton; sister, Louise Lance, of Morganton, GA; and two brothers, Ray Rogers and Tommy Rogers, both of Blairsville; ten grandchildren also survive.

            Funeral services for Mr. Rogers were held Saturday, January 26, 2013, at 1 p.m., in the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville, with Dave Jones officiating. The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Terry Rogers, Larry Lance, Gary Lance, Robby Rogers, Tommy Rogers, and Robert Rogers. Members of the 1957 Union County High School Football Team served as honorary pallbearers. Burial was in Union Memory Gardens Cemetery, with military honors presented by North Georgia Honor Guard, and the active duty U.S. Air Force Honor Guard.

virgil thomas wetzel

 

            Virgil Thomas Wetzel, age 52, of Pearleys Top, Blairsville passed away Monday, January 28, 2013 at Union General Hospital following an extended illness. He was born January 20, 1961 in Toledo, OH. He loved to watch TV especially wrestling and cartoons. Virgil was a very loving and caring person. He was preceded in death by his father, Bernard Wetzel, brother, Marvin Spain, sister, Debbie Wetzel. Virgil was of the Christian Faith.

            Survivors include mother, Joan Wetzel of Maywood, NJ, brother, Joe Wetzel of Toledo, OH, sisters, Bernice Williams and Bernadine Williams both of Toledo, OH and Lisa Wetzel of Arizona, cousins, Jim Austin and Nancy Harsh of Blairsville, several other cousins, nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends.

            Memorial services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers make memorial donations to Mountain View Funeral Home to help defray expenses.

betty faye siggers

 

            Mrs. Betty Faye Siggers, age 71, of Hwy. 325, Blairsville, passed away peacefully on Saturday Feb. 2, 2013 at her home following an extended illness. Mrs. Siggers was born on March 28, 1941 in Rockmart, GA, the daughter of the late Robert Jefferson and the late Hermenia Goddard Jefferson. Betty was a kind, loving and giving woman. She loved to collect porcelain dolls and figurines. She loved her Lord and was a very loving mother, sister, grandmother and great grandmother. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Ray Siggers in 1987 and by a brother, Bob Jefferson. Mrs. Siggers was of the Baptist faith.

            Surviving Mrs. Siggers are two sons and daughters-in-law, Randy and Kathy Siggers of Blairsville, Robert and Cecilia Siggers of Loganville, GA, two daughters and sons-in-law, Robin and Kenneth Marsingill of Alburn, GA, Rebecca (Nathan) Gates of Blairsville, one sister and brother-in-law, Cathy and Andy Frettwell of Milton, FL, sister-in-law, Joyce Siggers of McDonough, GA, seven grandchildren, Rachael, Richelle, Nicholas, Alex, Daniel, Whitney and Jeremy, four great grandchildren, Araya, Brandon, Michael and Carmella, many other relatives and friends also survive.

            A Celebration of Life service will be held on Sat. Feb. 9, 2013 from the residence at 2521 Hwy. 325 Blairsville from 12-6 p.m. Interment will follow in the Gwinnett Memorials gardens where she will rest next to her beloved husband. In lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that donations may be made to help defray expenses in memory of Mrs. Siggers.

joseph calamari

 

            The Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville announces funeral services for Mr. Joseph Calamari, age 84 who passed away on Monday, January 28, 2013.

            Mr. Calamari was born on Friday, December 28, 1928 in Jersey City, NJ, a son of the late John & Nellie (Mead) Calamari. Joe was a Vietnam veteran. He had an extensive military career in the United States Army earning numerous awards and decorations, including the Bronze Star medal. He retired after 20 years of dedicated service at the rank of Sergeant First Class. He was known by many people around Blairsville from his work as " Joe the bag boy" at Ingles Supermarket. He loved serving people and people loved him. Joe enjoyed road trips. Armed with a quick wit and great sense of humor, it wasn't hard for him to find a traveling companion. He followed Braves Baseball with a passion and loved old western movies. He was preceded in death by his wife, Agnes Schulker Calamari; parents; and four brothers.

            Joe will be fondly remembered by all who knew him but especially missed by his family: daughter & son-in-law, Jo Linn & Mike Bingle; daughters, Phyllis Nagel and Patricia Hosack; sister, Jean Gunther; grandchildren, Kimberly Tatum, Kelly Belloise, Robert Hosack, Jr., Brendan Hosack, Scott Hosack, Tyler Bingle and Brandon Bingle; and 9 great grandchildren.

            Funeral Services were held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, January 31, 2013 from the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home with Rev. Richard Hoibraten officiating. Special music was provided by Renee Morgan and Kelly Belloise. Interment followed in Union Memory Gardens with full military honors presented by the United States Army Honor Guard. The family received friends at the funeral home from 12 until the start of the service.
