mr. whitney vosburgh

 

Mr. Whitney Vosburgh, age 95, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Saturday, February 8, 2003, in Union General Hospital in Blairsville.

Mr. Vosburgh was born on Wednesday, May 22, 1907, in Sharon, Connecticut, a son of the late Charles M. Vosburgh and Jennie Whitney Vosburgh.  After attending local schools, Mr. Vosburgh entered the banking industry and went through every phase of banking from office boy to President of Sharon National Bank.  He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.  Active in Sharon, Connecticut civic and social affairs, he served on the Planning Commission and was its chairman.  He also served on the Board of Finance, was an original member of Sharon Lions Club, Treasurer of the Sharon Burying Ground, and was a member of Hamilton Masonic Lodge, #54, F & AM.  Mr. Vosburgh was a member of Sharon Historical Society, Sharon, Connecticut Fire Department, and was a member of Sharon United Methodist Church, where he served as vestryman.

Survivors include his wife, Esther, of their home; grandchildren: Dema and Anna Rolan, of Ellijay, Georgia; nieces and nephews: Edward and Sharon Vosburgh, of Cartersville, Georgia and Marilyn and Kent  Picther of Grandville, Ohio; many friends and other relatives also survive.

Memorial services are scheduled for Wednesday, February 12, 2003, at 2:00 pm, from the chapel of Cochran Funeral Home in Blairsville, with the eulogy being presented by Calvin Rolan.

Burial of the cremated remains will be in Hillside Cemetery in Sharon, Connecticut at a later date.

mrs. jessie chambers rich

 

Mrs. Jessie Chambers Rich, age 88, of Blairsville, passes away Wednesday, February 5, 2003 in Northeast Georgia Medical center in Gainesville, GA.

Mrs. Rich was born in Union County, March 11, 1914, a daughter of the late Silas B. “Dock” and Linda (Lowe) Chambers.  She was a homemaker and a member of Antioch Baptist Church.  Mrs. Rich was preceded in death by her husband Charles Elbert “Ebb” Rich.

Survivors include: one son, David Rich of Blairsville, GA; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Thursday, February 6, 2003 at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home with Rev. Ray Potts officiating.  Music was by Ken and Elaine Young.  Pallbearers were Foyster Plott, Wade Plott, Ronnie Abernathy, Mike Vaughn, Roy Hamby and Jack Lance.  Honorary pallbearers were Dr. David Gowder, Dr. Richard Sarrell and Dr. Ben Philpot.    Interment was in Antioch Baptist Cemetery.

bernice mary richardson morris

 

Bernice Mary Richardson Morris, age 91, of Union County Nursing Home in Blairsville, Georgia went home to with the Lord on Tuesday, February 4, 2003.

She was born in Aberdeen, Washington on November 16, 1911 and was a daughter of the late Benjamin Albert Richardson and Sarah Agnes Bodine Richardson.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Maxwell L. Morris after 53 years of marriage; her son, Ronald M. Morris; two sisters, Emma Mae Richardson and Eugenia Juanita Richardson; and a brother Leonard A. Richardson.

She is survived by her daughter, Mollie M. Riker and her husband Russell Riker of Homer, Michigan; Two sons, Norman D. Morris and Dennis L. Morris and Dennis’s wife Barbara Morris all of Murphy, NC; a daughter, Verna M. Morris Deering of Grand Rapids, Michigan; a sister, Elaine R. Kendall and her husband Ernie Kendall of Lawrenceville, Illinois; 16 grandchildren, and 11 great great grandchildren.

She was of the Christian faith and was a member of the Lighthouse Full Gospel Center of Blairsville, GA.  She had worked as a Nurse’s Aide at the Allegan General Hospital and Allegan County Nursing Home in Allegan, Michigan.  She was also a Home Health Aide for Upjohn’s in Florida.  She was a member of the Golden Stars of Union County Nursing Home.

Services will be held at the Lighthouse Full Gospel Center, 6373 John Smith Road East, Blairsville, GA at 3:00 P.M., Thursday, February 6, 2003.  The Rev. Robert K. Mizell will officiate.  Burial will b in the church cemetery.  Pallbearers will be Norman Morris, Dennis Morris, Russell Riker, Donald Morris, Lance Morris and Warren Williams.  Honorary pallbearers will be Elijah Morris, Mike Prentice and Roger Griffith.

The family will receive friends from 3:30 to 4:00 P.M. Thursday, February 6, 2003 at the church.

Mrs. Morris requested that memorials be made to: Union County Nursing Home Activity Fund, 550  Nursing Home Circle, Blairsville, GA, 30512; or to the Lighthouse Full Gospel Christian School Building Fund, 6373 John Smith Road East, Blairsville, GA 30512.

mr. carl m. jones

 

Mr. Carl M. Jones, age 77, of Old Cane Mill Rd., Blairsville, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2003 at his home following an extended illness.  Mr. Jones was born on Dec. 11, 1925 in Union County, the son of the late Minel Jones and the late Frances Rhodes Jones.  He was a native and lifelong resident of Union County.  He was preceded in death by three children: Hoyt, Kirk and Patricia Jones all in 1969; one great granddaughter, Trish Ann Rogers in 1999; one great grandson, Darrell Dakota Jones in 1997; and his wife, Flora Mae Stamey Jones in 1989.  Mr. Jones was a member of the Church of God Young Cane.

Surviving Mr. Jones are two sons and daughter in laws: Lonnie and Patsy Jones of Blairsville, Hank and Sherry Jones of Blairsville; one brother and sister in law, Avery and Ruth Jones of Blairsville; one sister and brother in law, Cleo and Dallas Taylor of Blairsville; six grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Thursday at 2:00 PM from the funeral home chapel with Pastor William Sisum and Pastor Junior McTaggart officiating.  Special music was presented by Howard Brys, Jimmy Nichols and Regina Whitner.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Jason Harper, Shannon Jones, Greg Huskins, Bobby Rogers, Tom McTaggart, Calvin McTaggart.  Serving as honorary pallbearers were: Dalton Hooper, Kevin Rogers and Austin Hooper.  Interment followed in the Liberty Hill Methodist Cemetery.
