Mrs. Sue
Gilcrest, age 57, of Blairsville,
Georgia, passed away Sunday, January 29, 1995 following an extended
illness.
Mrs. Gilcrest was born April 8, 1937
in Brownsville, Texas. She had been
living in this area for fourteen years, coming here from Fort
Lauderdale,
Florida. Mrs. Gilcrest was a member of
the House of Prayer Interdenominational Church.
Surviving are her husband, Mr. Bud
Gilcrest, of Blairsville; her parents, Paul R. Whiteford, Sr. and Lula
Belle
Whiteford, of Hobe Sound, Florida; a son, Ted Scott Gilcrest, of
Clarkesville,
Tennessee; two daughters, Carrie Lou Ferrano of Sea Bright, New Jersey
and
Laura Susan Husnander of Stuart, Florida; three grandchildren, Dreux
Alan
Ferrano, Susanne Caroline Ferrano, and Gregory David Husnander; a
sister,
Evelyn Shell of Wyoming; and a brother, Paul Raymond Whiteford, Jr. of
Hobe
Sound, Florida.
Funeral services were held Wednesday,
February 1, 1995 at 2:00 p.m. from the House of Prayer Church with Rev.
Jerry
Helton officiating. Special music was
presented by the House of Prayer Church Choir.
The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Herbert Kelley,
Clift
Goewey, Joe Walker, Bud Walker, Quinton Dyer, and Jeff Jefferson. Interment was in Union Memory Gardens
Cemetery.

Frank
Lewis Garrett, age 79, of Murphy,
North Carolina and Blairsville, Georgia, died Thursday, February 2,
1995 in a
Swain County, North Carolina Hospital.
Mr. Garrett was a native of Cherokee
County, North Carolina. He was a retired
farmer and sawmiller.
Mr.
Garrett was a
son of the late Willis “Lum” and Mae Burgess Garrett.
He is
survived by
one brother, Garfield Garrett of Blairsville, Georgia; two sisters, Oma
Allen
and Betty Farmer both of Murphy, North Carolina; and several nieces and
nephews.
Funeral services were held at the
Mt. Nebo Baptist Church at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, February 5, 1995 with Rev.
Jerry
Young officiating. Burial will be in the
Unaka Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers
will be nephews.

North Carolina in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. I.W.
“Penny” Keller, age 70, of
Statesboro, Georgia, formerly of Blairsville, Georgia, who passed away
Tuesday,
January 31, 1995 in Midway Health Care Center in Midway, Georgia.
Mrs. Keller was born in Polk County,
Tennessee, on May 5, 1914, a daughter of the late Mortimer Passmore and
Sallie
Meeks Passmore. She had lived in
Blairsville for over twenty years before moving to Statesboro. Mrs. Keller was preceded in death by her
husband, Mr. I.W. “Bill” Keller, who passed away in 1981.
Surviving are a son, Peter Keller,
of Piedmont, South Dakota; two sisters, Helen Kilpatrick of Tybee
Island,
Goergia (sic) and Monette Thomas of Venice, Florida; a brother Lewis W.
Hook,
of Statesboro; several grandchildren and great grandchildren also
survive.
Graveside services were held Wednesday,
February 1, 1995 at 4:00 p.m. from Union memory Gardens Cemetery with
Rev. Bill
Rabern officiating.

Mrs.
Minnie Ledford Butts, age 84, of
Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Friday, February 3, 1995 in Union
General
Hospital in Blairsville.
Mrs. Butts was born in Kentucky, on
September 16, 1910, a daughter of the late William Ledford and Ellen
Brown
Ledford. She had lived in this area for
most of her life and was a member of Philadelphia Baptist church. Mrs. Butts was preceeded (sic) in death by
her husband, Mr. Homer Butts, in 1985.
Surviving are two daughters, Lorene
Shepherd, and Loretta Thomas, both of Blairsville; two sons, Arnold
Butts and
Ivan Butts, both of Blairsville; a brother, Don Ledford of Pensacola,
Florida;
nine grandchildren, five great grandchildren and several nieces,
nephews and
friends also survive.
Funeral services were held Sunday,
February 5, 1995 at 2:00 p.m. from Philadelphia Baptist Church with
Rev. Guy
Bradley and Rev. Waymon Lovell officiating.
Special music was presented by Ken and Elaine Young. The following gentlemen served as
pallbearers: Bobby McDaris, Garner Butt, Steve Atkins, Tony Totherow,
Ronnie
Davis, and Travis Butt. Interment was in
Philadelphia Baptist Church Cemetery.
