Mrs.
Bessie
Hood Winn, age 85, of Chatuge Regional Nursing Home in Hiawassee,
formerly of Blairsville,
passed away Thursday, February 13, 1997 in Chatuge Regional.
Mrs. Winn
was born in Union County, Georgia, on September
28, 1911, a daughter of the late Jim Hood and Ollie Saxon Hood. She was a homemaker and a
lifelong resident of this area. Mrs. Winn was a member of Union Baptist
church and was preceded in death by her husband, Hillyer Winn, in 1990.
Surviving
are son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth and Shirley Winn, of Flowery
Branch, GA.;
and granddaughter, Leana Gayle Winn, also of Flowery branch; sisters, Pauline Berry
of Gainesville, Clara Jane Burnett of Suches, and bertha McClaine of
Toccoa,
GA.; brothers, Eugene Hood of Blairsville, George Hood of Cleveland,
GA., Byron and Homer Hood, both of
Blairsville;
several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral
services were held Saturday, February 15, 1997 at 2 p.m. from the
chapel of
Cochran Funeral Home with Rev. Harley Hunter officiating.
Special music was presented by Trackrock
Quartet and Leana Winn. The following
gentlemen served as pallbearers: Kenny
Spiva, Eddy Hood, Calvin Hood, Eddy Hood, Anthony Coker and Jimmy Hood.
Interment was in Union Baptist Church
Cemetery.

Mr. John
Ralph Conley, Jr., age 72, of Hayesville, N.C. died Sunday, February
16, 1997
in Murphy, N.C. hospital.
He was a
native of Union County, GA. He was a U.S.
Navy World War II Veteran. He was a
self0employed construction worker
and enjoyed reading and gardening. He
was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Blairsville, GA. He was the son of the late John Ralph and
Estella Rich Conley, Sr. and was preceded in death by his wife, Beulah
Mae
Parker Conley.
He is
survived by two sons, Bo Conley of Blairsville, GA.
and Terry Conley of Marietta, GA.; two daughters, Peggy Foss of
Austell, GA.
and Tricia Hogsed of Hayesville, N.C.; two brothers, Charles Conley and
Jim
Conley, both of Blairsville, GA.; two sisters, Sara Nell Patterson of
Blairsville,
and Frances Harrison of Fitzgerald, GA.; nine grandchildren and five
great-grandchildren.
Funeral
services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, February 18, 1997 at the Townson
Rose,
Frank Rose, Sr. memorial Chapel in Hayesville, N.C.
The Rev. Steve Bettis officiated. Burial
was held in the Union Hill
Cemetery. Pallbearers were Gary Canup,
Craig Christensen, Larry Hanes, Jimmy Murray, David Conley and Larry
Conley.

Mr.
Oliver
Edward Maier, age 72, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Monday,
February 10,
1997 in Fannin Regional Hospital in Blue Ridge, GA.
Mr. Maier
was born February 13, 1924 in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania,
a son of the late Oliver Edward Maier, Sr., and Norma Laura Crusan
Maier. He was a World War II veteran of
the U.S.
Army. Mr. Maier had been living in this
area since 1982, coming her (sic) from
Orlando,
Florida.
Surviving
are his wife, Kay Maier of Blairsville; son, Larry Maier, of Austin,
TX,; son,
Richard Maier of Blairsville, GA; sisters, Jean McMillan and Edith
McCormick,
both of Evans City, PA.; Norma Glass, Gail Howell, and Marjorie
Roberts, all of
Mars, PA.; brothers, Howard Maier, of Mars, PA. and
Arthur Maier of Crown Point, Indiana; five grandchildren also survive:
Jason,
Jesse, Erika, Audra Maier, all of Blairsville, and Ansley Donovan of
Austin,
Texas.

Mrs.
Northa
Dyer Collins, age 99, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Thursday,
February
6, 1997 , in Union General Hospital in
Blairsville.
Mrs.
Collins was born in Union County, Georgia on July 13,
1897, a daughter of the late Bluford E. Dyer and Sarah Souther Dyer. She was a lifelong resident of Union County
and was a homemaker. Mrs. Collins had
been a member of Choestoe Baptist Church since 1912, and was a charter
member
of the Choestoe Baptist Women’s Missionary Union, which was organized
in 1929. She was preceded in death by her
husband,
William Harve Collins, who died in 1977, and fourteen brothers and
sisters.
Surviving
are daughters, Wilonell Dyer and Alda Marie Knight, both of
Blairsville, GA.;
son, William Clyde Collins of Blairsville; thirteen grandchildren,
thirty two
great grandchildren, and three great great grandchildren also survive.
Funeral
services were held Saturday, February 8, 1997 at 2 p.m. from Choestoe
Baptist
Church with Rev. James Geer, Rev. Grover Jones, and Rev. Bill Gowder
officiating.
The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Jerry Dyer, Larry Dyer,
Bill
Collins, Carlton Collins, Lee Knight, and Jeff Knight.
Interment was in Choestoe Cemetery. If
you wish to make contributions in lieu of
flowers, the family respectfully requests memorials be
made to the Northa Collins Fund for Choestoe Baptist Church. Cochran
