mr. howard h. richards

 

Mr.  Howard H. Richards, age 89 of Blairsville, GA, passed away Wednesday, February 1, 2006 at his home.  Mr. Richards was born Tuesday, February 22, 1916 in Fannin County, GA to the late Henry Richards and the late Betty Chambers Richards.  A member of new Union Baptist Church, Mr. Richards owned and operated Richards General Merchandise for the past 61 years.  He was also a Cattle Farmer for the past 51 years.  He was preceded in death by sisters, Katie Kendall and Arkie Davenport and brothers, Alvin Richards and Hubert Richards.

Survivors include: wife, Dorothy Grizzel Richards, daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Milton Akins, daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Larry Akins, daughter and son-in-law, Phyllis and Steve Colwell and daughter and son-in-law, Rhonda and Doug Colwell, all of Blairsville, brother, Floyd Richards, of California, grandchildren, Matthew Akins, Kristal Hemphill, Allison Hyde, Andrew Akins, Katie Colwell and Jade Colwell and great-grandchildren, Gabrian Hemphill, Mattie Akins and Layla Akins.

Funeral services were held Friday, February 3, 2006 at 11 AM from the Chapel of the Cochran Funeral Home with Dr. David Gowder and Steven Hyde officiating.  Music was provided by Lita Gowder and Nelson LeCroy.  Interment was in New Union Baptist Church Cemetery.  Serving as pallbearers were: Andrew Akins, Larry Akins, Matthew Akins, Milton Akins, Doug Colwell, Steve Colwell, Gabrian Hemphill, Mike Hemphill and Steven Hyde.

mrs. frances joann cook

 

Mrs. Frances Joann Cook, age 58 of Morganton, GA, passed away Wednesday, February 1, 2006 at Fannin Regional Hospital.  Mrs. Cook was born Saturday, June 7, 1947 in Union County.  She was a member of Coosa Methodist Church and a member of Dooley Homemakers Club.  She was preceded in death by her father, Robert Harlan Gibson.

Survivors include: her husband, Donald A. Cook of Morganton, GA, mother, Frankie Fortenberry of Blairsville, GA, daughter & son-in-law, Dawn Joann and Jeff Mullinax of Ellijay, GA, son, Larry Cook of Marietta, GA, brother, Eugene Gibson of Shelby, NC, sister, Elaine Gibson of Blairsville, GA and brother, Jerry Gibson of Hendersonville, TN.  Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services were held Saturday, February 4, 2006 at 2 p.m. from Mt. Zion Baptist Church with the Rev. Ray Harper officiating.  Music was provided by Jerry Gibson and Martha and Albert Davenport.  Interment was in MT. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery.  Serving as pallbearers were: Dean Cook, Donnie Terry, Eddie Terry, Johnny Cook, David Reid and Dwayne Townson.  Honorary pallbearer, Richmond Lance.

brother ellard w. nichols

 

Brother Ellard W. Nichols, age 91, of Blairsville, Georgia, went to meet his Lord and Saviour Monday, January 30, 2006 at 4:15 PM at Union County Nursing Home, surrounded by his family and friends.  He was a dedicated servant of the Lord, loved his family and friends, and was an avid fisherman.  Mr. Nichols was born Monday, May 11, 1914 in Union County, Georgia to the late John A Nichols and Callie (Rector) Nichols.  He was a Charter member of Faith Baptist Church, ordained into Ministry, April 9, 1954, a Missionary in India, Arizona with Indians and numerous trips to Haiti, a sawmiller, timber cutter and farmer.  He was preceded in death by wife, of 65 years, Anna Lou (Gray) Nichols, son Edward Nichols, son-in-law, Cline Davenport, grandsons, Benny and Terry Jones, great granddaughter, Brandi Nichols, one brother and 5 sisters.

Survivors include: daughter & son-in-law, Joyce and Ervin Jones of Blairsville, GA, daughter, Linda Davenport of Stockbridge, GA, son & daughter-in-law, Stephen and Leigh Ann Nichols of Statesville, NC, son & daughter-in-law, Samuel and Barbara Nichols of Blairsville, GA, daughter-in-law, Theresia Nichols of Morrow, GA, 13 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and 7 great great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Thursday, February 2, 2006 at 11 AM from the Faith Baptist Church with the Pastor Joseph Hutcheson, Missionary Ric Hurd, Pastor Richard Nelms and Brother Billy Joe Jones officiating.  Music was provided by Billy Joe and Misty Jones, the Shangle Family, the Nichols Family and Amanda McBride, Linda Davenport, Gina Davenport and Sandy Brock.  Interment followed in Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.  Serving as pallbearers were grandsons.  Honorary pallbearers included: Bob Schwabb, James Jarrard, Elbert Beaver and Avery Jones.  The family received friends at the funeral home from 6-9, Tuesday and Wednesday.

mrs. jolene bright

 

Mrs. Jolene Bright, age 58, of Blue Ridge Hwy., Blairsville passed away on Sunday, February 5, 2006 in the Union General Hospital following an extended illness.  Mrs. Bright was born on Dec. 16, 1947 in Union County, the daughter of H.A. Rogers and the late Addie Kate Davenport Rogers.  She was a native and lifelong resident of Union County.  She had retired from Leviís in Blue Ridge with over thirty-five years of service.  She was preceded in death by her mother, Addie Kate Rogers in 2000, a brother, Darrell Rogers in 1980 and by a brother-in-law, Larry Holbrook in 2000.  Mrs. Bright was a member of Confidence United Methodist Church.

Surviving Mrs. Bright are her loving husband of thirty-seven years, Bobby Bright of Blairsville, one son and daughter-in-law, Bobby Joe and Melinda Bright of Blairsville, father, H.A. Rogers of Blairsville; one brother, Farrell Rogers of Blairsville, two sisters, Linda Holbrook of Blairsville and Cathy Burrell of Blairsville, two grandchildren, Joshua Bright and Megan Bright, nieces, Kim Nix and Penny Tanner, nephews, Dustin and Kevin Rogers, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2006 from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. John Strickland, Rev. William Sisum and Rev. Jeff Foster officiating.  Special music presented by Pat Strickland and Cheri Parker.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Bryan Nix, Jeff Tanner, J.E. Corn, Russell Thomas, Travis Jones and Darren Jones.  Interment followed in the Confidence Methodist Church Cemetery.
