Mrs.
Doris Arrant, age 70, of Dillard Road West, Blairsville passed away,
Thursday,
February 9, 2012 at her home following a brief illness. Doris was born
December
20, 1941 in Blue Ridge, GA to Robert Claude and Wilma Geneva (Chastain)
Horton.
She had a heart of gold, and was a loving mother, sister, grandmother
and was a
friend to everyone. Doris was a member of Philadelphia Baptist Church.
Survivors
include children, Junior and Angie Arrant of Blairsville, James and
Tami Arrant
of Blairsville, Janet and Tim Stinton of
Parish, FL
and Jeff Arrant of Blairsville, brothers, Delos (Dee) and Gloria Horton
of Blue
Ridge and Larry Isaac and Brenda Horton of Texas, sisters, Loretta
Nichols of
Ellijay and Theresa and Junior Ray of Mineral Bluff, grandchildren,
Timmy Stinton, Jacob Stinton,
Israel Stinton, Will Arrant, Jared Arrant
and Emily Arrant .
Funeral
services were held at 2 p.m., Sunday, February 12, 2012 at Mountain
View
Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Randy Hooper and Rev. Chris Rumfeldt
officiating. Special music was presented by Melissa Collins, Leslie
Hughes and
Lucas Phillips. Pallbearers were Sherman Ray, Jared Arrant, Will
Arrant, Timmy Stinton, Jacob Stinton, Israel Stinton
and Chad Sisum. In lieu
of flowers make memorials to Philadelphia Baptist Church Building Fund
or Free
Will Baptist Church. Interment was in Philadelphia Baptist Church
Cemetery. The
family received friends at the funeral home Saturday evening from 6
until 9 p.m.

Mr.
Eugene Gilreath, age 77, of State Hwy. 60 Suches, passed away on Saturday, February 11,
2012 at his
home following a brief illness. Mr. Gilreath
was born
on July 18, 1934 in Suches, GA, the son of
the late
Joseph Hershel Gilreath and the late
Murphy Shope Gilreath
and was the youngest
of ten children. Eugene had worked several years for Republic Steel in
Canton,
OH. He then went to Lockheed Aircraft in Marietta where he worked for
ten
years. After moving back to Suches in the
mid 60’s he
worked for the State Highway Department for a short period of time. He
then
went to North GA College where he spent almost twenty years before
retiring in
1995. “Gene” as he was called loved his family, his home, his church
friends
and he loved animals, and his 1960 John Deer Tractor, working in his
beautiful
yard, being at home and most of all spending time with his family. He
was the
last of the ten children and was preceded in death by seven brothers,
Hershel,
Russell, Ralph, Joe, Rufus, Hubert and Gus Gilreath,
two sisters, Birtee Gilreath
and Lois Grizzle. Eugene was a member of Friendship Baptist Church.
Surviving
Mr. Gilreath are his loving wife of
fifty-six years,
Annie Faye Vandiver Gilreath
of Suches, two daughters and sons-in-laws,
Donna and
Danny Jarrard of Dahlonega and Glenda and
Larry
Carlson of Dahlonega, several nieces, nephews, cousins, many other
relatives
and friends also survive.
Funeral
services were held on Monday Feb. 13, 2012 at 1 p.m. from the Mountain
View
Chapel with the Rev. Charles Abernathy and Rev. Ray Potts officiating.
The
following gentleman served as pallbearers, Larry Carlson, Danny Jarrard, Robert Bridges, Jordan Pickelsimer,
Terry Pickelsimer and Benny Brookshire.
Interment
followed in the Union Memory Gardens Cemetery. The family met with
friends at
the funeral home on Sunday evening from 4-7 p.m.

Mrs.
Clarice Lorraine Stephens, age 96, of Twiggs Rd., Blairsville, formerly
of Oak
Ridge, TN, passed away on Saturday February 11, 2012 at her home
following an
extended illness. Mrs. Stephens was born on June 12, 1915 in Atlanta,
GA, the
daughter of the late James W. Twiggs and the late Helen Collins Twiggs.
Stephanie had lived in her beloved Choestoe
Community
for the past three years. She was an avid bridge player and longtime
Life
Master. She loved cooking, sewing and most of all she loved her family.
Stephanie was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas J. Stephens in
1994,
son, Thomas J. Stephens Jr. in 1995 and a grandson, Mark Stephens. Mrs.
Stephens was a member of Kerns Methodist Church in Oak Ridge.
Surviving
Mrs. Stephens
are one son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Mary R. Stephens of
Blairsville, five
grandchildren, Stephanie Lorraine Stephens of NC, Stacie Stephens of
SC, Daniel
Walcott of TN, Cheryl Waddell and Eric Waddell of SC, numerous great
grandchildren, many other relatives and friends also survive.
Graveside
services were
held on Tuesday Feb. 14, 2012 at 2:30 p.m. from the Choestoe
Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Ken Zollinger
officiating. Family and friends served as pallbearers. She is resting
next to
her husband, Thomas. The family met with friends at the funeral home on
Tuesday
from 12-2:00 p.m.

James
H. Varnell, age 94, recently of
Blairsville, GA,
passed away February 9, 2012 following a short illness. Mr. Varnell
was born in Cahoun, TN and was the son of
the late
Guy and Olive Eledge Varnell.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Iva Williamson Varnell, originally of Knoxville, TN: and a
sister, Evelyn
Rutledge of Cleveland, TN.
A
raconteur, he enjoyed golf, crossword puzzles and reading. He had a
long career
in business management, retiring from the State of Florida Department
of
Health. He was a veteran of the Navy and was a member of several
Masonic
orders.
Survivors
include his sons and daughters-in-law, James H. Varnell,
M.D. (Linda Smartt) of Blairsville, and
William G. Varnell (Mary Knasas) of Boston,
MA. He had four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Memorial
service and interment will be held at a later date at the Hodges
Boulevard
Presbyterian Church in Jacksonville, FL.

Mrs.
Lucy Annette Ashworth, age 95, of Blairsville, GA passed away,
Wednesday,
February 7, 2012 at Chatuge Regional
Nursing Home in
Hiawassee, GA. Annette was born in Gwinnette
County
March 22, 1916 to the late Elmon and Anna
Bell Green.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Dewey, M.J. and Edwin
Green and
two sisters, Louise Moon and Lucile Green and her husband of 66 years, Lagrand Ashworth.
She
enjoyed life to the fullest and had many hobbies, including sewing, hat
making,
upholstery, ceramics and cake decorating. She painted two pictures at
age 93 at
the Senior Center in Blairsville, Her passion was bingo, flower
gardening,
shopping and traveling. She enjoyed many years of camping at Land Yacht
Harbor
in Melborne, FL and Venture Out in Panama
City, FL.
She
worked in the accounting department of Cotton Producers in Atlanta, then followed in her father’s footsteps as a home
builder.
She
attended Coosa United Methodist Church in Blairsville.
Annette
is survived by two daughters and two sons-in-law, Patricia and Charles
Nash and
Brenda and Mike Dailey, six grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren,
a number
of nieces and nephews, one brother, H.B. Green, two sisters-in-law, Runette and Larry Saltee
and Clydene and Maynard Nalley.
Graveside
services were held at 11 a.m., Saturday, February 11, 2012 at
Snellville
Historical Cemetery with Dr. Phillip Meeks officiating.

Marie
Golden Thomas, age 83 of Blairsville, passed away February 11, 2012, at
Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville, surrounded by the love
of her
family. She was born May 3, 1928, in McMinn County, TN, to the late
Gordon
Richard and Laura Abernathy Golden. She loved to travel with her
family, was
active in the community, serving as a hospital volunteer for many
years, and
was also a member of the First Baptist Church of Blairsville and the
Order of
Eastern Star. She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Oliver
Thomas,
on June 14, 1982, and later by her eldest brother, Ralph Golden.
Survivors
include: daughter and son-in-law, Sheila and Bruce Chapman of
Blairsville; son
and daughter-in-law, Nelson and Shelley Thomas of Blairsville;
daughter, Dianne
Thomas of Gainesville; grandchildren, Jennifer Chapman, John Chapman,
Patrick
Thomas, Caroline Thomas, Vincent Thomas, and Matthew Thomas; sisters,
Ann
Brewer and Bertha Nari; brother and
sister-in-law,
J.M. and Elaine Golden; sister-in-law, Hazel Cole; sister-in-law and
brother-in-law, Evelyn and Ernie Yana; brother-in-law and
sister-in-law, Ulas and Sheila Thomas;
sisters-in-law, Dorothy Thomas and
Wilma Thomas. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive, along with many
dear
friends and "adopted" grandchildren who Marie considered part of her
family, particularly Melinda Pickelsimer,
the long
time girlfriend of her grandson, Matthew.
Funeral
services were held on Monday, February 13, 2012, at 2 p.m. at the Rock
Chapel
of First Baptist Church of Blairsville with the Rev. B.A. Buchanan and
Rev.
Danny Parris officiating. Music was by Marilyn Burk and Wayde
Powell. Interment followed in Union Memory Gardens. Pallbearers
included John
Chapman, Patrick Thomas, Matthew Thomas, Vincent Thomas, Wayde
Powell, and David Buchanan.
The
family received friends at the Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville,
Sunday,
February 12, 2012, from 5 p.m. - 8 p.m.

Mrs.
Marjorie Phyllis Moon, age 73, of Warnock Mtn. Acres, Blairsville, GA,
formerly
of Plantation, FL, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 5, 2012 at her home
following an
extended illness. Mrs. Moon was born on March 17, 1938 in Chicago, IL,
the
daughter of the late Harry Shoemaker and the late Phyllis Jennings
Shoemaker.
Mrs. Moon enjoyed beading, making necklaces and bracelets in her spare
time.
She had always loved animals and had volunteered at the Wildlife care
Center in
Ft. Lauderdale, Fl for over seventeen years. Marjorie was a loving
wife, mother
and grandmother and was a friend to many. Mrs. Moon was a member of the
First
United Methodist Church of Union County.
Surviving
Mrs. Moon are her loving husband of twenty-seven years, John Moon of
Blairsville, one daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Robert Cline of
Pompano
Beach, FL, one son, Ross Thompson of Pompano Beach, three
grandchildren, Ashley
Cline, Amy Cline and Ross Thompson Jr., many other relatives and
friends also
survive.
No
services are planned at this time. In lieu of flowers if you wish, the
family
requests that memorials may be made to Regency Hospice of Hiawassee or
to the
Union County Humane Society in memory of Mrs. Moon.
