Della Brown Hughes, 97, of Blairsville, GA, formerly of Cherokee County, died Monday, January 24, 2000, in a Blairsville, GA care center.  A native of Cherokee County, she had lived in the Atlanta area for 36 years before moving to Blairsville in 1998.  She was the daughter of the late Washington B. and Mary Susanna Hartness Brown and the wife of the late Rollin Hughes, who died in 1958.  She had been a textile worker and homemaker.  She was a member of the Shiloh Hills Baptist Church in Kennesaw, GA.

Surviving are a daughter, May Ann Lockaby and her husband, Jack, of Blairsville; three grandsons, Keith and Kerry Lockaby, both of Woodstock, GA and Kevin Lockaby of Acworth, GA; and a great grandson, Trent Lockaby of Woodstock, GA.

Funeral services were held at 2 pm Wednesday, January 26th in the Chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy with the Rev. Aud Brown officiating.  Burial was in Bellview United Methodist Church Cemetery.  Pallbearers were: Keith, Kerry, Kevin and Trent Lockaby, Robert Wynn, and Perry Hughes.

The family requests memorials be made to the Valley River Humane Society, P.O. Box 658, Murphy, NC 28906.

MR. charles w. murphy

 

Mr. Charles W. Murphy, age 53, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Monday, January 31, 2000 in Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville.

Mr. Murphy was born in Union County, Georgia, on Monday, July 29, 1946, a son of the late Loyd Murphy and Trilba Jones Murphy.  He was a lifelong resident of this area and was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include his sons, Robert and Charles Murphy and Andy Thacker, all of Blairsville; daughter, Anisha Thacker Beavers, of Blairsville; brother, Dennis Murphy, of Blairsville; brother and sister-in-law, Donald and DeBronda Murphy; sister and brother-in-law, Kathy and Donnie Marlow; sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Danny Owenby; sister, Evelyn Murphy, all of Blairsville; nieces and nephews: Jeremy Russell Marlow, Amy, Angie, and Amanda Marlow, Kimberly Marlow, Christopher Owenby, Chrystal Murphy, Brittany Murphy, and Daniel Murphy.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, February 2, 2000 at 11 a.m., from the chapel of Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville, with Rev. Terrell Jones officiating.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Wendell Murphy, Lawrence Bell, Chris Owenby, Jeremy Marlow, Stevie Marlow, and David Mullins, Jr.  Interment was in Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.

Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville was in charge of the arrangements.

mrs. loueve cunningham ingram

 

Mrs. Loueve Cunningham Ingram, age 77, of Branan Lodge Blairsville, formerly of Young Harris, passed away on Wednesday, February 3, 2000 in the Chatuge Regional Hospital in Hiawassee following an extended illness. Mrs. Ingram was born on March 11, 1922 in Hayesville, N.C. the daughter of the late Clyde Cunningham and the late Mae Byers Cunningham.  She was a lifelong resident of Towns and Union Counties, a member of the Old Brasstown Baptist Church in Young Harris, and a member of the Eastern Star.  She was preceded in death by her husband, John Henry Ingram in 1972.

Survivors include, a daughter and son in law, Deborah and Danny Kendrick of Blairsville; daughter, Carolyn Ballew of Blairsville; one son and daughter in law, Jerry and Martha Ingram of Jasper, Georgia; one sister, Zadie McCall of Douglasville, Georgia; two brothers, Von Cunningham of Hiawassee, Glover Cunningham of Huntsville, AL, four grandchildren, one great grandchild, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Friday, February 4, 2000 from The Old Brasstown Baptist Church with the Rev. Billy Stiles and the Rev. Jimmy Rogers officiating.  Special music was presented by Mrs. Willa Mae Puett.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers, Ken Ingram, Chris Ballew, mark Ingram, Levi Kendrick, Michael Cunningham, Tommy Moore, and Ray Cunningham.  Interment followed in the church cemetery.

MR. tommy lee willholt

 

Mr. Tommy Lee Willholt, age 55, of Brannon Nix Road, Blairsville, passed away Sunday, January 29th at his hone following an extended illness.  Mr. Willholt was born on January 1, 1945 in Lafayette, LA, the son of the late Jack. G. Willholt, Sr., and the late Eula Mouton Willholt.  Mr. Willholt had lived in the Union County area for the past five years.

Survivors include two brothers, Jimmy Ray Willholt of Zepherhills, FL, Jack G. Willholt, JR., of Lexington, SC; many other relatives and friends also survive.

Memorial services were held on Friday, February 4, 2000 in Dahlonega, Georgia.
