mr. frank e. colwell

 

Mr. Frank E. Colwell, age 92, of Blairsville, passed away Wednesday morning, February 12, 2003 in Union County Nursing Home.

Mr. Colwell was born in Union Count, Saturday, December 24, 1910, a son of the late Luther T. and Iva (Morgan) Colwell.  He owned and operated the Farmers Supply Company for over 50 years.  Mr. Colwell was a member of the First Baptist Church of Blairsville.  He was preceded in death by his wife Eula Addington Colwell.

Survivors include: is son and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Barbara Colwell of Blairsville, GA; brother, Horace Colwell of Blairsville, GA; grandchildren, Leah and Greg Adams and Leslie and Robert Daniel all of Blairsville, GA; great grandchildren, Parker and Coleson Daniel of Blairsville, GA.

Funeral services were held Thursday evening February 13, 2003 at 7 p.m. at the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home with Rev. Danny Parris and Rev. B.A. Buchanan officiating.  Music was by Nelson and Mildred LeCroy.  Interment was in Union Memory gardens.

mrs. carla diane vanburen

 

Mrs. Carla Diane VanBuren, age 44, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Friday, Febuary 14, 2003, at her home, following an extended illness.

Mrs. VanBuren was born in Herkimer Little Falls, New York, on Wednesday, September 17, 1958.  She had been living in Blairsville since 1996, coming here from Pompano Beach, Florida.  In Florida, she worked with The American Lung Association of South Florida for fourteen years.  Mrs. VanBuren was a member of Providence United Methodist Church, and worked with John C. Campbell Folk School in Brasstown, North Carolina.  Mrs. VanBuren was preceded in death by her father, Ray Presley; a sister, Janet Presley; and her father-in-law, Tracy Henry VanBuren, Jr.

Surviving are her husband, Scott VanBuren, of Blairsville; son, Shawn Ross VanBuren and daughter, Alexandra Dawn VanBuren, both of Blairsville; mother, Madeline Starlin, of Herkimer, NY; mother-in-law, Beverly VanBuren of Viera, FL and Blairsville; sisters, Marjorie Adam of Manasas, Val Joyce Pritchard, of Oswego, NY; Sandy Lujan, Of Columbus, GA; Terry Luckau, of Utah; Jennifer Borges, of Stevens Point, EI; brothers, Ray Presley, of Ft. Dodge, Iowa; Mike Presley, of Chickasaw, OK; Edward Presley, of Wisconsin Rapids, WI; Paul Presley, of Kingston, PA; Joseph Presley, of Fall River, MA; sister-in-law, Sherry Anth, of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; brother-in-law, James Henry VanBuren, of Grand Rapids, MI; several nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.

Memorial services will be held Wednesday, February 19, 2003, at 7:30 p.m. from Providence United Methodist Church in Blairsville, with Rev. Charles Gillespie officiating.

IF you wish, the family has suggested memorials be made to The American Lung Association of South Florida, 2020 South Andrews Ave., Ft. Lauderdale, FL 33316.

mrs. margie mae beavers raper

 

Mrs. Margie Mae Beavers Raper, age 70, of Loving Rd., Morganton, GA, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2002 in the Murphy Medical Center following an extended illness.  Mrs. Raper was born on may 10, 1932 in Union County, the daughter of the late Ernest Beavers and the late Vestie Thomas Beavers.  She was a native and life long resident of Union County.  She was preceded in death by two sisters: Hazel Hughes and Eva Lee Garmon; and by three brothers: Tasker Beavers, Albert Beavers, and Robert Beavers.  Mrs. Raper was a member of the Zion Hill Baptist Church.

Surviving Mrs. Raper are her loving husband of fifty two years, James (Jim) Raper of Morganton; three daughters and son in laws:  Elizabeth and Kenneth Beavers of Acworth, Judy Raper and Johnny Mason of Brasstown, NC, Sandra and Randall Sneed of Murphy, NC; one half sister, Jean Davenport of Morganton; two half brothers, Lawrence Beavers of Morganton and Don Beavers of Blairsville; four grandchildren, Steven Towe, Tracy Wintermute, Misty Havard and Marian Beavers; two great grandchildren, Dakota Havard and Olivia Towe, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, Dec. 5, 2002 at 2:00 PM from the Zion Hill Baptist Church with the Rev. Ray Harper, Rev. Jerry Rice and Rev. Danny Patterson officiating.  Special music was presented by Rev. Luther Thomas.  The following served as pallbearers, Misty Havard, Tracy Wintermute, Steven Towe, Eddie Beaver, Robert Havard, Johnny Patterson, David Patterson and John Mason III.  Interment followed in the church cemetery.

mr. albert stanley edwards

 

Mr. Albert Stanley Edwards, age 90 of Mockingbird lane, Blairsville, passed away on Sunday, February 16, 2003 at his home following a brief illness.

Mr. Edwards was born on September 18, 1912 in Bell Buckle, TN, the son of the late Prentice Albert Edwards and the late Vera Zelma Stevenson Edwards.  He was a Veteran of the US Navy in WWII.  He was a retired pipe fitter and was a member of the local Pipe Fitters Union #725.  Mr. Edwards was a member of the Blairsville Church of God.

Surviving Mr. Edwards are his loving wife of seventy years, Annabelle Wilder Edwards of Blairsville; son and his fiancée, David Edwards and Louise Stennes of Blairsville; on daughter and son-in-law, Mitzie and Jack Baker of Albany, GA; two sisters, Bobby Faye wells and Clarice Crownover both of TN, five grandchildren, Debbie Gannon, jack Baker Jr., George Baker, David Edwards Jr., and Michelle Edwards, nine great grandchildren, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, February 19, 2003 at 10a.m. from the Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Michael Morrison officiating.  The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: David Edwards Sr., Jack Baker Sr., David Edwards Jr., Jack BAKER Jr., George Baker and Jack Hall.  Interment and graveside services were held at 4 p.m. from the Rutledge Hills Cemetery in Manchester, TN.
