Rev.
Everett
Garfield Payne, age 82, of Rex Payne Rd., Blairsville, passed away on
Sunday,
Feb. 6, 2011 at his home following an extended illness. Mr.
Payne was born on May 16, 1928 in Union
County, the son of the late William Payne and the late Laura Cook
Payne. He was a native and lifelong
resident Union
County and had been a Minister for over fifty years. He
always had a strong faith in God and his
family. Everett was a compassionate and
loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather and
friend. He was preceded in death by two
sons, Troy Payne
in 1961 and William Buck Payne on Jan. 31, 2011, seven brothers,
Charles,
James, Grady, Herbert, Leonard, Arvil and Willard, two sisters, Lillie
Franklin
and Stella Dyer. Rev. Payne was a member
of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.
Surviving
Rev. Payne
are his loving wife, Patsy Payne of Blairsville, one son, John Payne of
Blairsville, five daughters and one son-in-law, Betty and Frank Gray of
Blue
Ridge, Bonnie Payne of Winter Haven, FL, Mary Payne of Ellijay, Janie
Rogers of
Jasper, TN, Sarah Payne of Jasper, GA, one daughter-in-law, Danna Payne
of
Hiawassee, two sisters, Myrtle Cook of Blairsville, Vesta Stroup of
Blairsville, one brother, Luther Payne of Blairsville, thirteen
grandchildren,
eleven great-grandchildren, many other relatives and friends also
survive.
Funeral
services
will be held on Tuesday Feb. 8, 2011 at 2 p.m. from the Mountain View
Chapel
with the Rev. Dexter Dockery and Rev. Terrell Jones officiating.
Special music was
presented by Michelle Webb. The
following gentleman served as pallbearers, Frank Gray, Brandon Rogers,
Stephen
Kirtley, Matthew, Danny and Gary Payne. Serving
as honorary pallbearers were Aaron Payne, Bill Kirtley, Randy Rogers,
Paul
Tanner and Travis Sanders. Interment
followed in the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery. The
family met with friends at the funeral
home on Monday evening from 6-9pm.

Mrs.
Joann Freeman,
age 73 of Long Ridge Rd., Blairsville passed away on Friday February 4,
2011 at
the Union General Hospital following an extended illness. Joann was born in Hiawassee, GA on April 2,
1937, the daughter of the late Fred Burch and the late Martha Anderson.
She was a loving mother, sister and
grandmother. Joann had a wonderful love
for her grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with them. She was a member of the Shiloh Missionary
Baptist Church in Russellville, AR. Mrs.
Freeman is preceded in death by her husband Luther Freeman, her brother
Ralph
Burch and stepchildren David Freeman and Herbert Lee Freeman.
Surviving
Mrs.
Freeman are a daughter and son-in- law Diane and William Smith of
Hiawassee,
two sisters and brothers-in- law Geneva and Harley Hunter of Hiawassee
and
Noble and Dwight Dotson of Easly, SC, a brother and sister-in-law Buren
and
Judy Burch of Blairsville, a sister-in-law Louise Burch of Albany, an
aunt Nora
Mae Barrett of Clarksville, two grandchildren Chelsea Ann Victoria
Smith and
Kirsten Faith Smith and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral
services were
held on Monday February 7, 2011 at 11 a.m. from the Mountain View
Chapel with
the Reverend Waymon Lovell officiating. Interment
followed at the Burch Cemetery. The
following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Stanley Hunter, Randy
Hunter, Justin
Mathis, Joseph Mathis, Josh Mathis and Randall Mathis. The
family met with friends on Sunday evening
from 6-8 at the funeral home.

Mr.
William
"Buck" Howard Payne age 53 of Bug Scuffle Rd., Hiawassee formerly of
Blairsville passed away on Monday Jan. 31, 2011 following a brief
illness. Mr. Payne was born on March 25,
1957 in Union
County, the son of Everett G. and Patsy Payne. He
was a veteran of the US Army. Buck was a
loving husband, father, brother,
uncle and cousin. He enjoyed hunting,
fishing
and spending time with his family. He
was preceded in death by a brother, Troy Payne in 1961.
Mr. Payne was a member of Pleasant Hill
Baptist Church.

are his loving wife of twenty-nine years, Danna Payne of Hiawassee,

Mrs.
Jewel Alma
Jones age 93 of Blairsville formerly of Lavonia, GA passed away on
Thursday
Feb. 3, 2011 at the home of her daughter following an extended illness.
Mrs.
Jones was born on Dec. 8, 1917 in Glenwood, GA, the daughter of the
late Eddie
T. Sears and the late Velma L. Joiner Sears. Mrs.
Jones enjoyed gardening, cooking and
sewing. She was a loving mother, sister,
grandmother and great grandmother. She
was preceded in death by her husband, Augustus R. Jones in 2002, also
by four
brothers, Slaton, Troy, James and Manuel Sears and by one sister,
Elouise
Sears. Mrs. Jones attended the Westside
Baptist Church in Lavonia.
Surviving
Mrs. Jones
are one son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Chris Jones of Huntsville,
AL, one
daughter and son-in-law, Beth and George Cline of Blairsville, one
brother and
sister-in-law, Charles and Jimmie Lee Sears of Warner Robins, GA, five
grandchildren, Nick Cline, Jason and Marie Cline, Jonathan Cline, Kelly
Jones,
Ashley and Braxton Jett, one great grandchild, Jacqueline Cline, many
other
relatives and friends also survive.
Graveside
services were
held on Saturday Feb. 5, 2011 at 2 p.m. from the City of
Lavonia-Burgess
Cemetery with the Rev. George Cline officiating. In
lieu of flowers if you wish, the family
requests that memorials may be made to The Awana program at Antioch
Baptist
Church in Mrs. Jones memory. The family

Mrs. Mary
K.
Segraves, age 74, of Choestoe Valley Circle, Blairsville, passed away
on Sunday
Feb. 6, 2011 in the Union General Hospital following a brief illness. Mrs. Segraves was born on July 2, 2011 (sic)
in Redbank, TN, the daughter of the late Ansley Keels and the late
Louise
Thornton Keels. Mary was a Registered
Nurse before her retirement. She enjoyed
growing flowers and traveling with her husband. She
was a loving wife, mother, sister and
grandmother. Mrs. Segraves was a member
of the First Baptist Church of Blairsville.
Surviving
Mrs.
Segraves are her loving husband of fifty-three years, William Segraves
of
Blairsville, two daughters and sons-in-law, Cindy and Bryan Smith of
Loganville, GA, Anna and Roger Conlin of Haymarket, VA, two sons and
daughters-in-law,
Allen and Betsy Segraves of Farragut, TN, Ansley and Rhonda Segraves of
Cumming, GA, one sister, Jane Brasovan of Woodsland, TX, six
grandchildren,
Benjamin, Paul and Julia Smith, Patrick, Quinn and Katie Segraves, many

relatives and friends also survive.

Frances
Weintraub
passed peacefully on Wednesday evening, February 2nd, at home in the
Appalachian Mountains with her loving family by her side. Her Mother and Father, Nette and Phillip and
her sister Evelyn preceded her in death. Frances
is survived by her loving husband of
65 years Roland, and eldest sister Libby, her sons Jack and Ronnie,
daughter-in-laws Cheryl and Kim and loving granddaughter Amanda.
Fran was
born in
Maryland and moved to South Florida with her family as a child. She
attended
schools there and graduated from the University of Miami. Fran was an art major and upon graduation
continued college and received her teaching certificate. She
taught Government and Economics for over
30 years at Southwest Miami Senior High School. Three
times throughout her teaching career she
was recognized as "Teacher Of The Year" for all of Miami-Dade County,
Florida. Fran was also the recipient of
the prestigious Golden Apple Award in Florida.
After
retirement she moved to north Florida and having missed teaching
students, she
began to fill in as a substitute teacher at Santa Fe High School as
well as
Santa Fe Community College. She was
loved by her students and contributed to this world and the lives she
touched. She will be remembered and missed
by those who
knew her.
Funeral
services were Monday, February 7th at 2 p.m. at the Georgia National
Cemetery,
Canton, Georgia.
Her
