jack loyd durham

 

Mr. Jack Loyd Durham, age 71, of Mulky Gap Road in Blairsville, passed away on Tuesday, February 3, 2004 at his home following an extended illness. Mr. Durham was born on July 26, 1932 in Jones, :A., the son of the late Earl Durham and the late Gladys Ray Durham. He was a veteran of the US Army. He was preceded in death by a brother, Vance Durham. Mr. Durham was a member of the Blairsville Christian Center.

Surviving Mr. Durham are his loving wife of forty one years, Joyce Byers Durham of Blairsville; one son, Bobby Durham of Blairsville; one sister and brother-in-law, Helen and Leroy Swink of FL; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Jim and Ann Durham of TX., Benny Durham of AR; one grandchild, Jadrian Durham; many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Friday, Feb. 6, 2004 at 2:00 pm from the Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Wofford Kelley and Rev. Eric Byers officiating. Special music was presented by Sarah Kelley. The following gentlemen served as Pallbearers, Tim Durham, Johnny Durham, Bennett Durham, Benny Adams, William Sisum, Timothy Byers and Paul Gilstrap. Interment followed in the Toccoa Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mountain View Funeral Home of Blairsville was in charge of the arrangements.

john mitchell phillips

 

Mr. John Mitchell Phillips, age 38, of Blairsville, Georgia passed away Tuesday, February 3, 2004 at his home.

Mr. Phillips was born in Broward County, Florida on Monday, August 23, 1965, a son of the late Charles Wilbur Phillips and Elva Louise Farquar Phillips. He was a Chemist/Lab Tech for Rhone Meriux in Athens, GA. Mr. Phillips had lived in Blairsville since 981, when he moved here from Hollywood, FL. He received an associates degree from Young Harris College and was a member of Young Harris College Alumni.

Surviving are his financee, Deborah E. Wright, of Blairsville; daughter, Samantha Louise Wright; daughter and son-in-law, Judith Ann Wright and Trevor Dyer; daughter, Whitney Marie Wright, all of Blairsville; brother, Charles Phillips, of Redondo Beach, FL; sister, Mary Phillips, of FL; granddaughter, Trinity Marie Dyer; several nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.

Funeral services were held Sunday, February 8, 2004 from the chapel of Cochran Funeral Home in Blairsville with Rev. Mike Hardy officiating. Special music will be presented by Billy Hale, Whitney Wright and Panda Cummings. The following gentlemen were Pallbearers: George Cummings, Thomas Cummings, Cody Gibson, Chad Gibson, Trevor Dyer and Billy Hale. Burial was in the Choestoe Cemetery.

Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville was entrusted by the family for the arrangements.

jackson lee plemmons

 

Mr. Jackson Lee Plemmons, age 76, of Murphy Hwy., in Blairsville; formerly of McCayesville, passed away on Monday, February 2, 2004 in the Beverly Health Care Center Northside, following an extended illness. Mr. Plemmons was born on May 1, 1927 in Copperhill, TN. He was the son of the late Tom Plemmons and the late Sally Fain Plemmons. A veteran of the U.S. Navy of WWII, Mr. Plemmons was a building contractor before his retirement. He was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving him are tow sons and one daughter-in-law, Kevin Plemmons of Canton, GA., Scott and Debbie Plemmons of Cumming, GA; sisters, Marie Scholes of McCayesville and Faye Jarvis of Lansdale, LA; three grandchildren, Pamela Plemmons of Cumming, Jason Plemmons, of Cumming and Josh Plemmons of Canton; many other relatives and friends also survive.

Memorial services were held on Saturday, Feb. 7, 2004 at 2:00 pm from the Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Hubert Legg officiating. Special music was presented by Hubert and Betty Legg. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials may be made to the Arthritis Foundation in Mr. Plemmons memory.

mr. willie watkins

 

Mr. Willie Watkins, age 97 of Suches, GA passed away Friday, February 6, 2004 at his home.

Mr. Watkins was born in union County, Georgia on Wednesday, March 21, 1906, a son of the late Noah Watkins and Lizzie Carder Watkins. He had lived in Union County for most of his life, and was a member of Mt. Pleasant (The Hill) Baptist Church in Suches.

Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Velma Gregory Watkins, of Suches; daughter and son-in-law, Mildred and Willard Levi of Tampa, FL; daughter and son-in-law, Marie and Harold Long of Suches; son, J.N. Watkins of Gainesville; daughter and son-in-law, Marvine and Tommy Crawford of Blairsville; daughter and son-in-law, Irene and Ron Troy of Suches; daughter and son-in-law, Katheline and LeRoy Head of Cumming; daughter, Florine Chastain of Blairsville; daughter and son-in-law Patricia and Robert Simmonds of Gainesville; daughter and son-in-law, Dianne and Merritt Wilson of Gainesville; daughter and son-in-law, Betty and William Dailey of Suches; daughter, Shirley Watkins of Austell; son, Larry Watkins of Gainesville; daughter and son-in-law, Cecilia and Gary Rutledge of College Park; thirty one grandchildren and thirty eight great grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held Sunday, February 8, 2004 at 11 a.m. at the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home in Blairsville, with Rev. Phillip Crawford, Rev. Ray Potts, and Rev. Willard Levi officiating. Special music was presented by grandson, Shannon Faircloth, granddaughter, Paige Wade, Lano Ledford and The Parker Trio. The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Ian Joseph Lecaroz, Kevin Moosmann, Brian Moosmann, William Hunsinger, Shannon Faircloth, and Richard Faircloth. Serving as honorary escort to the family were: Michael Long, Tom Crawford, Kenny Chastain, randy Simmonds, Gerald Simmonds, Robert Dailey, Tim Pickelsimer and Terry Pickelsimer. Burial was in Pleasant Valley Baptist Church in Suches.

Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville was entrusted by the family for the arrangements.
