Mrs. Arlie Pearl Graham, age 92, of Oak Lane, Blairsville, formerly of Fayetteville, GA, passed away on Monday, Feb. 6, 2006 in the Union General Hospital following an extended illness.  Mrs. Graham was born on Aug. 29, 1913 in Dickson County, TN, the daughter of the late Thomas Lee and the late Ellie Deason Lee.  Mrs. Graham was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving Mrs. Graham are one daughter and son-in-law, Peggy and Bill Cannady of Blairsville; two grandchildren, Susan and Mark Applewhite of Suwanee, Scott and Jennifer Cannady of Peachtree City, three great-grandchildren, Brady and Owen Applewhite and Danny Cannady, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Graveside services were held on Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2006 at 11 a.m. from the Laurel Hills Cemetery with Phillip Meeks officiating.  Mrs. Graham’s family served as pallbearers.

mr. larry m. honea

 

Mr. Larry M. Honea, age 69, of Blairsville, GA, formerly of the Atlanta area, passed away Wednesday, February 8, 2006 at his home.

Mr. Honea was born Thursday, October 8, 1036 in Dekalb County, GA to the late Joseph Clarence Honea and the late Sally Jane Cash Honea.  Mr. Honea was of the Methodist faith and was a U.S. Marine Veteran.  He raced stock cars in the late model sportsmans class during the 1960s and 1970s, worked with Atlanta Gas Light Company from 19956 until 1972, was a residential contractor from 1972 until 1991, worked with the Fernbank Museum of Natural History from 1991 until 1998, and returned to his residential contractors business from 1998 until present.  He was preceded in death by two brothers, Joseph C. Honea, Jr. and Billy H. Honea.

Survivors include: wife, Loretta T. Honea of Blairsville, GA, brother, Robert K. Honea of Blairsville, GA and sister, Gail Allred of Snellville, GA.  Numerous nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews also survive.

The family received friends at the Cochran Funeral Home in Blairsville from 3-5, Thursday, February 9.

Funeral services were held Thursday, February 9, 2006 at 5 p.m. from the Chapel Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville, with Rev. Mickey McConnell officiating.

The family received friends at the Chapel of the Floral Hills Memorial Gardens in Tucker, Georgia, on Saturday, February 11th starting at 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. after which time a funeral service was held.

If you wish, memorials may be made to either The American Cancer Society, or to Union County Historical Society.

The Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville, Georgia was in charge of Blairsville arrangements.  A.S. Turner and Sons of Decatur in charge of arrangements in the Atlanta area.

mr. daniel harrison woody

 

Mr. Daniel Harrison Woody, age 52, of Tritt Rd., Suches passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2006 in the Northeast Georgia Medical Center following a brief illness.  Mr. Woody was born on Feb. 22, 1953 in Union County, the son of the late Nettie Sisum Woody.  He was a native and lifelong resident of Union County.  He was preceded in death by a sister, Janie Dyer and by two brothers, Bill Woody and Darrell Woody.

Surviving Mr. Wood are his loving wife of thirty-two years, Kathy Trammell Woody of Suches, one daughter and son-in-law, Candi and Tracy Turner of Suches, one son, Randy Woody of Suches, two brothers and sisters-in-law, Leora and Joan Woody of Suches, Henry and Lenora Woody of Clermont, one grandchild, April Turner, several nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, Feb. 11, 2006 at 2 p.m. from the funeral home chapel with Wayne Visage officiating.  Interment followed in the Woody Family cemetery in Suches.  In lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to the Suches Volunteer Fire Department in Mr. Woody’s memory.

Mrs. Lucy Mae Carroll, age 75, of Carroll Rd., Blairsville passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2006 at her home following an extended illness.  Mrs. Carroll was born on July 23, 1930 in Hayesville, NC, the daughter of the late Dan Smith and the late Maudie Stephens Smith.  She was preceded in death by two infant children, a brother, Wayne Smith and by her husband, Earl Carroll.  Mrs. Carroll was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving Mrs. Carroll are eleven children, Linda and Archie Patterson, Ralph and Brenda Carroll, Faye and Evin Patterson, David and Diane Carroll, all of Blairsville, Kathy and Donnie Queen of Alpharetta, Junior Carroll, Cindy and Tommy Queen, Clyde and Donna Carroll, Rachel and Steve Woodin, all of Blairsville, Dale and Jim Pressley of marble, NC; one sister, Lois Ross of Mineral Bluff, GA, seventeen grandchildren, two great grandchildren, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Friday, Feb. 10, 2006 at 1 p.m. from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Hubert Legg officiating.  Special music was presented by the Faith Singers.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers, Wesley Carroll, Michael Carroll, Kevin Queen, Christopher Queen, Cody Carroll, Daniel Patterson, Brandon Queen and Justin Queen.  Interment followed in the Dillard Chapel Cemetery.

Mrs. Genevieve Dimartino, age 99, of Wild Hog Creek Terrace, Suches, GA, formerly of Miami passed away on Friday, February 10, 2006 at her home following an extended illness.  Mrs. Dimartino was born on Oct. 25, 1906 in Italy, the daughter of the late Nichola Dimartino and the late Maria Graneri Dimartino.  She was preceded in death by two sisters Lucy and Tessie Dimartino, also by four brothers, Joseph, Ralph, Louie and Jimmy Dimartino.  Mrs. Dimartino was a member of Pine Top Baptist Church.

Surviving Mrs. Dimartino are nephews, Nick and Paula Dimartino of Blairsville, Stephen and Diane Dimartino of PA, David Dimartino of NJ, Joseph Dimartino of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, one niece, Evelyn Vallario of NJ, several great nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Monday, February 13, 2006 at 1 p.m. from the Pine Top Baptist Church with Rev. Jimmy Tanner officiating.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers, Joseph Dimartino, Mark Dimartino, Michael Dorman, Tony Brown, Bill Ragland and Gian Rossi’-Espagnet.  Interment followed in the church cemetery.  Flowers are accepted or in lieu of the family requests that memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or to Regency Hospice of Hiawassee, GA.

Mrs. Rachel Lynn Davis, age 40, of Blairsville, GA, passed away Sunday, February 5, 2006 at Union General Hospital.

Mrs. Davis was born Friday, January 14, 1966 in Towns County, Georgia.  She was a member of Harmony Grove Baptist Church and was preceded in death by her father Everett Pickelsimer.

Survivors include: husband, Clyde Davis, of Blairsville, GA; mother and step-father, Reva Sue and Jerry Dispane of Blairsville, GA; mother-in-law, Betty Davis of Blairsville; brother-in-law, Michael Davis of Glenville, GA; special cousin, Tim Snedegar of Blairsville; special nurse and cousin, Charlotte Beavers of Morganton, GA.  Several aunts, uncles and cousins also survive.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, February 8, 2006 at 2 p.m. from the Cochran Funeral Home with the Rev. Waymon Lovell, Rev. Stacy Dyer, Rev. Harley Hunter and Raymond Byers officiating.  Music was provided by Hubert and Betty Legg.  Interment followed in Old Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery.  Serving as pallbearers were the following gentlemen: Johnny Holbrooks, R.M. Dyer, Eddie Beavers, Danny Stephens, Bryan Mason, Andy Ware, Benny Burnette and Tommy Green.

The family received friends at the funeral home from 6-9 p.m., both Monday and Tuesday evenings.

mr. herbert hoover arnold

 

Mr. Herbert Hoover Arnold, age 76, of pat Colwell Rd., Blairsville formerly of Lawrenceville, GA passed away on Saturday, Feb. 11, 2006 in the Union General Hospital following an extended illness.  Mr. Arnold was born on Feb. 25, 1929 in Gwinnett County, the son of the late Will Arnold and the late Eula Griswell Arnold.  He had retired from General Motors with over thirty years of service.  He was an active member of the Union County Lions Club, a member of the American Legion Post #16 of Cleveland, GA, a member of the VFW of Hiawassee and a member of the Lake Improvement Assoc.  Herbert was an expert fisherman and hunter.  He was an avid gardener.  Herbert was a loving and devoted husband and father.  Mr. Arnold was a member of the House of Prayer Church.

Surviving Mr. Arnold are his loving wife of fifty-five years, Mary Blair Arnold of Blairsville, son, Michael Arnold of Lula, two brothers and sisters-in-law, Edwin & Edna Arnold of Jefferson, Harry & Edna Arnold of Lawrenceville, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Monday, Feb. 13, 2006 at 11 a.m. from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Jerry Helton, Carl Buser, Ken Castle and Gilmer Vandiver officiating.  Special music was presented by Cheri Parker.  Graveside services and interment followed at 4 p.m. from the E. Shadow Lawn Cemetery in Lawrenceville with Rev. Charles Dispain officiating.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers, Waymon and Donnis Tullis, Billy Dupree, Billie Hanley, Tim Little and Bill Parker.  Serving as honorary pallbearers were the Union County Lions Club and Members of the American Legion.

Mrs. Antoinette Rusk, age 63, of pat Colwell Rd., Blairsville passed away on Saturday, Feb. 11, 2006 in the Union General Hospital following an extended illness.  Mrs. Rusk was born on March 15, 1942 in Cleveland, OH, the daughter of the late Glenn Brookins and the late Alma Gurnack Brookins.  Mrs. Rusk, along with her husband, Jack have been living in Blairsville for the past twenty-five years, moving here from Florida.  Mrs. Rusk attended the House of Prayer Church.

Surviving Mrs. Rusk are her loving husband, Jack Rusk of Blairsville, three sons and two daughters-in-law, Floyd and Martha Rusk of Buford, GA, Robert and Debbie Rusk of Blairsville, Steven Rusk of Blairsville, one daughter, Dorothy Rusk of Blairsville, three brothers and one sister-in-law, Bubsey and Carol Brookins of Miami, FL, Michael Brookins of Florida, Robert Brookins of FL, ten grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Mrs. Mable Patterson Teague McDonald, age 84, of Murphy, NC passed away Tuesday, February 7, 2006 in the Murphy Medical Center in Murphy.  Born in Union County, GA, she was the daughter of the late John Lawson Patterson and Bertha Turner Patterson.  She was a member of Mt. Zion (The Glade) Baptist Church and was preceded in death by her husband Harry McDonald.

She is survived by a son, Jackie R. Teague of Blue Ridge; daughters and son-in-law, Katherine and Durwood Queen of Acworth, GA, Carolyn Williamson of Jacksonville, FL, and Mary Deerwester Jockel of Jacksonville, FL; a brother, Franklin Patterson of Blairsville; 6 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and 2 great great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted Thursday, February 9, 2006 at 11 a.m. from the Atkins of Blue Ridge Chapel with Rev. Gene Martin officiating.  Interment followed in Mt. Frances C. Harrison, 73, of Fitzgerald, georgia, died Monday, February 6, 2006 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, february 9, 2006 at the Fitzgerald Primitive Baptist Church, with Elder Jerry Barrs officiating.  Interment followed in Evergreen Cemetery.  The family received friends from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m., Wednesday evening at the funeral home.

Mrs. Harrison was born September 17, 1932 in Blairsville, GA to the late Ralph and Estelle Rich Conley.  She lived in the community for the past fifty Years, moving from Atlanta.  Mrs. Harrison was a homemaker and a former employee of H.R. Kaminsky & Sons and former secretary for Meredith Pole & Timber Co.  She was a member of the Fitzgerald Primitive Baptist Church.

Mrs. Harrison is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law; Mack E. Harrison, JR. and Ralph & Nancy Harrison, all of Macon; one daughter and son-in-law: Elaine & Tracy Bower of Fitzgerald; four grandchildren: Melissa Harrison, Kristen HArrison, Dessie Bower and Lindsay Bower; and one brother: Jim Conley of Blairsville.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Mack Erwin Harrison, a daughter-in-law, Linda Harrison, three brothers and one sister.

mr. carl winford queen

 

Mr. Carl Winford Queen age 71 of Jimmy Nicholson Rd., Blairsville passed away on Sunday, February 12, 2006 in the Union General Hospital following a brief illness.  Mr. Queen was born on Sept. 1, 1934 in Union County, the son of the late Tom Bell Queen and the late Nora Elizabeth Reece Queen.  He retired from Lockheed in Marietta with over thirty eight years of service.  He was a native and lifelong resident of Union County.  He was a member of the Masonic Lodge F&AM in Marietta.  Carl loved to play music and played the Base Fiddle.  He was inducted in the Country Music Hall of Fame.  Mr. Queen was a member of Shady Grove Methodist church.

Surviving Mr. Queen are his loving wife of forty nine years, Shirley Entrekin Queen of Blairsville, one daughter and son-in-law, Katrice and Tim Brewster of Woodstock, three sons and two daughter-in-laws, Gregory and Linda Queen of Marietta, Gerald Queen of Dallas, GA, Steve and Teresa Queen of Blairsville, one sister, Frank Kirkland of Blairsville, two brothers and sister-in-laws, B.J. and Carmella Queen of Blairsville, Durwood and Katherine Queen of Woodstock, six grandchildren, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, February 14, 2006 at 2 p.m. from the Mountain View funeral home chapel with the Rev. Bob Bone officiating.  Special music will be presented by Larry Nichols. The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers, B.J. Queen, Gregory Queen, Steve Queen, Tim Greer, Cliff Reisig, Tim Brewster, Gerald Queen and Asa Queen.  Interment will follow in the Shady Grove Methodist church cemetery.  The family will meet with friends at the funeral home on Monday evening from 6-9 p.m.

Mrs. Marie Elaine Goldstein, age 62, of Harbor Lane, Blairsville, formerly of Naples, FL passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2006 at her home following an extended illness.  Mrs. Goldstein was born on Aug. 6, 1943 in Bath, Maine, the daughter of the late Ralph Milliken and the late Effie Fosher Milliken.  She was preceded in death by a brother, Eugene Milliken in 2004.  Mrs. Goldstein was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church.

Surviving Mrs. Goldstein are her loving husband of thirty-nine years, Harvey Goldstein of Blairsville, one daughter and son-in-law, Wendy and Jeffery Flannery of Norton, MA, three sons and one daughter-in-law, Mitch Goldstein of Framingham, MA, Jeffrey and Tracy Goldstein of Needham, MA, David Goldstein of Morrisville, NC, one sister and brother-in-law, Jane and Joseph Szymanski of Watpole, MA, two brothers and sisters-in-law, Bruce and Michelle Milliken of NC, Richard and Dianne Milliken of Cannen, CT, five grandchildren, Zachary, Nikki and Alison Goldstein, Stephen and Jessica Flannery, several nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Friday, Feb. 10, 2006 at 3 p.m. from the funeral home chapel with Father Richard Wise officiating.  Interment followed in the Knollwood Cemetery in MA.
