Miss
Lorena Groover Thomas, age 86, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away
Tuesday,
February 3, 1998 in Union General Hospital in Blairsville.
Miss Thomas
was born in Brooks County, Georgia on November 26, 1911, a daughter
of the late Welcome Hope Thomas and Lorena Groover Thomas.
She was a teacher in Orlando and Central
Florida schools from 1933 until 1980.
Miss Thomas was a member of the First Methodist Church in
Orlando Delta
Kappa gamma and had been for many years very active in community
volunteer
work.
Surviving
are nieces, Ted Byrd, Orlando, FL.; Ann Rice, Dahlonega, GA.; Fain
Winkler, Mt.
Dora, Fl.; Nan Stalvey, Hahira, GA.; Linda Wyllie, Daytona Beach, FL.;
nephew,
B.D. Thomas, Jr., of Charleston, GA.

Mr.
Ben Thomas, age 96, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Wednesday,
February 4,
1998 at his home.
Mr. Thomas
was born in Towns County, Georgia, on May 14, 1901, a son of the late
Marion
Thomas and Sarah Elizabeth Burns Thomas.
He was a retired farmer and a lifelong resident of this area. Mr. Thomas was a member of Zebulon Baptist
Church.
Surviving
are his wife, Maude Brown Thomas of the home; daughter, Hazel Holbrooks
and
daughter, Maggie Nelson, both of Blairsville, daughter, Lula Payne of
Morganton, GA.; 16 grandchildren, 40 great grandchildren and 7 great
great
grandchildren also survive.
Funeral
services were held Saturday, February 7, 1998 at 2 p.m. from the chapel
of
Cochran Funeral Home with Rev. Claude Thomas and Rev. Horace Potts
officiating. Special music was presented
by Ken and Elaine
Young. The following gentlemen served as
pallbearers: Lynn, Johnny, and Mark
Holbrooks, bobby Nelson, Eugene and Jack Nelson. The
following gentlemen served as honorary
escort to the family: David Lee Wood, Chris Nelson, Tommy Holbrooks,
Steve
Seabolt, Roger Seabolt, Wesley Holbrooks, Nathan Holbrooks, and Arlis
Seabolt. Interment was in Old Union
Baptist Church cemetery.

Mrs.
Mary Kelley, age 72, of Blairsville, Georgia passed away Friday,
February 6,
1998.
Mrs. Kelley
was born on august 21, 1925 in Elbert County, Georgia, a daughter of
the late
Haley Fleming and Lavera Haines Fleming.
She was a homemaker and had lived in this area since 1959,
coming here
from Atlanta. Mrs. Kelley was a member
of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. She
was the widow of the late Jasper Kelley, who passed away in 1992.
Surviving
are son, Lewis Kelley, daughter, Patricia Carver, son, Travis Kelley,
son,
Steve Kelley, daughter, Mona Groves, daughter, Martha White, all of
Blairsville;
sisters, V. Elma Mize of Hartwell, GA. And Janie Cox of Stockbridge,
GA.;
grandchildren, Christy Miller, Megan Kelley, Ian Kelley, Ryan Kelley,
Brianne
Carver, Hollie Carver, Treva Kelley, Seth Kelley, Tara Kelley, Luke
Kelley,
Shane Kelley, jarred Kelley, Jacob Kelley, Adina Evans, and Kelley
Brown.
Funeral
services were held Sunday, February 8, 1998 at 2:30 p.m. form the
chapel of
Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville with Rev. Jerry Helton officiating. Special music was presented by The Liberty
Singers. The following gentlemen served
as pallbearers: Bobby Kelley, Herbert
Kelley, Jim Kelley, Garry Kelley, George Mize, and Gerald Mize. Interment was in Providence Cemetery.
