mr. irvin walter “l.w.” harper

Mr. Irwin Walter “I.W.” Harper, age 82, of Blairsville, GA went to be with the Lord Tuesday, February 8, 2005 in Blairsville following a brief illness.   Mr. Harper was born Wednesday, July 26, 1922 in Claxton, GA to the late Charlie Harper and the late Lorena Rogers Harper.  He was a WWII Marine Veteran having served in Pacific Theatre, he retired from Allied Chemical Company in Brunswick, GA.  He was a member of the Blairsville First Baptist Church, an Ordained Deacon and a member of the Joy Sunday School Class.  Mr. Harper was a loving father and husband who loved his home in the mountains for the past 20 years.  Before moving to Blairsville, he lived and worked in Brunswick where he had been a member of the Brunswick First Baptist Church.

Survivors include, his wife of 56 years, Eloise Ray Harper of Blairsville, GA; son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth T. and Bobby Harper of Brunswick, GA; 2 daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy Nan and Larry Roberson of Cleveland, GA and Karen Eloise and Robert Hall of Hortense, GA; sister, Iris Diehl of Warren, MI; 3 brothers, Earnest Harper of Hazelhurst, GA, Ronald Harper of Waynesville, GA and Gady Harper of Paris, TX; step-brother, Herman M. Towle of Savannah, GA; stepsister, Myrtle Drury of Brunswick, GA; 3 granddaughters, Ann Cottle of Montrose, GA, Leah Brook Harper of Brunswick, GA and Jennifer Robertson Swain of Cleveland, GA; 3 grandsons, Robert Walter Hall of Hortense, GA, Jeff Roberson of Huntsville, TX, Robert Leslie Hall of Hortense, GA; 3 great-grandchildren, Jacob Cottle, Averi Robrson and Logan Swain; many nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Funeral services were held Friday, February 11, 2005 at 11 a.m. from the chapel of the Cochran Funeral Home in Blairsville with Rev. Danny Parris, and Rev. Mike Hardy officiating.  Special music was presented by Minister Terry Hooper.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Robert Walter Hall, Jeff Roberson, Les Hall, Kevin Swain, Rick Lawrence, Henry Cottle, III, and Mike Wilcox.  The following gentlemen served as honorary escort to the family: Joe Blackstock, Dr. James Heaton, Ralph Jones, Charles Stewart, James Hooper, Dave Schugar, and members of the Joy Sunday School Class.  Graveside services followed in the Brunswick Memorial park Cemetery on Saturday, February 12, 2005 at 12 noon with a visitation at Brunswick memorial Park Chapel from 11 until 12.
